I am always excited to discover hidden gems where the locals hang out. Chili Mac's is that type of place and it did not disappoint. An OLD diner to be sure, this place is a throwback to days gone by. Old formica tables and kitchen chairs fill the small cafe. The place was abuzz with a LOT of people. The server at the front welcomed everone in. The quarters are tight so if its busy, you might dine next to a new friend. No worries. It appears that everyone is friends here. The food is simple, but plentiful and good. I ordered the Slinger, which I can only describe as the St. Louis version of Hawaii's Loco Moco. Two hamburger patties with cheese, one fried egg, and home fries all smothered in delicious chili and topped with cheese and onions with a side of toast. All of this for around $8.00. My wife ordered the special, which was a 4 oz ribeye steak sandwich with fries for $8.95. Everything was delicious and filling. The best part of this place, though, is the service. Everyone is so friendly and even though they were extremely busy, we were checked on often. I LOVE Chili Mac's. So glad we found this place during our 5 hours in St. Louis.

Walking through Downtown St. Louis is a post-apocalyptic experience these days. It's totally abandoned. This treasure of a diner is perhaps one of the only remaining vestiges of the bygone days of a real industrious area. The food is dead-on diner experience - from taste, to ambiance, to clientele, to staff to menu pricing. If you have the misfortune of finding yourself in downtown St. Louis, brighten your experience by stopping here and reminding yourself of a time when Midwest America was great place to be.

Chili Mac’s Diner in downtown St. Louis offers a classic diner experience down to the charm of the boomerang countertops. It’s in such a prime time location across from The Met building. It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists looking for hearty diner food. The ambiance is nostalgic, cozy and unpretentious with a retro vibe that takes you back in time.
The menu has a variety of diner staples. The portions are generous, ensuring you leave full and satisfied. I got the omelet with jalapeños, cheese and onions. They’ve done this a few times and it shows.
Service at Chili Mac’s is friendly and efficient with waitstaff who make you feel right at home. Prices are cheap, making it a great value for the quality and quantity of food you receive.

We went here cause it looked like a unique experience and it was highly rated. It didn't disappoint on the first account. It's an old school diner. That feel was very awesome. There's an old box tv going with the local channel (a bit fuzzy). A few older ladies tend to the patrons. The decor is perfect. The service was okay. The food lacked alot to be desired. Throwing can chili on everything was not very enticing. Make sure you order the smaller sizes cause they heap a ton on there for a very cheap price.

After our Riverboat cruise, and a quick visit to the Arch Museum, we made our way to this delightful diner downtown.
Donna, our waitress, greeted us with a smile and gestured to a table in the back immediately. It was clear this was a local hang out.
Donna took our drink order and then our food order and never wrote anything down! WOW-that was impressive.
The food arrived quickly and due to our hunger disappeared just as quickly.
Our party of 5, which included a 4 year old, a 10 year old, and a 13 year old, were extremely happy with their cheeseburgers and hot dog. AND FRIES.
The restaurant was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent. We highly recommend this diner in downtown St. Louis.

12/3/21: We were visiting from Dallas, TX and our hotel front desk clerk recommended this diner, as it was within a very short walking distance. Donna was our server, and she was great! She treated us like she had known us forever, which made for a great dining experience. Wendy also was very friendly. She was cooking on the flat top and tending to the register. We felt very good vibes while we ate. The coffee was good and the food was fresh and hot. There's definitely an old school vibe here, and the ladies friendly interaction with customers and with each other was pretty refreshing. If we're ever back in town, we would certainly come back to have a meal.

We stayed at a hotel very close to the Arch in St. Louis and asked for a restaurant with a good breakfast. Chili Mac diner was recommended. It's like 2 blocks from the Arch. The diner is very well decorated and maintained, In a very diner decor. The menu has a good variety of breakfast options, as well as lunch options. The prices are excellent! Our first time, we each chose a breakfast of bacon (sausage for me) eggs, potatoes and toast! Excellent. On our second breakfast, yes, it's that good!!, I had the biscuits and gravy which was excellent!! But what made Chil Mac so exceptional was the staff!! They were personable, funny as heck, accommodating, and have a customer base of regulars that they know well, that they create an atmosphere that is very inviting!!! Can't recommend this restaurant enough!!

Had a late in the morning breakfast with my wife and two grown children. Delightful server, don’t remember her name, but see picture attached. Place is a throwback to yesteryear, and was well run. I believe the cooks name was Charlotte, and she knows how to cook some great breakfast food. My wife really enjoyed her French toast. I had a tamale and two hamburgers with chili, cheese and potatoes. Yum! Onions or a nice add.
Reasonable prices. And, not a chain, seemed like a locally owned place.

We stopped in for breakfast. The food was very good and filling. We wanted to go back the next morning, but a water main break had closed most of the local restaurants. Old fashion chairs and tables with formica tops with pastel colors. Nice people too. Very quaint!

Had breakfast here. It was just like having Mom cook for you. French Toast was made from Texas toast. I had bacon which was as perfect! Not too limp not too crispy. Hubby had the 2 eggs and bacon platter with “American fries “. Potatoes thinly sliced and cooked to order on the griddle.
Staff was warm and welcoming. Prices absurdity reasonable. Our bill was $12 total. A step back in time. And clean! These ladies are doing it right!

We went for breakfast before a day of playing tourists. Prices were very reasonable, service was good and food was good. We had pancakes and French toast. A tall stack was 3 thick pancakes about 6 inches round. They were very filling. My daughter had the French toast, she said it was was very good, 3 Texas toast slices. It’s a small place, so it felt a little cramped and of course, parking was a challenge.

We stayed in STL for the night, just passing through town, and we found this throw-back eatery near our hotel for breakfast before heading out back on the road.
The décor and atmosphere were from an earlier time but, make no bones about it, this place embodies what dining out out to be - simple yet delicious food and attentive, but not fawning service. The staff were hard-working and constantly in motion.
Highly recommended!

Great food and exceptional fast, kind and caring service. The original home of the Slinger, a local favorite, that once you try, you’ll be back for again. This nostalgic gem is in downtown St. Louis near the Arch and Old Courthouse as well as a short walk from Busch Stadium. There restaurant is in its 120th year operating since 1904. The three sisters work exceptionally well together and have a fun “attitude” that makes it special. Put it on your list of must visit places for breakfast or lunch next time you are in downtown St. Louis. Also a great place to stop before a daytime Cardinals game as you can have your entire lunch for probably less than a frosty cold one at the ballpark..and the food is better than what you’ll get there too!

What a gem to find in downtown St. Louis. An old fashioned diner with great atmosphere and food to match. We thoroughly enjoyed both our breakfasts here. Space is cramped, but the service is great and you will enjoy a true diner experience. If you are in downtown St. Louis near the Arch or Busch stadium seek this place out! There aren't many like it left.

This little downtown diner is a must visit. The staff is friendly and attentive. You'll get a scrumptious meal for a reasonable price. Definitely get the french toast. Some of the best I've ever eaten.
