Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Coffee always to satisfaction of my coffee loving friends, my tea is always spot on (loose leaf, extra pot of hot water). Always a good range of home made, delicious and satisfying savoury (soup, salads, burgers, wraps and rolls) and sweet offerings (cakes, scones and muffins) and beyond. Efficient, no fuss service - just what we need after a day or a few days hard exploring in the south west of Tassie, or moseying around Mt Field.

Just a beautiful cafe in Westerway. On the way to Russell Falls we discovered this gem. Limited menu but wraps were so good, the cheese board was 3 cheeses; a blue, cheddar and Brie -ask for bread (it will come as Turkish warm and butter). All Tasmanian and served at exactly the right temperature. Coffee was good but try their gourmet delights. I particularly loved the ambiance - a setting close by a rivulet; very quit and peaceful. Suitable for kids meals as well as adults. quick efficient service.

This is alovely cafe on the way to Russell Falls. It is in a delightful setting next to a stream and on nice days you can sit outside. Food was nice - wagu sausage roll was delicious and the hot chocolate perfect on a cold day. Decor is rustic and suits the location perfectly.

Tasty treat with welcoming staff & fantastic view. Delicious house-made scones with cream & locally produced jam. Topped off with a generous sized pot of tea for one 😊 Lovely flowing river setting across farming paddocks. Well worth the stop. Food: 2 x scones with cream & jam (AUD $7) Drink: pot of tea for one (AUD $4.50) Adheres to COVID-19 restrictions & very clean cafe.

You can eat inside or outside next to a gentle running river. It was wet the day I went but the place was full as it is on your way to Mt Field, a popular National Park in Tassie. The food servings are generous and cafe style ie: burgers, pita sandwiches, cakes, scones and cream etc. The staff are efficient with table service, especially as this cafe is so busy. It's also a lovely 50 minute drive from Hobart.

1 hr from Hobart CBD, The Possum Shed was the perfect morning tea stop on the way to the Mt Field National Park. Good coffee, fresh generous sized scones with lovely jam & cream accompanied by the sight & sound of the nearby stream. Attentive staff. Couldn't ask for more

I took my new step daughter’s Chinese parents to Russell Falls National Park last weekend and stopped into the Possum Shed at Westerway after picking the berries at the nearby raspberry farm. At about 2.00pm in the afternoon I walked up to the counter and was told the kitchen was closed and that there were limited options leftover to eat. I asked what they were and was told by the older woman there wasn’t anything we would like. I said we might as well leave then, to which the response was .. good. At that point I let it be known that I would be contacting tourism tasmania regarding the racially provocative smart arse attitude. We all left .. fortunately my Chinese guests coukd not speak English nor understand what had just played out. We went down the road to Salmon Ponds and were treated like royalty. The Possum Shed management needs to wake up to itself .. just disgusting.

Beautiful morning tea out alongside the river. We came for the platypus however unfortunately no luck this time. The scones with local raspberry jam were divine, along with our coffee and hot chocolates. Great service and an excellent stop

We stopped for lunch in this quirky cafe right on the river at Westaway. Service was very good, our Turkish toasted sandwiches were delicious with plentiful fillings & served with a fresh salad on the side. Coffee was excellent & hot chocolate luscious. Happy to recommend it.

We have been coming to Possum Shed cafe for about 3 and 1/2 years. Our daughter and fiancé live and work in TAS. In Summer 🌺 , or Autumn 🍂 or ❄️ Winter, Possum Shed is always a favourite. Excellent meals, snacks and treats; always consistently delicious, home cooked and beautifully presented. Coffees and teas and milkshakes and cool drinks are always lovely. Staff and owners know us well, and have always been super friendly and polite and obliging. Vegetarian and vegan preferences are well catered for and everything is freshly cooked and of the highest quality. Freshly baked warm scones with raspberry jam and cream are our favourites (along with cakes, wraps and sourdough toasted sandwiches)

Fantastic location next to the river . It was very relaxing listening to the water bubbling over the rocks. Wonderful food very generous portions . The staff were very friendly and it was reassuring to see all the tables and chairs were disinfectant after each customer left. I have no hesitation in recommending this a must stop on the way to Russell falls. Only problem was a few persistent wasps hovering around .

We stayed quite near this little cafe so stopped for lunch after a big morning of walking. Very friendly staff and great pancakes and soup. Great coffee too. Unfortunately I went outside to try and see the resident platypus but no luck. Nice outside area but too cold this day to sit out there surrounded by lovely gardens. Would recommend stopping here for a meal if in the area. There is not much else around unfortunately.

We had expected to find a place to eat much earlier in the day without any luck. When we happened upon this place while driving to Mount Field National park. There were a few cars out front and we really were starving. The place was really quaint and we liked it instantly. Our waitress was very helpful in assisting us with our meal. I got a giant burger with a ginger beer. There is indoor seating as well as an screened in area and an outdoor section. We opted for indoors since it was a little cool for outside for us. There were some prints and other neat things to look at on the walls. We REALLY enjoyed our food and would definitely eat here again if given the opportunity!

A cosy warm place for lunch. We sat outside on the edge of the river and all four of us had delicious food. (Mine was the best - zucchini soup!!) Lovely friendly staff; so nice to be greeted with big smiles and cheery chat

Perfect stop on the way to the Mt Field National Park and Russell Falls. It was cold and rainy so we couldn't take advantage of the opportunity to sit outside and watch the river, but in any case, the coffee was excellent, the food delicious, and the service just great. Friendly people, lovely atmosphere, everything just right.
