Two colleagues and myself recently visited on a Tuesday night later in the evening around 8:30 p.m. as it was a Tuesday night it was fairly quiet and lots of street parking as well as parking in the lot was available. Although it was later in the evening , when we entered we found the place almost full with what appeared to be locals and other business travelers as well. The menu has good variety and they offer a number of specials as well that evening. The wine list is extensive and offers lots of great selections by the glass. The wines were reasonably priced both by the glass and the bottle across the list. Similarly appetizers and entrees we're also reasonably priced with most entrees no more than $40 at the most. We started with a calamari appetizer for the table which was very fresh perfectly breaded and served with a nice sauce. Two of us had the house Caesar salad and we had lobster ravioli and veal nunzio as entrees. We also got a small side of the nightly pasta special as well. Everything was well made with good ingredients. Although the veal nunzio had a bit too much cheese for my liking it was still tasty. The lobster ravioli was also enjoyed, but also not a standout. A double shot of espresso at the end was very large and tasty. Overall it was a good dining experience and the service was excellent. St Louis has many wonderful Italian restaurants but at some point we would hope to return and try other dishes.

We had a wonderful dinner for two in a romantic restaurant. The food is authentic Italian. I had the baked spaghetti with meatballs and cannolis for dessert. The wait staff is attentive and the entire staff appreciated our time there and several came over to share their appreciation for our dinner with them. It was a bucket list restaurant for me and I was not disappointed.

This dinner was a business related dinner function. We arrived and were led to our seating area in a function room separate from the public dining area. Our lead waiter was very entertaining, explaining that the restaurant and the neighborhood was not Italian but Sicilian. He also explained the choices on the set menu in detail. Food was quite good for ‘function dinner’ fare, steaks were expertly cooked to order, didn’t taste like something sitting in a warming pan (which can happen for function food). Food was very tasty, few notches above typical red sauce Italian fare. Tiramisu dessert was excellent. Great place that seems like it’s been around as long as the neighborhood. If you’re nervous because it seems too authentic, the old adage says: don’t sit with your back to the door!

Be weary of their “specials.” Lesson learned on ordering those without asking price. Got slapped with $35 each on 2 different specials. 1st $35 dish was snapper with the 3 smallest “raviolis” I’ve ever seen in my life. And the 2nd $35 dish was 3 scallops on a small scoop of risotto. Food was subpar and prices were ridiculous. I suggest either sticking to the menu or going Mamas in the Hill or Zia’s. Also, not sure what the waiter’s problem was, but he acted like my boyfriend was crazy for asking for oil and pepper for his bread and seemed peeved that we didn’t order alcoholic drinks. All around a terrible experience. I love the hill, but will never go to Charlie Gitto’s again...

I made a reservation for dinner on my wife's birthday on 27 June 2020 through Open Table . This was done on 23 June. On 26 June, I received a reminder of our reservation on which I clicked YES we were going to be there at 5:30 as agreed to.. The response reconfirmed the reservation..... So, on 27 June we drove 18 miles, looking forward to a wonderful evening. So, when we got to the Hill location, we were horrified to find the restaurant closed and dark! What's going on! Why was the website excepting reservations, and why was a reconfirmation requested from me the day before the reservation. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. And today, 28 June, I received a backdated notice that my reservation was canceled..They should be ashamed!

Disappointed this visit. Grouper and salmon entrees both overcooked and dry, all sides optional. Lasagna good. Silverware kept sliding off sloping table not replaced by our server. Think as frequent prior visitors with large group inclined to try different dining location on the hill for next occasion

This restaurant is not unfamiliar to us and is one of our favorites. Located on the legendary Hill (Italian area) of the city, we are always welcomed vigorously by their host, Derrick and his assistant. This particular visit I ordered one of the evening specials, seared diver scallops atop an excellent gnoche, some fine Italian wine, and a great experience with my wife who thoroughly enjoyed her well-prepared swordfish, also a special of the evening. It wasn't just a fine meal, but a great experience. Thanks to Derrick and staff for a wonderful experience!

Coming from what I would claim to be the best Italian food stateside, Boston's North End, was seriously rivaled last night at Charlie Gitto's On the Hill. First of all this restaurant was recommended by locals and experienced travelers alike, so it was a no brainer. We had made reservations in advance, good decision making. We were greeted warmly and only had a short wait for our romantic table for two. The whole evening was unrushed and relaxing. Our waiter read mouthwatering specials of which I chose the Lobster and Pasta, my wife had the Veal Nunzio, both of us give these entrees two thumbs up. We have the STL favorite, Toasted Ravioli and was glad we did. A nice bottle of Chianti rounded out the evening ending with Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, another STL staple. The maitre'd visited our table three times assuring we were having a pleasant evening. Thank you for such great service. Going to STL, put this restaurant on your agenda.

