The atmosphere is inviting. We had a delicious dinner. For the price it is not the best value in Bozeman but we were expecting high prices at this establishment. Service was slow taking 2 1/2 hours for dinner and dessert but we were there with great friends so no complaints about extra time to visit. Watch the extra items you order, it all adds up really fast. For us this would be a very special event outing.

Went here while in the area for work. The atmosphere is very nice and kept up well. Our waitstaff was pleasant enough when they came around, which wasn’t very often. The food was very expensive and if you order steak it’s just the steak. Everything else is a la carte. I ordered the 16oz ribeye and roasted carrots. Others in my group ordered the same and the cheeseburger with fries and Mac and cheese. My ribeye was very good, the only complaint is that it was about 1/4 of just fat, others in my group had the same issue. The cheeseburger was delicious. The roasted carrots were awful, and most were burnt. The French fries were so over salted that it nearly made you gag to eat them. Overall, I’d say give them a shot but just be prepared to send your food back if it’s not done properly. The cost is way too high for what the quality they are putting out.

My wife and I visited Bozeman on my birthday, May 21 of this year flying in to an early summer snow storm and complete white-out. We had been referred to Open Range from several local fly fishing guides as a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We really enjoyed the warm ambiance of Open Range, especially with it snowing outside. The meal prepared by Chef Bobby along with the excellent service provided by Danielle and staff was all world. The chef prepared special appetizers in an assortment of creative small plates that were delicious and complimentary to our meal. The tempura shrimp was terrific as was a special plate with cucumber and plum accents. I was surprised that OR had my favorite Fruh Kolsch beer! My wife enjoyed a lemon drop. The Llama malbec paired with our meal by Danielle was perfect. Simple things like bread, butter (best we have had!!) and salad became adventures in dining with unique flavors and presentation. The vegetables served with our entrees were delicious! We especially enjoyed the beef tenderloin with bearnaise sauce. We loved the small plate approach this restaurant uses - healthier and in my experience, allows you to savor more dishes and flavors. Bobby has roots at the famous Zingerman's Restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI and his attention to detail was amazing. Danielle personally checked on us multiple times to ensure our experience was nothing short of exceptional. It was Denver's loss when this super culinary couple moved north to Bozeman. Danielle even provided insight and guidance to a great restaurant in Livingstone owned by their friends that we enjoyed over the weekend. We wrapped up our meal by trying ALL the desserts - Gold Apricot, Creme Brulee strawberry short cake and black plum lavender fluff, red verjus. We look forward to another visit to Bozeman and Open Range soon. If you have a special occasion, I cannot recommend a better place to celebrate it. Prices are very reasonable as well.

I've been twice, once on a weeknight, once on a weekend, both not good experiences. First was a Tuesday night, I ordered the vegetable pasta, it came over an hour later, the pasta was a tiny portion, 4 to 5 bites and was very rubbery, the waitress asked how our food was and I was honest, she said she had the same complaint that night. 2nd visit was a Saturday night and it was my friend's birthday, we ordered drinks, appetizers and then entrees. When they delivered the appetizers the wait staff pushed the board on the table which then pushed and knocked over a drink on the table and our laps. I ordered the beet salad which was in the list of entre salads. My friend ordered the wedge salad with chicken. His came first which was a decent size and then mine finally came. I thought she brought me a side salad, and I ordered it as an entree, I asked the waitress and she said that's the normal size it comes it was literally 3 small bites, it was 3 small pieces of beets, an 1/8th cup arugula, 3 tiny slivers of grapefruit and 2 baby dollops of soft cheese under. If I had known it was that small, I would have ordered something else. My other friend ordered the filet and he doesn't normally complain but he said it was the worst filet he's ever had, it tasted like grilled fish...so he sent it back and got a different one which was better. Overall my experience there has not been good, very overpriced for what you get, portion sizes are small and wait time for food is long. Will not be returning.

Although the food and ambiance were good, our time at Open Range was so disappointing. Our waiter was unfriendly, bordering on rude. Having eaten at Open Range before we knew the food could be pricey, but charging $21 for a Manhatten cocktail was ridiculous. Lastly, when we asked our server if there was a cupcake or something to celebrate our guest’s birthday the waiter said simply “no”. A few minutes later woman at a table near us was served a dessert with a candle on it - so bizarre! We will not be back.

