Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ted Drewes has been known across the country for more years than I can remember, and our recent visit reaffirmed it deserves its reputation. Known for their "concretes" - something between a really thick milkshake and a "your choice ingredients" infused custard, their sundaes, straight custard, and other offerings are also top knotch and unique. If you are ever in an airport and see a Ted Drewes vending machine, do NOT judge the at-the-stand experience or product by the versions the machines spit out. They are still extraordinary, but not as good, or as fun, as getting a true concrete or other goodie at the stand itself.

A historic custard and concrete shop with hundreds of yummy options. Be prepared for a long wait - very well-organized and the line does move - but it is a unique and delicious experience for tourists and locals alike. Send one member of your party to get on line while the rest of your party looks for parking. Once you're on line, you can use the time to decide on what you want to order.

Ted Drewes has been selling frozen custard for over 80 years, and is hands-down, the best Custard in St Louis and as notable as historic Route 66! What started as a few stands has turned into a treat after visiting the Arch, the Fox and Muny Theaters, the St. Louis Zoo, and Cardinal’s baseball games. Now, you can get them to take home in the freezer case of most area Grocery Stores. But, best of all, it's become a tradition for us to grab some at Lambert Airport at one of their vending machines, like a last taste of St Louis before we fly away.

Stopped by here on our way to Grant’s Farm but in hindsight, we should have gone to the farm first. There was a line but it went quickly. There weren’t any seating inside and only a few benches so we stood on the other side of the building for shade until they told us to move so the line can wrap around. We ordered 2 regular custards and 3 regular shakes averaging $5 each. I had peach shake which came in a cup size container about 4 inches tall so not what you would expect like from McDonald’s. There were big chunks of peaches on the bottom which I didn’t expect for a shake. I think you’re better off going to Culver’s and you’ll get twice as much and for less than $5.

Visited here at the recommendation of several St. Louisans during a socially-distanced roadtrip with wife and pup. While still tasty, it felt way overhyped and was indistinguishable to your average DQ blizzard to me. Maybe caught them on a "bad night", but was underwhelmed by what felt like melty ice cream with some Reese's cups mixed in.

I was looking for pizza places that David Portnoy had tried in STL and noticed he also reviewed Ted Drewes. David gave it a 9.8 which is remarkably high if you’re aware of who he is. So, needless to say, that’s the only excuse I needed to try it on our recent family getaway.
Very friendly service from the gentleman who explained the flavors and about the awards they’d won. The custard is very smooth and rich, but not crazy sweet (which is the way it’s suppose to be.) The gentleman that took our order said it was voted Best Custard in the World by some group, so the bar was set pretty high (along with Portnoy’s 9.8.).
As for the custard, it was the best I’ve ever had. I got the one with the oatmeal cookie in it and the cookie was the not the bright spot of the dish. It was good, but just a thin, hard cookie. I’d much rather have tried something else, but the custard itself was great. I’ll definitely try Ted Drewes again, but it’ll be another flavor (of which they have dozens.) If you are a custard fan, you will love it. If you like value, you’ll love it even more as the prices are very reasonable. Overall, great experience.

The lines are long in the dog days of summer. However, they move quickly and its just part of the experience, The frozen custard is the best you will find anywhere, the chocolate sauce is outstanding. Its a part of St. Louis tradition

We arrived in the middle of a cool Sunday afternoon November 1, 2020. Even then, there was a line to order from the long list of inviting offerings of frozen flavors, added fruits, nuts and other treats. There are 4 sizes. Our "regular" (next to largest size) substituted for our dinner. Very yummy.
Before eating, the cup holding the concrete frozen custard flipped over by accident. Happily, the "concrete" name lived up to its reputation and the contents did not spill. Happy me.
Note that this is a building where the workers are inside and the customer orders and eats outside. Covid-19 restrictions are easily met here. Customers stand 6' apart.

I wanted to like this, but probably ordered poorly. I put two flavors into a cup much like I would for ice cream or gelato tastings.
Top one was too watery and bottom one, concrete, was just that.
I think you need to treat it like “Cold Stone Creamery” and custom order what you want added. Stood in long line and was pretty clueless.

This is a must stop on old Route 66 when visiting St. Louis! Marvel at the crowds that gather year round even in the dead of winter to sample frozen custard. Enjoy local flavors like the Cardinal Sin and the Muddy Mississippi. There is something just a little bit better about this frozen custard than any other I’ve ever tasted.

We get excited each year when they reopen. They are closed in winter except for selling Christmas trees. Hint, the Dolly trees are the nicest. Back to their frozen custard, it is delicious and can be combined with various fruits, nuts, and other toppings. My favorite is a sundae with raspberries and pistachios followed by the Dutchman's sundae (a local favorite). The custard can be eaten plain or combined into sundaes, shakes, blizzards, etc. They are already open in March. Don't miss this place.

When you want frozen custard, Ted Drewes is the place to go! They are known for their concretes which are similar to Dairy Queen’s blizzards but better! They do have many other choices as well if you don’t want a concrete. When you walk up, a store employee tells you which number window to go to order. It was very organized.

There were two very long lines, which moved fairly quickly. Right before you get to the counter, there is an employee telling you which window to go to. Custard was good, due to the hot weather the day we went, the custard was a little melty by the time it got to us. There is a gift shop on the other side of the parking lot, which does not allow food, so go there first.

We popped into Ted Drewes at the end of a road trip. It was very tasty and worth the detour. We both got "mini" sizes and honestly, between the two of us we probably couldn't have finished a single mini. It felt so sad to throw so much custard away. Especially one so tasty!

We never leave our family visits to StL without a stop at Ted Drewes for their FAMOUS frozen custard. You will never find a creamier style frozen dessert! The hot chocolate fudge sundae comes in a variety of sizes and flavors. It’s not to be missed.
Lines can be very long, however they move quickly.
Highly recommended.
