My husband and I shot sporting clays at the hunt club then had dinner and wine at the winery. We spent the night in one of the Estate rooms. Everyone was so nice, the pizza was the best that we’ve EVER had and the wine...was amazing! Our room was spotlessly clean. The shower was wonderful and the bed was super comfy. If you book an estate room, I would recommend rooms 4, 5 or 6 as these rooms face the Winery, lodge, etc. Rooms 1, 2 and 3 face the road.More

The wine is priced right. The food is a cut above what you would expect. The scenery is great. The staff and guest are friendly. A great place to stop at when out for a drive.

Had a very nice tour at the winery. Staff was very knowledgeable about the process and their brands. Tasting set up was nice and there was a good variety of food on site as well. For non wine drinkers they had draft beer, bottled beer...and soda. Grounds and patio made for a nice environment to sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine with lunch. Will be going back for sure.More

Elk Creek Vineyards is a gorgeous facility nestled in the beautiful rolling hillside of Kentucky. It is quite isolated but, once you find it, you will not be disappointed. Great service and selection of wines. The food is good too.

What a nice place to enjoy some reasonable wines with a beautiful view. The wine making tour was worth doing. You really come away with the overview of their operation. The public area, bar and wine cellar are beautiful. Sadly, a couple of years ago,...a frost hit and destroyed most of their vines. They plan to restore the estate (on site) wine-making but for now, the grapes are purchased then produced on-site. There is an amphitheater on the property for occasional concerts. They have a limited menu but items like cheese trays, salads, etc. were good quality. TIP: At the time of our visit, KY Rt 330 coming from the east-side (I-75) was in terrible condition due to springtime washouts. There are others ways to access. Very enjoyable. This is the largest wine-making operation in Kentucky.More

This restaurant is actually an appendage to the excellent Elk Creek Winery. As such, you can see the vats, the tasting rooms, the wine storage etc. throughout. The "restaurant" is basically the option to grab some food while you're tasting their wine. And make no...mistake about it - you really want to taste their wine. The tasting room overlooks a beautiful view of the rolling hills of Northern Kentucky. If you look carefully, you can even spot some (isolated) vineyards there. A porch allows you to taste your food (and your wines) outside, weather permitting. The inside of the tasting room is stunningly beautiful. Absolutely the right place for a business meeting, a re-union, a company celebration, or a wedding reception. A tasteful combination between rustic and stylish, really well done. Having experienced French wine chateaus, Spanish bodegas, and German Weinstuben, this place easily holds it's own. To eat here, you order some food at a counter, receive a numbered tag which you bring to your table, so that a waiter finds your with the food being served. Our kids both choose the Mac&Cheese ($6), which they both identified as "clearly Kraft". My wife and me both choose a Chef Salad ($9) - which was very good. We also had a cheese sampler - a (styrofoam) plate with three (thick) slices of cheese for $11. The cheese was ok, but $11 is totally overpriced. But ... the food experience is also where the place's sense of style stumbles: you order your food at a counter, fast food style. Please make up your mind whether you want to be a stylish restaurant or a McDonald's. The food is being served on Styrofoam plates. Styrofoam? What's next, serving the wine in plastic cups and disposable straws? Neither the counter-ordering nor the styrofoam fit the intended ambiance of the place. They just make me wonder whether someone overcharged me for some so-so food in a pretend-restaurant.More

Great place for a day trip if you are in Cincinnati or Louisville. It is quite a remote place (we lost the GPS signal multiple times on the way) but very much drivable. They have complimentary wine tours twice every day which you can book...through their website. We missed ours as we lost the track of time. However, we went on to purchase a Chardonnay after trying a couple of options and it was great quality - so I believe wine tour shouldn't be missed. They have a beautiful vineyard at the back which is a great sight even on a cloudy day. Inside, there is plenty of seating options - inside as well as outside in open - and one can enjoy different types of wines and food. We just tried one of their desserts (cannot recall the name now) and it was great.More

