I’m not a big fan of Hacienda BUT

I’m not a big fan of Hacienda except for their ranch and margaritas. But, they do a great job with gluten free options for my husband. The chips are cooked in a dedicated fryer.

Very average food

On a recent visit to South Bend, I was in the mood for Mexican food. I was only about two miles from this restaurant so I decided to try it. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and the service was great. The food however, was very average. I have found the chips and salsa can be a good indicator of the quality of the upcoming dinner at Mexican restaurants. In this case, the chips were okay and the salsa was little more than diluted tomato paste. I wonder how many spices can be found in their kitchen. I suspect, not many. I ordered the burrito/chimi/salad combo plate. It was okay but not noteworthy in any way. For the average American who is satisfied with Taco Bell, this is probably a satisfying restaurant. This place will provide you with the usual Mexican staples (burritos, chimichangas, fajitas, and enchiladas) but little beyond that. They do an adequate job preparing these standards but are really missing their potential. Would I return to this restaurant? No. I am sure South Bend has better Mexican restaurants. One last thing I almost forgot. When I go to restaurants with a full bar, I often order a Coke with grenadine mixed in. I have done this countless times in the past. What made this experience different is when I received my bill, I noticed they charged an extra 50 cents for a tablespoon of grenadine. Was that really necessary?

Enjoyable Lunch

Met my daughter for lunch there this week. Service was very good and we ordered light lunch. She had one taco and I had cheese soup, both were very good. chips and sauce is always good, but blue cheese is best dip.

Not what it use to be

Service was slow only ordered 2 tacos and 2 mugs of margaritas, we went through 2 baskets of chips before food came and they weren't busy. The prices went up and tacos shrank, there was just ground ice no lime flavor or alcohol and they said alcohol prices went up and that also was reason for increased prices we left 2 in. ice in mugs. This was on National margarita day 2/22/2022.

Excellent!

So excited for a dine inexperience after Covid closings. We were driving through South Bend and chose Hacienda on Portage Ave. Our server was a snap, full of personality, and gave us great service! Chips and salsa were delicious and I asked for hotter salsa and he brought it in a jiffy. All of our entrees were very good. I highly recommend the quesadilla de la Casa! We were all very happy with our dinner experience!

Trash. Disgusting. Disappointing. Waste of money. Salsa for chips was nasty. Cheese sauce was hard. Meet was dry. Although the waitress was very nice.

When you visit South Bend, you have to make a stop at Hacienda. Add a side of ranch to your chips & salsa and mix the two sauces for pure deliciousness. Just do it, you won't regret it!

Chips and Tomato sauce

Possibly the worst Mexican place I've eaten at. The Salsa has no flavour, and is essentially a thick Tomato sauce. We ate less than half our meal and left disappointed.

Great food!

We have been going to Hacienda for years, and visit this location a lot. It is usually a little more quiet than the others during busy times. We almost always sit in the catina and never have to wait long for a table. Chips and salsa are my favorite, especially when you add their ranch! Entrees I recommend the wet burrito and fajita quesadillas.

Good Mexican food from a chain???

I have been meaning to write a review as I have eaten at this restaurant a few times. It is part of a growing chain in northern IN but their food taste as if it's a one location place. Good service, tasty food, they can offer it spicy too (and why wouldn't you with Mexican food!). Prices are reasonable. It is a casual place, not high end, so don't expect fine linens on the table but do expect great table side made guacamole!

My Favorite Place To Go

My wife and I have been stopping by this location since it opened. We stop by at least two times a week. Melvin is our favorite server and Erin is our favorite bartender. Alison, Kaylee, Lauri, and Kelsey also make visiting this location very relaxing for us also. They all spoil us each and every time we visit in their own way. My wife enjoys the food and I enjoy the Margaritas. Meltdown Margarita Special on Tuesday and my new Favorite drink "Pat Walsh".

Not worth the wait

Decided to go out for a late dinner, we arrived around 6:30 and it was about a 30 min wait for a table, however there were plenty of tables in the bar area but no one under 21 could go in there even if they were not sitting at the bar. That did not work for us because we had a teen with us. We ordered a margarita while we waited and took it into the lobby area while waiting for our table. The strawberry margarita was very tasty and I would recommend. Once our name was called and we were seated the service started out rocky but got better as the meal went on. As many have said the salsa is very different but we liked it. It was tangy with a kick. Husband had a taste for wings so we did a table side guac and buffalo wings. The guac was ok nothing special. The wings were horrible. They came out very dry and tasted like the were tossed in vinegar not buffalo sauce. They were so bad that he refused to eat them and he is not a picky eater. We also ordered steak chimichangas and beef chimichangas again nothing special and they were very dry. They were supposed to be covered in cheese sauce, for some reason they brought it on the side for both orders. The waitress had asked if we wanted sour cream and we said yes, didn't know that it was .75 extra each for what was equivalent to a 1-2 tablespoons, total waste. Not a good meal and we probably will not be back.
