I went for early dinner yesterday and today. This location is convenient and has amble parking in an upscale town center, located right off the interstate. Make sure to try the deviled eggs and crab with shrimp fritters! They have the best salads ever, especially...both chicken salads. They also have the best fish and chips, this side of Boston. Make sure to get it served with coleslaw, as it is very tasty. The smoked salmon is another great choice. The bread is fresh baked every day, and delicious! I do not particularly like the bread pudding, very bland, not like the bread pudding I'm use to in New Orleans or Charleston, S.C., where it is quite good. The key lime pie is a better choice for dessert. Server Katie was hospitable and always serves with a smile. She treats patrons as if they are special. Make sure to ask for her area. The bar area is pretty busy on weekends, if you like a vivacious bar scene. If you like a quiet place to dine, go in between 1:00pm to 4:pm on week days, otherwise the place is quite lively, and can be loud. They have a nice brunch menu on weekends.More

OK. nothing "great" it. I had a party of 3. Started with The Lobster Bisque- it was too salty. Asked for rolls, they don't provide rolls- the bread was an extra charge and kinda sweet. The main dishes were the Crispy fish tacos (very mid),...the fish fingers (again very mid) and the jambalaya pasta--which was left on the table- it was just subpar. They have a great location. This would be a nice place for drinks, maybe, but for food--well at your own risk. I was attracted to the high rating online, but won't go again.More

Attracted by the very high ranking and while good was a bit disappointing. Started off with the crab sliders, which were meager in substance. Then the salmon salad which was again good but nothing that would bring me back. And the bread they bring is...sort of sweet, almost dessert-like. Sort of weird. I liked the place but I don’t see it as the number one restaurant in entire area.More

We had a great friends catch up here. The location was really nice, the staff fitted us both in to their booked restaurant and our server was really polite. The food and drinks came promptly and all dishes were fresh and tasty. Afterwards we enjoyed...a few drinks at the bar, where again the staff were attentive, polite and made good quality cocktails. Thank you for a great nightMore

Located 5 minutes from the interstate, in a great town center location, with easy parking. The decor is very attractive with mostly large booths spaced far enough apart to have a conversation. Can be very crowded on weekends, however, service is efficient. One can dine...inside or outside on the deck. They have a popular noisy bar vibe, for those that like that sort of thing. Good to dine if you crave food with a southern flair. The menu items are hit or miss. Best items are deviled eggs for appetizer, wonderful fried fish & chips or salmon for entree. Have a tasty key lime pie for dessert, which is a very nice option for someone's birthday, as it is served decorated, with a candle in the center. The burgers are decent, but I prefer served with lettuce and tomato, but have to ask for it. The bread pudding dessert is tasteless and bland, not like bread pudding served down south in New Orleans or Charleston, S.C. I do not enjoy the bbq ribs, as it needs a better recipe. The steak for entree was enjoyable with mashed potatoes and spinach. All of the entree salads are very enjoyable, even though the one served with shrimp and pasta is a little too salty, but tasty. Bread basket is an extra dollar charge, and has a nice variety, esp when served with fried donuts, which are addicting!!More

Consistently good food and professional, friendly service. We eat here fairly often and have enjoyed everything we’ve tried. No matter what we eat for our main course, we always start with the amazing deviled eggs! Eric was our server on our last visit, and he...was outstanding-very attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. We’ll be back.More

There's nothing relaxing about this Coastal Flats. At all. If they tell you your wait is going to be 30 minutes, plan on an hour because they're not seating parties of identical size in order of arrival. The food was mediocre at best - the...crab cakes were gross and unbelievably salty. They won't bring water or bread unless it's explicitly asked for. So, in summary: Disorganized front desk; horribly inaccurate wait estimates; nasty food; sub-par service.More

Was really looking forward to getting some good seafood while I was in MD. Wasn't here. 1. Their website stated they had oysters - there were none. 2. Ordered the crab cake appetizer. Thought it tasted weird and there was about 1 tablespoon for crab....Asked waitress about it. She said it was actually made with a mix of shrimp and crab meat. Sent the plate back. 3. Ordered the lobster salad. Menu said it was one lb of lobster. Not True! Per the waitress, the whole lobster they use to get the meat is one lb. It's not one lb of crab meat. Rest of salad was good. 4. If you order the dessert which is around $8.00, they state they give 25 cents to some food bank. WOW a whole 25 cents!More

Actually, I've been to this restaurant several times, however, this was the first visit in two years since the pandemic started. But, unfortunately, the most recent visit was somewhat disappointing in regard to the quality of the food. I had the veggie burger which wasn't...bad, but my buddy, who had never been here, had a steak which he said was way overcooked to the point of tasting burnt. Afterward, I had the chocolate bread pudding, but it was more like a cupcake than bread pudding, which was a real bummer. It had a cake like texture as opposed to bread! Don't know that I'd go back or recommend. There was such a huge swing in the quality of the food from previous visits that I had to wonder if the kitchen staff had changed after the pandemic. The only good point was that the service was excellent, but it's the food that matters the most!More

Overall we enjoyed our recent dinner at Coastal Flats in Gaithersburg. We came to the restaurant on a Monday evening without reservations. We entered the restaurant and the hostess greeted us and asked if we had reservations. We replied no and she took a few...minutes to check dining room status. She then escorted us to a booth in the dining room. We love the overall ambiance of the dining room. Lots of fun fish hanging from the ceiling and interesting art work on the walls. We had a view of the exhibition kitchen. Our server Alexander came to the table and inquired if we would like beverages. My guests ordered an Arnold Palmer ($4.00) and a glass of Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon 9oz ($12.00), I ordered a Stella Pinot Grigio glass 9oz ($13.00) The restaurant has a nice wine list offering and many offered by the glass in either 6 or 9 oz pours, After serving beverage we placed our order with him. I asked what the fish of the day was and he described it and the price (Red Snapper $35),, I then asked what the market price of the crab cakes were and he replied $45. I ordered the crab cakes with spinach and cole slaw. My guests ordered the Fish Fingers ($18) and Babycake Sliders (2) ($10.00). I also asked for some bread service ($1.00), Alexander brought what was some doughnut type of bread with honey butter. The restaurant makes a donation of $1.00 when you order bread service to help improve food insecurity in the community. Food was served quickly and was prepared as expected. The cole slaw was some of the best I have ever had, crisp and fresh. My crab cakes were prepared to perfection and while $45 seems like a lot I know that the restaurant is paying premium prices for lump crab meat. My wife loved her fish fingers, a generous portion and my other guest enjoyed her sliders. After dinner our plates got cleared by another server Alyssa who also took our dessert order. We decided to share a piece of their Key Lime Pie ($8.00). A good decision and we highly recommend this dessert. Alyssa brought our check and wished us a good day. I asked if her and Alexander were partners and she replied that they were responsible for the area where our table was. Both servers were friendly but could would have enhanced the dining experience with some small talk conversation and building of rapport with us,.More

Located in the Downtown Crown development outside of Gaithersburg, Coastal Flats is a delightful venue that makes one think of a vacation on the shore - a trip to the beach. They offer a full menu of seafood, ranging from mahi-mahi to fish tacos. Of...course, they offer burgers, salads and pasta. (I enjoyed their Louisiana Pasta, which is reminiscent of jambalaya. Great service and ambience makes for a great lunch or dinner.More

I would say that the menu has several fish and seafood options, so if that might bother you being around fish, maybe reconsider.
