Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awesome place with stunning scenery and epic pizzas! There is a really cool massive floor to ceiling window so even in bad weather you could feel like you’re outdoors. Big table tops made of local wood and plenty of outdoor seating. Multiple pizza sizes and flavours freshly made and a very tempting dessert cabinet. Other freshly made items like omelette on the menu. They have their own coffee and there is also wine and beer ….. what’s more to say?! 500m up the road there is a waterfall walk that you can do - just ask them about it! You can also stay the night if you want to explore the amazing scenery some more. Oh and some caves to explore! Check out their website to see what you can do around the area. We drive from Hamilton and was totally worth the trip for the cafe alone - you could make a full day trip of it though with time at the cafe, the walks, the cave etc. Can’t recommend enough and we will be back soon :)

Nikau cafe has been one of our favourite spots in the area since first visit. It's rested amongst the beautiful limestone formation and a stream. Plenty of outdoor tables spread out several tiers, that you feel like you have the whole place to yourself even when it's busy. We couldn't resist the pizza each time. Delicious homemade and fresh ingredients with nicely balanced flavours. Generous servings too. Paired with an ice coffee and their delicious house lemonade 👌 Definitely come for a visit.

The food here is brilliant. We thoroughly enjoyed a couple of delicious pizzas while waiting for our tour of the Nikau Caves to commence. The Venison salami pizza was my favourite, and definitley worth trying. We enjoyed sitting out by the lovely, picuresque stream that runs past the cafe. The staff is friendly and this place really is an amazing oasis of pleasure. Thoroughly recommended.

We went for a visit for afternoon drinks and food. The service was awesome and personal! The pizzas were home made and you could tell that. Try the smoked salmon pizza and the salami pizza! Yummy! The location was so peaceful and relaxing! Somewhere to take the family for a lovely lazy afternoon. Thanks Phillip and Anne!

Stayed overnight, Had lunch, dinner and breakfast. Great food and coffee. Anne Philip and Sue very friendly and welcoming. Excellent hosts. The Apartment room was very comfortable, tranquil and great views of the hills. Very popular for such an out of the way place, which says a lot.

Lovely people, lovely food, comfy bed. Will be back!!! Stayed overnight before visiting nearby Thundercross Moto cross park. Had a superb pizza for dinner with amazing chocolate and zucchini cake. Philip and Anne are truely lovely people and Philip has hilarious anecdotes about shearing all over the world. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Underwhelming food! Friends talked this place up and we felt very let down by their food. Price is up there for what we got. We didn’t visit the caves as it was raining very heavy. Cafe is in a lovey setting and staff are very pleasant.

My family and I booked in here to have a wee looksy in the cave. What an awesome experience, however be prepared to get wet as you have to walk through water. You will have a 20meter hands and knees crawl through a tight spot so if your a bigger person you may get stuck. The cafe food and service was also very good. Highly recommended.

You are always assured friendly service and good food here. It’s a smallish menu but all home made and often home grown too using fresh ingredients from the garden. Lovely setting within Waikato farming country. Bush walks on the doorstep and an excellent caving trip if you are more adventurous

My friend and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at the cafe set in the most beautiful surroundings. The food was very nice as well as the coffee. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch. The cafe was quite busy but our coffee and lunch was served in a reasonable time. Good prices and friendly staff.
