I am giving them a 3 star rating because we have been there before and have always had great food and great service. Our group goes on Saturday night after the Missouri Valley Conference basketball games. We have been doing this for several years and really have a great time. I'm sad to say that this year the experience was ruined by the most "rude" waiter, named Mark, we have ever had at any restaurant anywhere. It started when we ordered water and not a bunch of alcohol. He became very rude when we started to split our dinners. (it was 8:30 at night and most of us are in our 70's) When he was asked a specific question he was rude and talked down to the lady that asked. We ordered the salad that was listed at $3.99 but he charged us for large salads instead. We were never offered desert and had to ask several times to get a coffee refill. When we went to pay he said separate checks correct? When he brought them some of our party noticed items added that we hadn't ordered. When confronted about the bills being incorrect he actually yelled at our group and informed us that the restaurants policy was to not split the bill but make us figure it out on our own and one person would pay. (kind of difficult when everyone is paying by credit card) We understand the gratuity being added in when it was a large group but this waiter really didn't deserve any tip due to the poor service. I would like to change course and say the food was outstanding as usual. All of our group raved over the food and would love to go back again next year but not with that rude of service. We always recommend this place to others that are down for the tournament also.

As a proud Man Vs Food family, we looked for a place to have dinner. We saw Adam's video in St Louis and looked to have the 4 pound meat ball plate with spaghetti as a family not a challenge. We arrived and first thing to take note is that the restaurant is located in a family neighborhood so parking is a major issue. Since we have a SUV, parking was a challenge. Mamas is a well known place and the physical size of the restaurant will guarantee you a wait time in a Rona world. We had to wait 30 minutes in our car. They will call you on your cell when your table is ready. As you enter, it's a throw back to a classic time and with romantic aura. The building has 2 floors like a house and a bar is located as you enter the front doors (careful entering and leaving the place via the 2 front doors). We were seated in the sellar and a nice 1960's Christmas melody was playing. Our server was full of energy and on top of her game providing us with top knotch customer service. Complimentary butter and bread is provided to all tables. We ordered the calamari, fried ravioli and stuffed mushrooms as a trio plate. The boys ordered individual pizza and Alfredo from the kids menu. Wife had the spaghetti and I had the lasagna. The food was brought to us within a reasonable amount of time. First the appetizers were scrumptious with the calamari being slightly breaded and a very good lemon taste. The ravioli were a bit over fried but effective and the (3) mushrooms had the best combination of flavor. The boys enjoyed their Alfredo and pizza yet they think Domino's pizza is a culinary master piece. The wife enjoyed the spaghetti with no issues. The lasagna was full of cheese and flavor. The portion was adequate and filling. The cost was upper 80s with the tip. The flavor and customer service made it Ohhhh Mamamia Mamamia insert Queens Bohemian Rhapsody. Mama's is worth the parking obstacles.

We had server Matt tonight and he was really helpful with our questions. Toasted ravs are delicious but don't forget to try their other appetizers. The salad is very good with a oil and vinegar based house dressing. The bread is the only weak spot of this restaurant in my opinion. Not bad at all, and the olive oil on the table is good stuff. It is just other places on the Hill have better bread in my opinion. As far as the main dishes, the linguine with clams is excellent, as is the spaghetti and meatballs (the meatballs are huge!). At the end of the meal, Matt continued his great service with us and then we met 'Tonino' aka 'Tony'. He is apparently a desert specialist and he brought us some handcrafted chocolates to try which were great. He then recommended a gelato made from oranges and lemon that I had never had before and will get again. Just a great night out at Mamas with family and we will definitely be back.

Pre pandemic this was a 4-5 restaurant, sadly now a 2-3. After our main pasta course, everyone at the table had the same comment, “It was okay”. The calamari appetizer was stone cold, mush have sat in kitchen for 10 plus minutes. I wanted some Chianti and ordered the only bottle the waitress said they had, strange to only have one chianti in an Italian Restaurant. The bottle cost over $35 and probably was a $7 bottle, it was terrible. On bright spot, the side salad was great. Now on covid protocol, there is none which I do not even know is possible for a restaurant in St Louis City. None of the staff wore masks, tables were jammed together. The back of my chair was physically touching the chair at the table behind me. Obviously the clientele knows the lack of protocol, we were the only 4 to enter restaurant with masks on and the restaurant was packed. So obviously, if you do not agree , do not go. If we knew the meal was going to be so average to bad, we would have just left

The only reason I’m not rating this “terrible” is that we never even got to try the food. After waiting outside with drinks for about half an hour (fair enough, it was a busy night) we were seated in a small room where there was a family group of about 12 who turned out to be the obnoxiously loud Family from Hell. The waiter soon took our order and brought salad, but after about 40 minutes more waiting while barely able to hear ourselves talk we complained and were promised a table that was just being cleared in the next room. Five minutes later we saw them seating someone else there. At that point we left without eating. They should never have put anybody else in that small room with that family group. A miserable experience.

