Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Savoury scone, which the lady cut in half and buttered so therefore would have seen that it was raw, uncooked dough! She still chose to serve it to me 🫤 the triple coffee was poor at best. For $21 I would not recommend

$5 for a coffee?!!! I don’t pay that in central London, let along Auckland. But in Paparoa?!!! You’d think it would come with good food at that price, but alas. Places like this ought to work out that they need to be good at something, then get and stay good at it. Sadly not this place.

My coffee ( flat white) was aweful, bitter and ghastly after taste , almond square was last week's, crumbling and stale. Friendly lady, nice shop otherwise. 20/11/23.

My portuguese girlfriend loves Expresso and this caffeine addict is very choosy ! I love hot chocolate and the Village Cafe's Hot chocolate is served with marshmallows and you dont have to pay extra ! This cafe , gave us, a lovely warm welcome and we will return again tomorrow! Try the savoury scones , usually on the counter! Thankyou for reading this first review in Norghands New Zealand. Denise Drewett Side cars Passenger

Discovered this cafe on our way north almost by accident; it seemed closed at first glance, but don't let the outside fool you; this is the best pit-stop we have found between Auckland and the Hokianga by far.... Paparoa is a pretty village just past Maungataroto, the "Village Caff" has outside chairs, but inside is so charming (and The Little Dog" was even invited in...) so we just had to call back on the return journey too. Best of all, the home-made doughnuts are to die for; lovely owner, great food, even a little park with toilets and a playground right across the road. Have reviewed over a hundred restaurants and cafes, and I don't give five stars lightly, but this operator deserves it. Fantastic.

If you're travelling to Dargaville or beyond and want somewhere to eat a good coffee and cake or pie, this place offers tables and chairs so you can relax. Their food is good. I've been in several times.

We stopped here for coffee as we were out exploring. We were visiting our daughter and she was busy that morning. We had a latte and meat pie. Wow! The meat pie was so awesome!

As a regular customer of the café when it was with previous owners, I am VERY disappointed with current levels of service & food standards! I gave them a good go... the owner was regularly rude & the food was sometimes stale but I still was optimistic that it might improve. I began going in every morning for coffee & hoped to buy my lunch for the day but some mornings, the dishevelled owner who was still dressing as she came to the counter, made it clear that she's NOT a morning person & didn't have any food in the cabinets. She also had no idea how to make coffee & made excuses about her daughter not being at work to make it for her. The last straw was when she told me I was making her 'feel bad' because she had no food available & could only make me a small coffee because "I'm out of large cups so you'll have to just take what you're given!" When I commented that she 'should' feel bad, given that we were in there VERY morning for over a month, she yelled at me to "bugger off, get out & stop complaining!" So I have; 'buggered off' that is! And I won't be back until it changes hands again. I'll drive the extra distance to Tulips in Maungaturoto or Gumdiggers at Matakohe instead. Not only is there service far superior, so is their food!
