Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fine dining in an enormous but elegant mansion. Attentive and efficient service complements the superb cuisine. The prime rib is excellent but I went for the Roast Indiana Duck. Prepared to perfection, not over cooked, tender and flavorful in a sauce that enhances rather than dominates the duck. Served with a bed of potatoes and vegetables. Started with the French Onion Soup – tasty with a bit of a kick. Might be sourced from the prime rib beef broth?
The setting is worth the visit. Created in 1889 by Clem Studebaker of the wagon and automobile family, the estate sits on 4 acres of property near downtown South Bend. Designed by famed architect Henry Ives Cobb of Chicago the four-story mansion occupies nearly 24,000 square feet. It is of the style known as “Richardson Romanesque” featuring a fortress-like appearance of gabled dormers, towers, archways and stone walls.
Original woodwork and wrought iron enhance the period nature of each room. Guests are greeted by a massive oak staircase leading from the second floor entry to the third floor. Dining areas on all floors permits accommodating small to very large groups. Outdoor seating is also available weather permitting. The spacious bar area featuring beers from the local Studebaker Brewing Company is on the third level.
Plenty of off street, self-parking. Elevator access to upper floors. Worth a visit and tasting.

My husband and I celebrated our 53rd Anniversary last night at Tippecanoe Place. Over the years we have dined there for special events (other anniversaries, our son's rehearsal dinner, holidays etc.). We had Kelly as our server and she did a fantastic
job making our dinner very special, even during this time of the pandemic.

We enjoyed brunch at Tippecanoe Place very much. The service was excellent and ambiance was lovely. The food was delicious although the roast beef was rather tough and the barbecued chicken was dry (overcooked). The self tour of all four floors was well worth doing.

My wife & I were staying at a nearby B&B, and chose to try Tippecanoe Place's Stubebaker Brewing Company lounge upstairs for a light evening meal. Exterior signage to access the lounge was confusing, but we finally found a front desk attendant who kindly pointed us to the proper stairway. The lounge surroundings are attractive with lots of carved wood, and they have at least one adjacent private dining area in addition to the main bar & high-top table seating. Unfortunately our waitress was the only server on duty for a Friday (the bartender helping with table service when it became clear she was overwhelmed), and the food was no better than average fare (a mac & cheese dish with an almost overpowering beer cheese sauce, a Caesar salad with an overload of dressing, unremarkable French onion soup which was delivered just when we were ready to cancel it & pay our check). The beer & liquor drinkers around the bar seemed far more pleased than the diners, so I'd recommend SBC for drinks only with other plans for your meal.

I took my mom & cousin's son downtown South Bend, IN. For the yearly December Holiday Walk. Each & every place we stopped at, on the map was unique, but nothing as Grand as Tippecanoe Place. It's the old Studebaker Mansion that they've turned into a fine dining & entertainment establishment. It was decorated so beautifully during the holidays, with a self led tour, using a guide they gave us. We even got to ride the servants elevator as my mother couldn't climb all the stairs. I intend on going there for the mystery & dinner soon, as I've heard is well worth the price. I'll be there soon and very soon. I'm sure you won't be let down.

The worst service that I’ve encountered in my life. I have eaten at this restaurant before, but today’s experience should be a caution for anyone who is even considering going to eat at this restaurant. They got my order wrong twice. On the second time the waiter said, “what do you want me to do about it.” When I asked for the manager, he took 10 minutes and then came out and slammed my bill on the table and said nothing. When I said to him, “Are you going to ask what the problem was” the manager said “No I took your charge off the bill.” When I asked to speak to the owner, he said he would talk to the two employees, but never even offered an apology. Avoid at all cost!

We were traveling and found tge restaurant on their website. Loved the pictures & decided to try it out. We had a great experience. It was busy when we got there, but waitress happily agreed to take our table even though she was quite busy. Service was pleasant, very attentive & gave great suggestions of foods to order. Our meals were cooked to order, and everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. We loved exploring the building & learning the history of the mansion. I highly recommend eating here.

Once again our daughter-in-law surprised us with her thorough planning expertise.
Highly recommend making a reservation for this amazing restaurant; ours was for 11 am on a Saturday.
Parking is plentiful and there are handicap spots. I did not see a handicap ramp.
The building was the home of the Studebaker family; it is now privately owned and operated as a restaurant and event venue.
Give yourself plenty of time to wander the four floors available to the public. Feast your eyes on the lush 1800s woodwork and furnishings. Allow your imagination to wander back to the glamorous life of the Studebakers.
We had our meal in the pub area on the second floor. Our waitress was very gracious, friendly and attentive. Prices are a bit cashy but the servings are plentiful . I had a delicious Mac and cheese dish. Our bill for four adults with tip and adult beverages was about $200.

Let's start of with the good.
The grounds and exterior are amazing. The staff friendly and always had a smile.
The minute you walk in you can sense the potential this place has and if you have come here say ten, or twenty years ago you would say wow this used to be.....
The place needs a refresh. Server great but the wait, we ordered prime rib it was ok, it took over an hour to get it to the table. The server kept apologizing for the slowness of the kitchen.
The soup and salad took a good twenty minutes to get to us and they both were just mediocre. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be rushed at a nice restaurant but this was just way to much.
Play a little soft music or maybe put a little flower vase on the table.
If you go just get a burger and enjoy the surroundings.
Spent a few dollars and get this place back to how it used to be.

I was excited to attend a wedding shower at the famed Studebaker Mansion at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend. We drove up from Indianapolis to attend. The service was appalling. 20 guests selected their own meal & it took forever for everyone to get served. Some received their meals & were finished before others at their table were even served. There was no communication about when or if we were going to get our meals. My meal, one of the near last to be set was not even hot when I got it (chicken marsala). I couldn’t eat the chicken & I was ill shortly after eating it. The vegetables were good & so was the bread. Mashed potatoes were just weird & lumpy. The server we had was rude & couldn’t bother herself to walk around our table to refill tea for us when there was plenty of room. Her eyelashes looked ridiculous I might add. Anyway I was ver disappointed.

My husband and I celebrated our 57th anniversary at Tippecanoe Place. My husband was pleased with his prime rib. I was quite disappointed with my filet mignon. I ordered it to be done medium well. The actress asked.....so a little pink? I said, "yes". There was No pink - it was overdone. The flourless chocolate torte was dry and disappointing. The waitress told us they were known for this dessert. Our waitress, Kelly, was very nice and very helpful. After our dinner the self-guided tour of this grand old mansion, built by Clem Studebaker of the Studebaker automobile fame, was enjoyable.

A group of 5 of us ate in the dining room and were very happy with the service, and the food was quite good. I would say the restaurant is in need of major renovations, and there were annoying flies throughout the dinner. Tippcanoe itself is an amazing building and we enjoyed looking through the various floors and rooms after dinner. I would recommend it to anyone visiting South Bend.

Not sure why “Ceremony Only” is clearly shown as an option on your website, but when I inquired, was told by Jasmine Flickner:
“Unfortunately will no longer offer ceremony only. You would now need to host a reception or post ceremony dinner following the ceremony to get married here.”
When I asked why the website clearly states otherwise: NO RESPONSE.
Maybe someone can point out where this information is available to the public?
If this IS in fact the case (which according to your own advertising, IT’S NOT) you need to update your website.

Our group of 29 recently had a special event lunch in the State Dining Room. The food was amazing and Ella and Kevin did a great job serving the different courses promptly, professionally, and with courtesy. Kevin also gave us a history lesson about Tippecanoe. Thanks to Ella and Kevin for providing a wonderful dining experience!
