We visited on a Friday evening and the restaurant was nearly full which was great to see. After a bright and cheery welcome we were offered a choice of two tables which was nice. Great cocktail and soft drink options. Service was as friendly and...upbeat as the welcome. For starters, we shared the Seared Scallops, the Sticky Chipotle Chicken and some Artisan Bread. First two were awesome, especially the chicken with its chilli jam. Artisan bread was a bit ordinary but not dislikeable. For main my daughter took a margherita pizza which was good with fresh tomatoes. My wife had the Dirty Burger which was excellent and I had the Pork Belly with scallops. Mine was delicious with a really rich jus. Service throughout was really attentive. Plates quickly cleared, new drinks brought promptly.More

Page was absolutely brilliant. They were 2 staff down but she never forgot us, stayed in touch while we waited for our table and even though they were flat out she seven managed to arrange a ‘congrats’ sweet course at the end of the meal...for my daughter’s graduation which I only mentioned in passingMore

We were welcomed, no sorry, met at the entrance desk by a guy that came over and was working on the PC for a couple of minutes, totally ignoring us. He then asked, without looking up, "do you have a table booked". We responded with...the details of the booking, and being slightly earlier we expected to have to wait a bit. He then said "I don't know if the table is ready yet", and walked off, leaving us there. We were eventually led to our table, not feeling in any way welcome. We were asked what we would like to drink straight away by the waitress, which was good so we ordered a pint of cider and a pint of lager. It took at least 10 minutes for the drinks to be delivered, and when they arrived they were both short measures. You could understand a small amount of head on the lager but with the cider, being less gassy, there should be no really visible short measure. We ignored this at this point. It was another 15 minutes or so before the order for food was taken. When the food did arrive, the camembert starter was really tasty, not too strong, but a bit short of toast. The mains arrived not too long after finishing the starter. Both meals were well presented and very tasty. It was a bit strange at how patronising the waitress was though referring to everything as "we". Are we ready to order yet? Are we enjoying the meal? Do we want another drink? Have we finished? I ordered another pint of lager which again came very short measured. This was pointed out to a waiter who said OK then walked off and did nothing. I took the glass to the bar and asked for a top up. The bartender's response was "well that's a premium lager, it comes like that". I asked again for a top up. He added a few drips, seemingly trying to make a point! So I insisted on a pint, to which he finally complied. We then finished the lovely meals and asked for the bill. The bill was delivered to us and upon checking it contained a drink we had not ordered or received. This was corrected, and we then paid the bill. The Cromwell Cottage could be such a nice place to eat, but the service, and obvious lack of training of the staff really lets it down. This is not our first visit, but unfortunately not a dissimilar experience.More

We hadn't been to the Cromwell in a while, so we thought we would pop down. We could see it was busy, but could also see the staff working very hard and managing it well! We were greeted by a lovely smile and shown to...the bar. We were still provided with great service when we went to order. Food was perfect aswell ! ThanksMore
