Thought we would try this takeaway as suggested.. service was fast. The food was okay , if you are looking for greasy / deep fried this is the place. Once we took off all the batter the fish was good. We tried the snapper and John Dory. I ordered the prawn skrewer didn’t realize that it would be deep fried also. They don’t supply with you with napkins or forks etc. It was busy with lots of people stopping and ordering.. Tried it once won’t be a repeat visitor.

Nice takeaway food. Filled the hunger gap. Would go back again. It’s not award winning but was good and tasty. No complaints from me

Crispy batter. Two good size pieces of snapper for the price and generous serving of chips. Very prompt service.and even told how long it would be.

This is the second time this has happenned so I decided to advise others. Today I ordered snapper which they said was fresh, I paid $12.70 for what turned out to be hoki. The fillet was long and veinless and looked nothing like snapper. I know what snapper looks and tastes like. This is second time this same thing has happened.
Also the chips were cold and soft.
I'm surprised that in a small community like ngunguru a business would do this to a local. I won't be going back as there are other options. I paid $27.50 for hoki, cold chips an average hamburger with sausage meat patty not mince and an equally awful chewy cold battered sausage. I'm sure they keep their food in a warmer as I did not see anything deep fried.
Very poor food, and a ripboff to be quite blunt.

We knew it got busy here so phoned ahead and were told 30 minutes for our order which was fine. Turned up after the 30 minute wait and after 10 minutes trying to just get in the door were told they were only just cooking it now. So half an hour wait turned into an hour and a half. Not ideal with 2 hungry, tired kids. Honesty goes a long way - if the order was going to take over an hour I'd have rather been told that in the first place and waited at home or not gone ahead with the order and gone somewhere else

Super fresh, tasty and not soggy! Great chips, fish was fresh with a light batter. Temperature was perfect too. Great value and portion in the bay. Visited twice on our stay in the bay

We ordered hamburgers, battered snapper, hotdogs and chips to feed a large family group. The hamburger buns were very dry and hard, the battered fish was so oily you couldn't eat it , and really overcooked, the chips really dry. It was very disappointing takeaway.

We have been going to this place for the past 15 years, and it has always been good. But this last time we went, the fish was not good at all. It was overcooked and didn't taste fresh. The batter on the fish was okay, but it didn't make up for the taste, and the dry bits of fish. The kumara chips were alright, but now you have to pay for sour cream - whereas the last owners would always give you a swipe of sour cream that was included in the price. Should have been wary because it was lunchtime on the weekend and there was no line out the door. They may have new owners? Just a heads up - because it was always consistently good before.

I ordered battered mussels and scallops and they were disgusting! The seafood tasted old and the batter was burnt and some of the pieces of batter were empty ....
this would have to be the worst takeaway I have ever had.
Be warned - this place is crap.

Not sure why the hell anybody is complaining about wait times at peak holiday season in a remote area of NZ with minimal food facilities....we waited 10 minutes on a normal Friday night. Food was EXCELLENT. Shop made wontons were tasty as. Big salad filled cheeseburgers with cheese expertly melted onto the patty. Chips with perfect crisp/fluffy balance. Very friendly efficient staff. Highly recommended.

Bought 2 hotdogs and $8 chips.
Hotdogs were uncooked, batter was runny, chips were in a $6 size bag, was questioned about amount, given a few extra. Will never go back while these people work it.

Used to be our fav, but this time we both got sick after ordering snapper burger, kumara chips and squid rings. The aioli was super weird tasting too. Pity as it was a summer go to!

Came to visit friends we were looking forward to getting fish and chips as had been great in the past but man were we disappointed fish was dry and the batter extremely oily dripped all over us mussels were obviously from frozen and over cooked chips half were burnt and reheated. Most disgusting meal we have ever had never going back.
