The food used to be good but this time it was over done. I ordered the shrimp gnocchi in red sauce and it was smothered in red sauce that was so spicy I could not taste the gnocchi. My husband ordered beef tenderloin medallions in a lobster risotto and it was too creamy and soupy and way too much. We had mussels for the appetizer and it came layered in sausage. Again just over done. Sorry. I used to enjoy this restaurant but they need to step it up.

Whenever I come to Helena this is my goto restaurant.. lunch or dinner. I’m sure they have their off nights but over the years I have not had a poor meal. Most of the servers have been there a long time .. my bar tender 12 years .. says something! The chefs come and go but they all know food prep. Last trip I had mussels at the bar beautifully presented! Prior night I had bacon wrapped baseball cut steak served on the best asparagus ever .. thank you! It’s an upscale crowd .. the baseball cappers don’t fit. The background music allows for conversation and the decor and seating is relaxing. The pricing is spot on. They take a reservation.

They may be the only good restaurant open in Helena on Mondays. The place bustles and is packed and you had better have a reservation. The service is great, swift and accommodating. They say they have had staffing issues, but they must have held onto the very best wait staff. The onion rings are delicious, the beer is great, there is a great selection, the steak is very special, and you really cannot get a better meal. I have only one caveat. The portions are huge. We could not finish our meal or our appetizer. Bring your appetite.

Darn! The food was terrible!

The atmosphere is beautiful! The bar tender and hostess wonderful!! The waiter was not very friendly and the food was a huge disappointment for this foodie. The $11 Cabernet (wine) was wonderful, but the crab cake was tasteless. The baked Brie was good but very small. The spicy shrimp gnocchi was terrible! The smoked salmon pasta was dry and flavorless. The shrimp Alfredo was jus OK. The bread was pretty good. The basic “included” house salad was plain Jane from a bag and your only choice of dressing was ranch. The dessert we had to beg to hear about was incredible, but boy did the waiter try to talk us out of it. So strange. If I have another 2 1/2 hours to dine and spend money it will not be here. Sad.

Mediocre Fare at an Exorbitant Price! Environment: Very nice, warm and comfortable, not too fancy or over done. (Bar stools are too tall which crams legs into the underside of bar) Service: Front desk was very friendly, beyond that, staff did not seem well informed about the food or beverages and more interested in visiting amongst themselves than tending to the customer. Food: (Apparently there is a happy hour menu, but, not provided) I considered one of the "Best Steaks in Montana" ($58), Duck or Fish ($40) and finally chose "Spicy Shrimp Pomodoro" ($30). As indicated, was spicy to my liking. This included: SMALL green salad (no dressing choice offered), small loaf of bread and butter, and a large dinner bowl of the entrée. The Entrée: Served in a large dinner bowl, was nicely sauced bowl full of gnocchi (about 2 pounds), it included 5 average size shrimp (21/25 = 3-4 ounces), garnished with a little shaved parmesan cheese and crumbled dry bay leaf that was not soft fresh green garnish, so spat out. The portion of protein : starch was about 1:8 (way out of proportion). This dish should be called "Spicy Gnocchi Pomodoro with a Little Bit of Shrimp Garnish" (and use parsley or some fresh green for color, not dry bay leaf). Apparently there is not "chef" in the kitchen... and I was there to dine, not to work. Next time I will choose the Ramen Restaurant directly across, and will certainly be more satisfied.

Very good service. Restaurant was not too busy. Ordered a New York on special and should have gone with my gut. Was very tough. Ribeye probably a better choice. Wife had the Bison Wellington and the pastry was under cooked and Bison was very tough. Dessert of creme brûlée was a weak representation. All in all, disappointing. Would go back to see if able to improve.

Service was great; food not so great. We had a large group, we ordered a few appetizers for the table which were delicious. Drinks were amazing! Main course was average. The potatoes I do not recommend getting steak was cooked to order and average flavor. It was too pricey for the taste I think. If I ever I go back I’ll just get an appetizer and drink. Not impressed with my meal tho.

The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting and quiet. The food is excellent. We ordered the filet mignon. The price was $52 each. The steaks run in the $50+ range. The menu does provide more pocket book friendly choices including hamburgers, other sandwiches, salads, fish and chips, etc.

Great Business Lunch

My client recommended the Silver Star Steak Company as one of the best restaurants in town. I enjoyed the tenderloin bruschetta, which was perfectly cooked. Although, they were out of lemon layer cake, I defaulted to my usual favorite chocolate mousse layer cake. It was a winner. I will definitely visit the restaurant again when I’m in Helena.

Great service and food!

My wife and I went there for dinner, we arrived very early but they were able to get us seated quickly without any issues. Or server was very polite and attentive, she checked on us regularly to make sure all was good. The food was delivered very quickly and was cooked to perfection. However, the only reason I gave the food four stars was, the steak was slightly under seasoned, I would recommend stepping up the seasoning not only because of my personal preference but because I see other reviews with the same comment of the steak being under seasoned. As a bonus, our waitress was German, which my wife is too so they had a good conversation and laugh.

Don’t miss out on this place!

AMAZING!! Wonderful service.. the waitress was extremely well versed in the menu, provided excellent suggestions, and was so attentive to us. The food... OMG, talk about good. We tried the bacon wrapped sirloin and it was AMAZING. I’m usually a ribeye girl but this steak was amazing. They complimented it with some delicious broccoli, home made mashed potatoes, and these fantastic bourbon shrimp. We finished off with the berry tiramisu and it was to die for! I can’t say enough good about this restaurant. If you are in Helena looking for a wonderful experience with outstanding service, excellent food, and a great atmosphere... this is your place. It was priced typical caliber for this restaurant. Great apps, and the wine menu was extensive. I can’t wait to return!

So much potential, such poor execution

We had high hopes for the dinner. It started off badly when our server got the cocktails wrong – they came on the rocks, not up. They had to be remade. The mussels were great, but it took forever for them to arrive. Same with the salads. Crips and fresh, but the wait between courses was excessive. We spoke to the manager and he promised us that service would improve. It did not. Long wait for the steaks – the ribeye and fillet. Both were average. This restaurant has nice décor, an interesting menu, and a great location. It was too bad what could have been a nice evening was spoiled by a brain dead server.

Silver Star Steak is my favorite Helena restaurant for dinner! Hadn't been there in 5 years (as I no longer travel there on business) when a friend and I traveled to Helena and had dinner on a Sunday evening in March 2020. Their menu is quite diverse, but once we heard that the special was prime rib and other awesomeness, we went for that--he for the large cut and I for the smaller. Everything was perfect, including the service AND the glass of wine I enjoyed. What a great touch to have so many wines available by the glass! Now I need to dream up a new reason to drive over to the capitol city!

Best dining experience in Helena, MT!

BEST steak I’ve had in YEARS! Silver City Steak in Helena, MT I took the family & kids (age 5-10yrs), and there was something for everyone’s tastes. I had the bison steak, very rare; with root mash veggies; DELICIOUSNESS!! Great atmosphere, & Fair prices for amazing food and service. Our server, Ashton, he was the best!

Best 2 meals ever

We planned on dining at a few different places during our stay, but the food and service were so good here, we just kept going back. Their filet mignon was perfect, as was their whiskey beef strips. And their asparagus, green beans, mashed potatoes-SO SO SO good and well prepared. It was a memorable place, for sure!