My employees got together and got me a 3 day getaway here based on internet search and distance! Well let me say that though I appreciated it I was sorely disappointed! We checked in and instead of being in the “lodge” we were sent up...the road to a triplex type room... 1 bed, mini fridge, bathroom and a broken pop machine outside our room - didn’t know it was broken until we attempted to use it. The bed has never been flipped as I had to endure 3 days of back spasms due to the old bed. There was no information provided on things to do... glad we found The Ark to visit - I fully understand that being out of season they were not booked - we were the only ones there but the package came with free breakfast and since there was no one else we couldn’t do breakfast at their winery we were given a basket of 2 boxes of dry cereal, 2 stale buns, 2 Baby muffins that were ok and 2 mason jars with milk and orange juice in them. So disappointed -this did not vary the 3 days. We did a complimentary cheese tray when we went to the winery that was 3 slabs of cheese, uncut, crackers and a plastic knife. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return and Wouldn’t recommend as any get away. Hopefully new management happens quickly - I’m giving 2 stars because the girls at the winery were very nice.More

Came down to shoot and ended up eating there twice. For lunch they had a nice selection of sandwiches, pizza, etc. Ended up going back in the evening for dinner - they have a couple of specials every night and what we had was terrific....Sat out on patio and view was perfect. Wine selection is pretty broad, my wife likes sweet wines and I prefer dry - we both found something we like and enjoyed the process of picking out with the staff. They also serve beer if wine is not your thing, couple of micro beers on tap and the usuals in aluminum bottles.More

Pros Still a nice property set on a scenic hillside Cons Unless you are a sweet wine drinker wine quality is poor Tasting fees are high ($9) for 5 pours of dry wines The property is deteriorating (erosion issues, major vine loss) Scenery is not...what it once was due to major vine loss Food is OK. Nothing exceptional. Elk Creek Vineyards started about 10+ years ago as what can be considered a vanity project. The winery building is a large and impressive structure featuring a large indoor seating area and an even larger outside area that overlooks a nice pond and hillside. When it was first in business, the surrounding hillsides were covered in vines and gave the entire property a California feel. There has always been an adjacent shooting club, so the sounds of gunfire nearby provide an odd vibe, but it's far enough away to offer just background noise. Initially the winery offered a nice selection of Kentucky wine as well as wine made from fruit from the west coast. Some of it was quite good, although sometimes a but pricey. Over time, as ownership has shifted, the wine options and wine making approach has changed quite a bit. When we visited a year ago there was a major erosion issue that took away almost 1/2 of their parking lot. When we came back a couple days ago we were shocked to see that the erosion issue looks even worse than before. It somehow seem symptomatic of the entire place. You get the sense that this one time gem is sliding down hill. The wine list is 3/4 sweet and fruit wines. That's fine. I've actually had fruit wines that can be quite good, although most fruit wines tend to be super sweet. They had 5 or 6 'dry' wines (Cabernet, Merlot, Chard etc). For a rather pricey $9 tasting fee you get 5 pours, but they will let you try one or two other things if you ask nice. In general the wines were overly sweet, lacking in any body and in general just plain low quality. This is shocking considering the fruit is sourced from California. I have no problem with them using CA fruit, but if they do that then I expect at least a certain level of wine. One of the big features of the place for years was the surrounding hillsides covered in vines. These vines are largely gone, and what you see now is mostly a barren hillside and a pond. I understand weather killed quite a bit, but I suspect poor vineyard management has made the issue worse. They really need to restore at least some of the vines to at least restore the view. The lunch time cafe features a selection of sandwiches. Overall the quality is OK. My wife had a nice BLT, my grilled ham and cheese was bland at best. OK for lunch, but I wouldn't drive out of my way just for the food. Overall, this could be a nice place again, but it's going to take some work. I hope the new ownership is able to turn things around.More