Our party of 4 visited here for dinner - a couple of us arrived early and they accommodated us. For appetizers we had the breads, calamari and shrimp. They were all great. Our table had people with different dietary habits and we were all satisfied. we had the diver's scallops and risotto, the cheese tortellini, filet minion topped with crab meat with sides of Brussels sprouts. The wine list is good not great but our server was knowledgeable and suggested a good bottle of wine and followed up with a good glass of wine as well. we finished off with a couple of tiramisus for dessert which we shared. Service was very warm and friendly.

First time I've been to Charlie Gittos on The Hill. We love Italian food and usually dine in, or order pick up weekly. They have both. Restaurants starting to reopen so we chose to dine in but did sit out on their cute courtyard patio. 3 of us in attendance. Had an apoetizer platter of cheese and salami and eggplant which was prepared in a manner to be spread on the great brioche bread that accompanied it. Then moved on to their house salad. Have never experienced a salad so good and with so many vegetables etc in it that you got a new flavor of something different with each bite. Then we had our entre. Husband had lobster and shrimp spaghetti. He loved it. Has a bit of a spicy hot kick in it. Daughter and I had lobster ravioli. I hadn't had great fresh made noodles in a long time. Cooked just right so pasta wasn't mushy. Lobster and whatever else yummy contents they added to the ravioli were just perfect. Sauce was creamy blend and just right. Fresh Italian bread served with the meal was hot. Even with 95 degrees out we still enjoyed our patio meal. But if you absolutely hate heat the indoor dining was absolutely beautiful. Service was 5 star. Suzanne was our server and did an excellent job. Dessert wise we had a little Gelato and an espresso martini. Just finished our leftovers, at home, next day, and they heat up perfectly. I'm thinking my new weekly crave will be here.

Visiting St. Louis everyone said we needed to have dinner somewhere on The Hill, it didn’t matter where since they were all great. We chose Charlie Gitto’s because they had a patio, and are more than happy we did. The patio is beautiful and has good heaters for these fall nights. We enjoyed the Arancini appetizer which featured some pesto sauce which my wife loves. We didn’t see any pasta dishes with pesto on the menu, so we asked our waiter if they did. He said they did not, but could ask the chef if he could accommodate us. The chef was happy to do so and recommended a cream pesto over fettuccini...which was perfect. I chose the lemon chicken over angel hair pasta...very light, but filling. After enjoying our entrees we went for the tiramisu, which was the perfect ending to the evening. The atmosphere was wonderful, the service was great, the food was delicious, and it was a perfect evening.

We had a wonderful evening at Charlie Gitto's 'On the Hill' last Sunday evening. We booked our party of five for the patio and due to the potential for rain, they were kind enough to offer us indoor options a few hours before our reservation. We kept our outdoor spot on their lovely patio and they kept us quite comfy with the heaters. Every part of our meal, from appetizers to desserts was superb. We started with some fun cocktails (I'd skip the strawberry daquiri next time, but the lemon martini , bourbon mule & Bellini were very tasty) with the calamari, eggplant Napolean & toasted raviolis appetizers. The eggplant was to die for! We had three different salads and they were all perfect and then the mains - oh my! Seafood risotto, scallops, lobster ravioli and chicken parm were all absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed are dinner with a wonderful Barolo from their extensive list. We split a creme brulee & cannoli (the best any of us had ever tasted), with some espressos that were just perfect and not at all bitter. The wait staff was very attentive, and the pacing of the meal was spot on. Management stopped by to ensure we were enjoying our evening. It was a perfect night out.

My fiancé took me for my birthday. Service was good, the atmosphere was quite loud. The bread and appetizer (shrimps) were both good. I ordered gnocchi which was pretty good, but my fiancés steak was beyond charred and tasted burnt on the outside and the crab meat on top wasn’t the best. We also got a bottle of moscato wine which was good, but looked like you could buy it yourself for $15 and they charged us $42. They were nice enough to give a dessert on the house, but it didn’t taste good, so we didn’t eat it. Overall, the meal cost well over $200 and was not worth the price. We have been to many fine dining restaurants at the same price point that were much better food.

Rude from the beginning. party of 9 is just about 9 too many for Suzanne! She began the night by spilling a drink at the table and actually blamed us for the Crack between the two table's. She never once apologized , and actually got mad when she was asked to change the second table cloth that was soaked in whiskey. When she was asked to bring items to the table (i.e.) parmasanie and oil (which was $5) she just seemed bothered we even had to end up asking the guy filling the water glasses to bring it. When it was time for the check it was totally wrong! I've never seen a waitress or waiter so mad and agitated over making corrections due to her not listening. ( until I met Suzanne). Long story short this lady called my Father-in-law and myself an A**ho** to my face over her incompetence of doing her job and owning her mistakes. I made it clear to the manager they need to fire this lady, but after a quick social media search we'll let's just say my daddy wouldn't fire me either. They can keep their toasted ravioli and I'll keep spending my money elsewhere. Thank you for a memorial 13th birthday my son much appreciated it.
