This restaurant starts the meal off with a nice salad bowl, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, pepperoncinis, carrot shreds, home-made dressings and bread from the wood-fired hearth! mmmm... The sauce is sweet in all of the pasta dishes which I like. My favorite is the "lasagna deluxe"and my wife likes meatballs with...anything.More
We stopped by here on our way home from a day out. We've never been here, but have been meaning to stop. The food and service were incredibly awesome. The food was so good and the portions were huge we had to bring leftovers home....Taylor was an outstanding waitress and was really on top of her game. We are already discussing when to go back!More
As promised, here's an updated review based on a recent family visit - and specifically trying the pizza. I would say everything jumped a notch or two.
We had a table of six dining, and there was not a discouraging word from anyone. The tomato...sauce, which had been suspect in previous visits, was spot on. The spicy marinara was just right this time around, too. There were two special orders which were fufilled to their utmost satisfaction.
And the pizza ... was sensational. All of the pizzas are "personal sized," but a very generous personal size to be sure. The fire-baked crust was wonderful -- thin, but not cracker crisp. All of the toppings were added in abundance, including the cheese, which would have been perfect for a TV commercial as it strung off the tray.
The service was friendly and fast, and our server was knowledgable of the menu.
It will take a couple more visits of consistently positive experiences to move Italia Gardens up to "great," but they're on their way.More
My wife and I absolutely love the Oxford Italia Gardens so we figured that we would give the Davison location a try since we were driving through on our way to a concert in Saginaw.
We were seated quickly and our server was prompt, polite...and attentive. I ordered Shrimp Tetrazzini and my wife ordered Chicken Alfredo . We received our food promptly and the food looked delicious. The sad news is that neither of our dishes had even a hint of flavor. It is as if the chef chose not to season at all.
We wound up seasoning with salt and pepper and we made the best of it. While I recognize that bland food isn’t the end of the world, it is an unpleasantness that we didn’t expect since we have never experienced it at the Oxford location. Additionally, this seems to be an ongoing problem given what other reviewers have said in their posts.More
Like my review of Whitey's, this review probably will be an outlier amid lots of positives. But here goes:
Italia Gardens enjoys a long history in the Flint area, and they do a rousing in-house and catering business, but I have just never been as...blown away as many of my contemporaries.
I find their red sauce much too sweet, and that's a drawback for a lot of the Italian entrees. They also have a spicy red sauce. It's good, but the spice level has risen over the past few visits to a point where I'd ask for a sample taste before ordering.
On the other side of the sauce spectrum, the alfredo is bland. It's also suffered from being either overly watery or overly pasty - that perfect consistency has rarely been hit.
I also find their portion sizes too small to warrant the prices charged. That said, they do offer daily/nightly specials throughout the week that can really help that bottom line.
Personal preferences aside, they have a large menu, and I have to defer to several decades of happy customers. You'll likely find something to enjoy. The wood-fired pizzas are supposed to be great, but I've never had one. Along the same line, they do fresh-baked bread with each meal, and that is exceptional.
So there you have it. For what it's worth, I like Italia Gardens way more than Whitey's. In fact, we're planning a family dinner there soon. Maybe I'll try a pizza and follow-up this review.More
Love the food and service here
Salad and fresh baked wood fired oven
My wife and I love everything on menu
The biggest problem is deciding what to order
We always order different entree so we can sheer both
I may have had a better experience but they were packed and we had to sit in the middle of the place so there was constant action. Not my favorite, but if a family goes, I don't think you would notice as much as just...a couple.More
We ate here on our way home from Ohio. The inside was less than expected. The service was good. I ordered the lasagna which I could not eat because it was sooooo sweet. The salad was fine. The bread dry. Customers who like sugar will...probably like it here but I will not return.More
