Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fun, authentic place with good food and fun local decor. Lots of locals. Food was excellent, the onion rings we shared were the best we ever had.

It’s a dive bar, but it’s a classic dive bar that you have to go to if you are in the area. If you are in the area, you are likely just passing through. The beer is ok, the service at the tables is friendly...but slow (sit at the very small bar if you can), the food is pub fare average, and the “casino room” (a few slot machines) is lame, BUT, this place have been around for over 100 years and you have to come here for a beer!! The wall decor is awesome. Who doesn’t like mounted animal heads and guns! Giddy up! VictorBMore

The old Saloon is very old, and you can appreciate that inside the rustic dining room. But the food is contemporary, and quite delicious. Service was good too. We'd definitely return here next time we're in the area.

Rated my ribeye steak as ‘acceptable’ but I’m a hard critic! The steak was ordered medium-rare and cooked to perfection. However, I was hoping for that chargrilled taste marrying that steak cooked to perfection. Salad and loaded baked potato was good. Service was okay. Overall,...a nice meal in Emmigrant, MT, to avoid crowded dining in Gardiner before entering Yellowstone’s north entrance.More

visiting on a trip with my friends and we stopped in because this place had great reviews. not really sure where that came from though. 2 of our meals were awful and we sent them back, only to hear the cooks LOUDLY insulting us through...the open window. our server was amazing and so sweet but she acted like this was a regular occurrence. Asked another table near us and they agreed about the food being horrible. Hope they can bring in some new cooks soon because this place is too cute to be ruined by these guys.More

This is a MUST NOT MISS spot to have a drink, or two, and lunch on your way to or from Gardiner. They also have great concerts here in the summer!

So happy we made a last minute stop here. The ambiance is great and seemed to be a nice mix of locals and tourists. Not many places have chicken and dumplings on the menu so that was a bonus. Beautiful bar and a great place...to sit and visit!More

We enjoyed breakfast here so much we returned for dinner. Within our group we tried the French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, chicken fried steak and biscuits, and sausage. All were delicious. The coffee wasn’t the best, but overall we would definitely return. For dinner, my...husband and I shared the Elk meatloaf-a huge portion! It was delicious with the homemade mashed potatoes. We also had a salad with the Huckleberry vinaigrette dressing which was so yummy. My grandson loved the Mac and cheese. The service was great, the decor was very well done, and the cleanliness appreciated.More

We stopped her yesterday with high hopes for a nice birthday lunch for my husband, I wish we would have instead enjoyed the nice lodge we were at longer and at there. Not only were we not acknowledged by any of the three employees in...the restaurant in the entire 10 minutes we were there, the server who was doing her very best to avoid looking up and acknowledging us walked around the corner and we could see her eating her food. Totally fine to take a break but it is a general rule of customer service to acknowledge a table, get them their drinks, and then maybe you can go back to eating your lunch. Not impressed and I am sure they were happy we walked out so they didn't have to exert any energy on serving us. Very disappointing.More

We didn't see anything beckoning us in Gardiner upon exiting Yellowstone as far as dinner, and I knew we wouldn't be passing much on our route back to Bozeman. So it was with joy as we drove through the dark and deserted Paradise Valley that...we noted it was open. Not only open, but, probably due to its status as the only spot around, jumpin'. It's well over a hundred years old and while it gives off that vibe, the menu has definitely changed in a century. I didn't expect several of the menu items, which seemed like midtown Manhattan, not the middle of Montana. We stuck to what did seem cowboyesque - elk meatloaf (two giant slabs) and chicken fried steak. Homemade mashed potatoes, good gravies, decent soup (evidently broccoli and cheese soup is the state soup of Montana as it was the soup of choice in more than one joint, I noted). Hearty food and decent portions. Prices, well, typical of the area. Glad we stopped.More

This place was a pleasant surprise. We both had a delicious, Rueben sandwich (one with a very-nice salad and one with fries). It is like walking back in time there with their huge, original-type bar & mirror, taxidermy on the walls & wood floors! If...you want rustic and good food, this is the place to go. We will go back if we are in the area again.More
