Pain Quotidian is my favorite “fast food” place. Aside from fabulous baked goods, salads and the tartines (open faced sandwiches) are so good. You can enjoy it with a glass of wine. Love it.

Stopped in to pick up a pastry. Had the apple turnover and the pasty was light and airy. Best I've had in a long time. Definitely going back during this trip to Chicago to try something else.
This is a place to come for good soups, salads, and sandwiches. I had a warm grain salad which I really enjoyed. My friends had gazpacho, and other salads. Washed down with some wine, I recommend trying out this restaurant.
LPQ never disappoints. Food is fresh, delicious and always served with a smile. Servers are well trained, professional. Takeout is always consistently good. I give LPQ gift cards because their food is above and beyond—makes a great gift for a newbie or for someone who...has already been entranced by the experience. Food is pricey but high quality and locally sourced. Yum!More
Paris Ham & Wisconsin Gruyère Croissant with a Sunny Side Egg was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had! The coffee was served in a small bowl, thanks hipsters for making that trend cool... Overall, delicious!
Stopped in for a light lunch around 1:30, restaurant almost empty with 2 wait staff personnel and one person standing doing nothing behind the pastry counter. Obviously the wait staff not happy with each other and what they were doing. Tables were stacked with dirty...dishes and glassware we had to wait 10 minutes till a table was cleared for us with no one in the restaurant. The menu is very limited and very pricey for what one is served. My husband ordered a waffle which was about he size of a half dollar, I had a ham and cheese on a burned croissant neither meal was worth the price paid. Our waiter was running around in circles, very frustrated and telling us he was leaving at 2:45 because he had to pick up his daughter from school. WE could hardly wait to finish and leave. Not sure how this place stays in business!More

Have been to this restaurant twice. Odd system to order. Everything goes through a computer system. I have seen this in dinner restaurants that work efficiently. For a breakfast/brunch spot not so much. The servers are skimpy. You get only what you order...meaning if you...need an extra pat of butter, coffee cream or jam they must submit through the computer system. You then wait , until your food is cold, to obtain said item. Also, multiple wait staff and it appears certain servers can only do certain things..like get the jam. Very confusing and frustrating. Wait staff attitude was very unpleasant. Felt like they were put out and doing you a favor for any additional requests. Felt like it was a privilege to be seated for brunch/lunch. This is not what I need on a Saturday or Sunday for a brunch experience. This is not high tea at the Peninsula Hotel! Get over it! I would never go back and prefer local neighborhood restaurants for hearty, delicious, breakfast/lunch with warm, friendly service. Try Cornerstone on Webster and Clybourne. Great food, nice folks. Casual atmosphere.More

Of the 3 dishes we ordered, we had problems with 2: Lebanese salad had an exaggerated amount of vinegar which overpowered all the well-assorted vegetables, and a gluten free egg dish was served with regular bread, they brought only one slice of gluten free bread...when we had nearly finished the food.More

PROS: You may like LPQ or not, but this site is a very special venue. The corner building with high windows secures wondeful light, especially in the bar area. Furnitures, details are truly appealing, you can enjoy high quality time. Food was superlative, for its...category. The bakery never fails -very good taste. CONS: the brunch/restaurant area is very loud. I think they should do something, at least on the ceiling, to dump noise. the guys at the bar are not all kind, to say the least. Actually, one out of 4 I spoke to was kind. They don't clearly explain that if you eat there, you only will be served in lunch package made to-go. The latter are actually well done -a truly fine idea for pic-nic or take home, but being served at such a beautiful bar in paper boxes spoils your experience a bit. Conclusion: this is a wonderful bar/restaurant thanks to the very architecture of the building that hosts it. I suggest you eat in the restaurant your brunch and then have tea and sweets in the bar, letting time pass.More

Lincoln Park's LPQ is an above-average version of this popular meetup spot. We enjoyed breakfast and conversation here on a fine spring morning in April before strolling the neighborhood shops. A 3-minute walk from the Armitage Station so you can get here from anywhere!
Thanks for dining with us at our Lincoln Park Le Pain Quotidien. See you next time!
LPQ is a casual dining restaurant chain with a genuine feeling of authenticity. From its beginning in Brussels to over 200 shops worldwide, this chef-driven (Alain Coumont) café offers healthy, light fare as served in Europe. The warm brick and wood interior focuses on a...long communal table. Free Wi-Fi and comfy chairs encourage hanging around. Breakfast and brunch are featured with many organic and vegan items including daily-baked bread and pastries, fresh fruits, greens and vegetables, house jams and mustards, coffee and tea served in bowls (no handles) and some of the loveliest soft-boiled eggs we’ve ever seen. Selected beer and wines are available for afternoon or early evening meals (open until 8p). Our late lunch consisted of chicken soup and tartines (open-face Belgium sandwiches); smoked salmon (which was excellent), chicken curry and Paris ham and cheddar. The presentation was above average with fresh garnishes, chutneys and mustards. Service (Jordan P) was cheery, prompt and everything was very good. Enjoyable as it was, the experience is a bit pricey though this shouldn’t be a surprise as the prices are clearly marked on the menu. Our lunch which also included a soft-boiled egg and coffee and tea for three came to $78.00 before gratuity. Those who compare LPQ to Panera are missing the point. LPQ offers a unique dining experience. What the French call “a little elegance in our daily lives”. Like all special things, they generally are indulged in occasionally.More

My daughter and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast in this lovely, casual atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive. The coffee was a little pricey but really good and our server willingly refilled our pots without us asking. We will definitely return on our next...visit.More
Looking forward to having you and your daugther back in again for breakfast. See you next time!
I went for breakfast Sunday morning and was disappointed to find out they were out of chai tea and one of their new pastries (cinnamon croissant roll). I had the ham and gruyere cheese croissant-which was fine but I think the cheese could have been...melted more. The sandwich was nearly cold. The salad served with it, was just ok too. The drinks (coffee and tea) are served in bowls, so not a mug with a handle. That was a bit awkward when you are trying to drink you hot beverage but not scald yourself. The location and atmosphere were great though.More

Enjoyed a fantastic breakfast here with my son with a healthy menu, excellent coffee beverages, and solid service.
I enjoyed my chicken salad open face sandwich with chutney today. I thought it was overpriced at $13.95, but okay, the atmosphere was nice and the service excellent. But the coffee! I ordered "a cup" without taking time to find the price on the menu....Was the price even there? The "cup" arrived - no handle - along with a pot of coffee, enough for two cups. Did I order "a cup" or not? Yes, I ordered a cup, and in most restaurants, the refill is free. This "cup" cost $4! I call that way overpriced. My friend ordered iced tea and that was also overpriced at $3.75. Yikes! This is not a fancy, upscale restaurant. It's nice, but I certainly feel ripped off by the coffee service. I probably won't go back.More
We are sorry to hear about your disappointment with your coffee experience. Sorry for any confusion - we do offer free refills and serve our coffee in traditional coffee bowls so you can wrap your hands around the bowl and warm you up! Bianca W