I had lunch with a friend. The host seated us immediately as they were not yet crowded at 12:30p.m. However, as we were there, the whole restaurant filled up. So a late lunch crowd I guess. Staff was delightful, especially our server, Marcus. He was attentive but not overbearing. Perfect! Started with a glass of Chardonay, a little pricey at $9, but very good, and a generous pour. Food was excellent. We chose to share an entree, and selected a Shrimp Scampi dish, (Gambrione maybe). Seven large shrimp, with sauteed spinach, mushrooms and cavatelli. It was delicious! Came with a house salad and both were plenty to share. Charge a $2 split fee in the kitchen, but that is not unusual, and expected. The accompanied Italian bread was excellent, and we were not rushed. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Highly recommend Mama's On The Hill, and ask for Marcus.

We stumbled upon this little restaurant and I am so happy we did! The atmosphere was great with dim lit candles and excellent service. The restaurant is small and parking was very limited, but we we had no problems getting seated. We got cheese sticks for an appetizer and the marinara sauce was excellent! My alfredo was decent as well but my husband got their beef ravioli and WOW! I wish I had ordered it myself! Everything from their sauce to their noodles seem to be homemade. I would DEFINITELY recommend eating here if you find yourself in st louis!

Everything we hoped for. Traveling with 2 kiddos under age 10. We wanted a Little Italy experience and Mama’s provided it. I was a little hard to find with all the one way streets but we were warmly greeted and shown right to our table (we had made reservations earlier in the day). While mama and papa have passed this is still a family restaurant with an awesome local vibe. Kids had spaghetti with marinara. The lady had the rabbit bolognese which she was extremely pleased with and I had spaghetti with meat sauce, meatballs and sausage. The marinara was home made nothing at all like Olive Garden. You could taste the tomato paste infused with sugar and wine as the base of the sauce. Matt was our waiter and he was outstanding. If you get a chance ask for him when you make the reservation. We went as a family but there were many tables having a special evening out romantically or with friends. We are so glad we had the opportunity to eat at Mama’s.

We were looking for a restaurant in the Hill late afternoon and found this restaurant. Most of us had the spaghetti and meat balls, others had the fettuccini, Cesar salad and cheese stix. All were amazing. The meat balls were tender and the pasta and marinara were very flavorful. We had Italian wedding cookies that were to die for. The service and atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We highly recommend this as a reasonably priced food stop while in St. Louis!

Dined on a weekday about 11 a.m.. Appears there is no lunch menu, so the menu offered serving far too large for midday. Service was attentive, but the food was nothing special. The Pasta con Broccoli, for example, was memorable in the wrong ways: the cheese sauce was more like a broth - runny; it was an orangish color, like a bad spray tan, possibly due to the addition of marinara; and there was far more sauce/broth than pasta, broccoli and mushrooms. It just did not set well on any level. I found nothing here to delight the tastebuds.

after a graduation, we stopped at Mama's on the Hill for lunch. Some of us wanted to try their toasted ravioli which was served with an outstanding red sauce. Others wanted something else. We were all very pleased with our food. It was really flavorful and nicely presented. Serving sizes are not huge, but the quality is very high. Service is good even when they are super busy. It was a fun, satisfying meal. While we were lucky and walked in and were seated, I think making a reservation - even for lunch - is a good idea.

Home of toasted ravioli and a matriarch of the most famous and historic restaurants in Saint Louis. Their salads are perfectly mixed and proportioned. Each bite contains all the zest of the house dressing with cuts of cheese, tomatoes, and the other veggies. Their home made bread comes out, fresh from the oven and sliced, ready to be dipped into the olive oil and spices. The kids love their meatballs. I am smitten with their pasta. They also make a great pizza. And, if wine is what you're in the mood for, magnifico!

This place was recommended to us by 2 different Lyft drivers, so we decided we better go. It was more than we expected. The food was so flavorful. I had the Eggplant Parmesan and it could have easily been shared with another person because it was so much food. My husband had the shrimp scampi and the shrimp were enormous and cooked to perfection. We shared the tiramisu for dessert and that poor little dessert didn't have a chance. It was love at first bite. Highly recommend this place!!!

This long-established Italian restaurant on the Hill in St. Louis lived up to its reputation for having very good Italian food. The host, bartender and drinks were excellent. The cheese sticks were perhaps the best I’ve ever had, and the lobster ravioli was definitely the best. Where it fell short was the Very slow service and noise. We waited at least forty minutes between the arrival of our appetizer and our entrees. The waiter was minimally apologetic and attributed it to a “tray accident “. We sat on the back room, where the noise was almost too excessive to talk.

We were told we had to eat on The Hill. We chose Mama's based on their online menu. We enjoyed generous "small" salads and a plate of delicious toasted ravioli. Our waitress, Brie, was an absolute delight and recommended all sorts of other places we needed to see in St. Louis. If you're looking for authentic food and not a chain restaurant experience, this is the place to come. Park on the street in the surrounding neighborhood.
