We get together with 2 other couples occasionally and chose Hendel's last night. Sure glad we did. We reserved and were seated by 3pm on their nice back patio. Since it was Happy Hour, we ordered their conventional but well cooked tasty toasted ravs for only $5. Yum. For dinner, I chose their Peas and Bacon pasta dish, which is like a spaghetti carbonara but with linguine noodles. It was a good size portion and only $15. She selected their Salmon BLT for only $12 that came with a side. We shared wonderful bites of each. Our friends had various other meals and all advised they were very happy with them. Our waitress was Christy and she was wonderfully attentive and capable in every aspect. Bottom line, Hendel's deserves its #1 rating on TA from our perspective, due to the atmosphere, food, service and value pricing. We just wish it wasn't 20 miles away from us or it would be our regular go too.

Located in an olde store located in the old downtown (very small town, not urban megopolis), this place is just charming ambiance to start with. Limited parking in back, but plenty of street parking, They had live music on the patio the night we were there, and I think that is pretty regular during nicer weather months. There is seating available inside, or on the tree shaded patio area, and also on a porch area which is protected from weather. We chose the porch, and it was great. Menu is what they show on their website, somewhat limited, but with enough variety that you will find something to please. They have mastered each of these items, rather than trying to do an adequate job on a larger list. The lettuce wedge was superb, just the right proportion of top quality ingredients, The fish tacos were also great nice chunks of properly prepared fish and other ingredients. Carrot cake was simply wonderful as well. We overheard one of the waitstaff talking with some apparently frequent customers commenting that she had been working there for 4+ years and loved it, and most of the other staff had also been there for very long times, including one or two dating back to the opening 20+ years ago. That sort of loyalty in the fickle food business is almost unheard of, but explains how they have nailed their niche and keep things at peak perfection. This is only 10-15 minutes north of the airport area, and easy to find with GPS, We are looking forward to our next visit to the St. Louis area so we can explore other options on the menu.

That's how much my wife & I enjoy eating at Hendel's. Our two visits in this past week - one lunch as a couple & a dinner with another couple - provided the same high quality food, friendly & attentive service, and pleasant dining atmosphere that we've come to expect & look forward to. Hendel's has both indoor & outdoor dining options, and it is a very popular restaurant in a quiet neighborhood. So be prepared to wait for a table (no reservations taken), but the wait is always worth the satisfaction that you will leave with & remember & return to experience more of it.

The food was wonderful. I opted for the pear and pecan salad which was marvelous and the crab stuffed mushrooms. The stuffed mushrooms were good, but could have used a bit less cream to let the crab flavor come out more. All in all, it was a wonderful lunch. Be ready to have a bit of a wait when you arrive, even on a Tuesday noon, but it was well worth it!

I had lunch here with my aunt on a Tuesday about 1pm. We waited less then 10 minutes for a table. Our waitress was really nice, and knowledgeable. I had the chicken Philly with steak fries. It was really good, and I would get it again. We were celebrating a birthday, and our waitress was kind to bring a brownie dessert to celebrate.

My wife & I had an early summer weekday lunch at Hendel's while we in the neighborhood for personal business. We thoroughly enjoy being seated on their patio, and on this visit we especially appreciated getting a table under the awning with rain clouds moving in. The gardens around the patio spaces are well maintained, with a surrounding fence providing visual separation from the street & adjoining properties. Our hostess & waitress provided excellent friendly service as usual. We both enjoyed our lunch entrees (Salmon Power Bowl & Salmon Salad). Hendel's is still our go-to restaurant for special occasion dinners & pleasant day lunches & recommending to locals as well as to out-of-town visitors.

We were promptly seated for lunch on a Thursday. Our server, Erin, was absolutely amazing. She knew the menu well and was prompt with suggestions. We split the Mahi Mahi fish tacos and each had a salad. All were mouth watering. Great attention to detail, here. I went to the men’s restroom and as soon as I opened the door I was struck by the odor from the prior occupant. I immediately went to the handicapped restroom and upon my exit I was greeted by the hostess who had observed me leaving the men’s restroom. She asked me if something was wrong in the men’s restroom. Now that attention to detail!! We will definitely return to this amazing restaurant.