Being in Montana, compelled us to seek out a nice steak dinner and we landed at Open Range. The dining room is nice, floor tables spread out which I appreciated. We had a reservation (not sure if you need one) and were promptly seated upon our arrival. They had some interesting craft cocktails on the menu, so we started with that. Mark's Old Fashioned & a Party Dress. Both very tasty. They kept our water glasses full which I am very fond of! We split a Caesar salad and both ordered the Waygu sirloin. My friend got hers Diane style, I did the Whiskey Onions and Horseradish. We also ordered the bread service for $6 (skip it, not worth paying the $ for 5 small pieces of unmemorable carbs). The salad was very good, the steaks juicy and delicious. They came with fingerling potatoes (meh, maybe upgrade to one of the other starches?) and carrots. We loved the photo's of all the local Bozeman dogs on the all, like really loved it since we are dog obsessed. Our service was very good and friendly as well.

We don't live in Bozeman but visit fairly often so we tend to rely heavily on reviews on new spots when choosing a restaurant. I struggle to see what other reviews have seen in this restaurant. It is spacious on the airplane hanger scale with all of the noise one would expect in street market and absolutely no atmosphere whatsoever. The food is plentiful - that is the only plus that I can think of - it is poorly prepared, sloppily served and very expensive.

Really expensive but a great meal. Our son wanted a steak dinner for his birthday while we were in town and we chose Open Range. We knew the prices going in, so there was no sticker shock. We ordered a rib eye, bison strip, tenderloin, and maybe the best piece of meat I’ve ever had, a wagyu coulette. All great. Sides were good and our waiter was very attentive. Complimentary dessert for our son’s birthday was a nice touch.

Second time here. Last year it was very quiet and spaced out so enjoyed a more lively vibe. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and he provided a description of the Osso bucco that proved worthy. It was delicious! We also ordered a filet and potatoes which was also just right. The salads were a good start, complemented by drinks, a Piedmontese Barbera and a “strawberry shortcake” creme brûlée. Not cheap, but everything came out with a nice pace and attentive but not invasive service.

Another amazing restaurant in Bozeman which is hard to believe that such a small town can have this many eateries at such a high level of quality and service. Open Range has it all. Right on Main Street, great design, a brilliant composed plate and a la carte menu, and A/C!

Our waitress, the elderly lady, was SO RUDE, and literally threw our food at us. Then my son's steak was over cooked so she grabbed it angrily and sent it back. Then the manager came over and we showed him my burnt hamburger bun and overcooked hamburger and he didn't even offer to replace it!!! He did comp the meals though, it was that BAD! And they were out of everything we came for! No Rib Eye, no Bone Marrow and this is supposed to be the best meat restaurant in Bozeman? I think not! We will not be back here, ever!!! And the manager had an attitude at the end too when we ordered a dessert. Bad food, bad service, bad attitude. We figured they just hate tourists.

Even though Open Range (OR) is a superb restaurant in all respects, you shouldn’t go if you’re not prepared to pay $70 minimum per person—and you can stop reading now. … … Okay, you’re still with me, and here’s the deal (as President Biden says): The food and drinks are uniformly excellent. Just yesterday, I had beef cheeks with mashed potatoes and blue cheese Brussels sprouts; I don’t know how it could have been better. My wife had pan seared cod—same verdict. Her wine and my cocktails —equally attractive and tasteful. Service has always been attentive, without overdoing it. The decor is, well, “open range,” with a large space, high ceiling, and plenty of personal space separating tables and booths. Is OR worth its high prices? For us, retirees with few financial obligations, yes. So, if you’re game, give it a shot (as we say in the West).

I was hoping for a memorable meal with my son whom I hadn't seen in many months. My ribeye came over cooked and my wife's ribeye was rare when she ordered med-well. They took her steak back and overcooked it on only one side so it came back to us shaped like a soup bowl! Denny's could have done a better job. The brocollini was seared but yet under cooked so it was like eating branches. Food was oversalted. They gave us $20 off my wife's $70 steak. Probably the worst dining experience we've had in years. An unremarkable place for a remarkable cost.

This place is all about the meats. We dined there as family of four and while upscale they had a good children's menu too. We had the bison rib special and it did not disappoint. If you are traveling through Bozeman and go to box is not an option, try splitting it. Plenty for two. My wife had filet mignon and it was perfectly tender. Would recommend trying the grilled Brussels sprouts with it. Our daughter approved of the mac and cheese (and she's a connoisseur!). The smoked pork belly and jumbo shrimp were both great starters. Dessert was nothing to write home about. We tried huckleberry cheesecake. Filling was ok, the crust was (too) dry and the berry more like a reduction on the plate. The place is one the pricier side, but you will not be disappointed by the steaks.
