Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were in the area yesterday and searching for lunch when we found RJ's, using TA. It was a very good find. Nothing fancy but just very good eats. We ordered the half slab of ribs platter for $18 and chose their corn casserole as...our side. We also chose their BBQ Shrimp app for $10. Summary. Service was attentive and friendly. Ribs were meaty and tasted VG. BBQ sauces were just okay. Shrimp sauce was VG but shrimp were a little small and rubbery. We left full but undecided on whether we'd return, if in the area.More

Apparently $10 cover change on weekends which they tell you about as you’re leaving not when you arrive. Unbelievable !!

Hidden gem in Mission, Kansas! This was our first experience with Kansas City BBQ & it was delicious. We got the burnt ends (we chose pork belly), mac&cheese, yummy fresh fries (they tasted like beer battered but idk), we mixed the hot bbq sauce &...mild sauce to dip our fries and meat in. 😋We also had Bison empanadas with chipotle sauce to dip in, Texas toast, pulled pork, brisket, & potato salad. Toast was fresh & fine. The bbq was very good, as well as the sides. This Kentucky girl also approved of the delicious sweet tea! RJ’s is nothing fancy but it is clean & super cute with Kansas sports & memorabilia. Our server was wonderful & the atmosphere was that of a nice local fun family restaurant w/a hint of a pub feel. Loved it! Thank you from your new Ky friends!More

The almost 5 stars got me here, and all I can say is some people lied! Food wasn’t terrible but definitely not 4.5 stars worthy. We got the nachos, 2 meats meal, and shredded brisket sandwich. Taste buds did not have a party that’s for...sure.More

Party of 5 ate here last Saturday night around 8 p.m. Not a super big place. Good service and barbeque. Ordered the burnt ends appetizer - fantastic. Everyone loved their BBQ - wings, pulled pork, mac n cheese were our favorites. We liked they had...a bar too. Lots of take-out happening while we were there – always a good sign. We definitely would put this in our top five favorites for BBQ in KC, if not even higher.More

What a GREAT lunch! Five of us stopped in at RJ's today and had a truly marvelous meal! Sherry was covering both hostess and server duties and despite the many demands on her time, she took our orders and brought our meals out quickly. She...helped each of us with menu questions, managed all our selections, and did everything with a smile. The food was all INCREDIBLY tasty! I had the po' boy sandwich with pulled pork and coleslaw, and the flavors melded beautifully--augmented by their delicious sauce. My side of sweet potato fries were perfectly done--golden brown outside, soft inside, and not at all greasy. My friends who ordered those items agreed. Other items ordered were the barbeque chicken sandwich, macaroni and cheese, and regular fries, and they all received two thumbs up from my dining companions. The prices are excellent and the portions are just right. The décor is down-home casual and very inviting. And the music selection is popular tunes from the 60s, 70s and 80s. What's not to like?! I can't believe I haven't visited RJ's before today! I am DEFINITELY coming back!More

I love RJ's BBQ. However, for the first time they made us felt unwelcomed. My husband went in to order food to-go while i waited outside because we had our dogs. (Plus lobby was closed and the place was about to close in an hour)....15mins later, I had to use the restroom, so my husband and I swapped places. After coming back from the restroom, I saw a few bags sitting on the counter, so i simply asked if our food was ready. The cashier asked the cook, and he shouts out "Dang, I just got the order, they need to wait!" Even the cashier was shocked and told him I just got there and he didn't have to be so rude! So sad, because that BBQ was one of my favorites.More

We stopped here for takeout and enjoyed the really big rib and meat platter. The brisket was good, but the ribs were my fave. The sliced chicken was ok but I’d rather have tried on the bone beef burnt ends, beans and Mac and cheese...were good. The fries were yummy. Friendly service.More

Chose RJ’s while in town for a day and was not disappointed. The jalapeño sausage appetizer is a must. It was flavorful without being over jalapeno-y. Perfect amount of heat and spice. We ordered a 2 meat plate with fries and it came with ribs...and brisket. And a pulled pork sandwich with fries. Everything was tender and delicious. They have four very good sauces to choose from. Hot sauce, Habanero, Southern and Original. Usually I’m only love one sauce but all of these were very good. The brisket was so tender! We also ordered a slab of ribs to go along with beans, Mac and cheese and potato salad. The potato salad was excellent. Service was good and we will definitely head back to RJ’s when we are in town again.More

Eat at this place often. They have great specials and great happy hour specials. It's a hidden gem and I think the barbecue is one of the best in the city.

Slightly askew brunch, with wonderful smoked meat alternatives. Typical bbq bar interior but I loved the different takes on Sunday brunch. Not just beef or even pork burnt ends, but pork belly burnt ends. Their custom sausage is wonderful. Smoked bacon bloody Mary was a...delight at $6. Go and enjoy!More

Small local place. Cozy atmosphere- wooden bar and booths. Several TVs showing football games during our Sunday early evening visit. BBQ brisket sandwich was excellent. Four kinds of BBQ sauce to choose from. Sauce was runnier than thicker, but flavor is good- basic sauce is...savory. Sweet potato crinkle fries were crisp!! Yummy! Service was friendly. Wait time for food was not too long or too short- just about right. The manager checked in to make sure we were satisfied. We were!More