We come to Hendel's at least once or twice a month. The food is universally delicious, the waitstaff prompt, friendly, and helpful, and the ambience wonderful (the building is an old grocery over a century old, and the periodically changing decor is always fantastic), whether in the main dining room, the bar area, or outside on the patio surrounded by a beautifully landscaped garden. The main hostess, Christina (wife of the owner, who is usually in the kitchen) is gregarious and an absolute delight. We love it here!

My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our early lunch with patio seating on a sunny Friday in late May. The manager on duty was handling customer arrivals, while also training a handful of clearly new employees. The lunch service tempo was maintained expertly even as the lunch crowd grew, and our experienced server Zachary S. was very friendly & attentive. My wife ordered her favorite item from the menu, the Salmon BLT sandwich, with a cup of the day's offering of chicken rice soup as her side item; both were well prepared & very satisfying. I chose the Hendel's Summer Salad, which had fresh & tasty ingredients with enough volume to provide a second meal at home later that day. No matter how many new-to-us restaurants we try in the area, they are always compared to Hendel's which remains our #1 choice for great food in a casual & comfortable atmosphere.

I had dinner here with my aunt on a Wednesday evening, per her recommendation. I wasn't' disappointed. There was no waiting or indoor seating. We waited about 10 minutes to sit outside. They have a beautiful outdoor area that's covered well from the sun in the summer, and has a beautiful garden. The tables were set up for social distancing. The service was very good, and the employees were very nice (and all wearing mask). They offer a verity of salads, sandwiches, pasta, entrees, and burgers. As well as a nice selection of adult beverages. I had the cajun carbonara which was really good, and filling. I also ordered a house salad to go with it. I had their house ranch dressing. Also very good. I will defiantly be coming back to this restaurant in the future.

We started with spinach artichoke dip with homemade chips. She had the salmon salad which is always good. I had the American bacon cheese burger with coleslaw. It was great. There was some live music on the patio that started just as we finished dinner. We were so full that we had Jessica fix us a go box with the Carmel cake, it’s Made By Lia. Most fulfilling dessert

We had a memorial service in Florissant and so went to Handel’s afterwards. The restaurant is really pretty, inviting spaces indoors and out. There was a wait so we went to the bar and had to wonder wonderfully and carefully crafted cocktails. The staff was so friendly throughout the entire time. We split three dishes and they were so nice to provide split plates. We especially appreciated the generous portions of mashed potatoes. Order felit steak, and it was perfectly done. However, the food was good, but nothing extraordinary. But we still say we have an enchanted evening.

My Rose and I had a great Valentine’s dinner. Mike started us with a couple of drinks to go along with the calamari. We then had a warm spinach salad. Followed by dinner. She had the scallops on rice with flash fried spinach and glazed carrots on the side. I had the ribeye with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The only thing left to do is desert. Got to have the salted Carmel cake, which is made by Lia, which is outstanding. And being Valentine’s Day they gave us a glass of champagne to toast. Can’t forget our waitress Jess for making all this come together. A great evening dining.

This is a great little restaurant. For most of the building's life, it had been a neighborhood market. But, during the early 90s, it was purchased and renovated into this casual, but classy restaurant. The patio has a lovely water feature and there's plenty of seating. The bacon wrapped scallops were delicious, even if they were a bit small. Few more would have been nice as an appetizer. The salmon power bowl and the chicken Philly were both wonderful and suited our tastes. Service was attentive and our order arrived quickly, even though the restaurant was nearly full, right before noon.

My husband & I decided to try this place as it is reviewed as one of St Louis' best. First, it's a small, very crowded space. We asked to be seated on the porch-which was quiet-but I wouldn't have wanted to sit in the main room. They were out of multiple menu items on a Saturday early dinner, to start. The food was only okay. The stuffed mushrooms were undercooked so that some of the mushroom was raw. My husband got the grouper, which was good but I got the burnt ends mac n cheese (sounds awesome, right?) and it was awful. I took two bites and didn't eat the rest. It was more alfredo sauce than cheese and was drenched in it with very large chunks of meat thrown on the top. The lady at the table across from us heard me tell me husband it wasn't good and said it looked gross. I really like barbecue & burnt ends and I like good mac n cheese. This was neither. I'm giving Hendels 3 stars because our server was lovely, the building is cool & the fish was good but I have no intention of returning.
