A delicious birthday dinner. Restaurant is not too loud, but is intimate and delicious and service was attentive and kind. High quality food and a wonderful evening.

Made a reservation way in advance and they tried to pawn off the worst table in the restaurant when we arrived (as we were 2 women). We waited an additional 30 minutes for another table in the back room. Very little ambience. I’m always put...off when there is a charge for bread, especially at a steak house. We had steak tartare to start, which was good. Cocktails were mediocre and truly a measured pour. The chicken dish was very good, filet quality was fair, sides of French fries were done well but the creamed spinach was teeny with little flavor. Truly a disappointment, especially compared to their Vegas location. There are much better steakhouse choices in Chicago.More
Dear Karyn, I'm so sorry to hear of your recent less than acceptable experience with us. Our leadership team wants to acknowledge your feedback and make sure your next experience with us is nothing less than memorable. Would you be willing to provide your contact...More
We went here the week prior to Christmas with extended family. (4 adults, 3 kids) The menu features classic French Country fare: steak fritte, French onion soup, escargot, fillet, salads, and beef bourguignon. Steaks can be topped with classic French sauces if preferred. The full...bar offers a mix of classic and creative options including a variety of French wines.More
Charming French bistro decor, good food. they know how to not overcook eggs; not a tinge of brown on the omelette. The truffle eggs don't work; the chewy bits of truffle overwhelm the delicate softness of the eggs, and their flavor as well. Melted brie...is very good, though the baguette over-toasted (too dry). Our server was great; knows her menu, gives good advice.More
Hi there, Thank you for telling us about your recent experience at Mon Ami Gabi. I am sorry to hear the truffle eggs were disappointing - we hope to set things right. Please email kgibson@leye.com with your contact information and we will put you in...More
Our daughter's rehearsal dinner was held here and I can't speak highly enough of the service, the food, the drink, the atmosphere. During our cocktail hour the electricity went out due to high winds in the area. The staff at Mon Ami Gabi didn't miss...a beat with providing more candles for light and continuing our cocktail hour. When it was evident that the electricity would not be restored in a reasonable amount of time, the manager arranged for us to finish our meal at one of their sister restaurants. It was like a progressive dinner! The amount of professionalism and customer service was impeccable. Thank you for all you did to make sure this rehearsal dinner was a huge success and one to be remembered. We will return on our next trip to Chicago and we will recommend highly to all of our friends,More
We are two older women who eat out constantly but hadn’t been to this neighborhood legend for at least 5 years. It was a lovely autumn night and we had no reservation. But the hostess worked hard to find us a table which was difficult...even on a Monday night. The food was decent but our waiter basically could’ve cared less about us. We were invisible to him. Nothing major, just other tables being served first and getting his attention which we had to call for for service, the bill, etc. to him, we were truly invisible and won’t be back. So many other good city choices that value women dining together.More

Hard to taste the food and hear conversation while in the middle of a construction zone of the Belden Stratford.
The absolute worst steak Frites cold food the duck confit was horrible and the French onion soup was a joke and I spent $100 +15% tip I will never order from them again what a disgusting meal
My wife, Heather and I had been to Mon Ami Gabi in Las Vegas a couple of years ago and were so impressed she insisted we go again while in Chicago. I'm so glad we did. We ended up ordering the same dishes as our...Las Vegas dinner just because they were so good the first time. We started with escargot and goat cheese appetizers, paired with their reasonably priced Bordeaux by the glass. As we were polishing off the last delicious morsels, Heather said, "I could tab out right now and be completely satisfied." We split the Beef Bourguignon as our main course. Everything was cooked to perfection as it was in Las Vegas. Every bite a masterpiece with noodles perfectly firm, beef falling apart at the slightest touch, and mushrooms sautéed masterfully. The Creme Brule topped the meal off paired with a 10-year Tawny. The room was packed with happy patrons, but the atmosphere wasn't overly noisy. Our server, Michah (spelling?), was a jolly soul who made us smile everything he visited us. The service was timed well without ever feeling hovered over. Mon Ami Gabi is officially a go-to for Heathrr and I whenever we come close to any of if their four locations in the US. Bon Apatite!More
We went for the Restaurant Week menu and it was fantastic... including a drink and 3 course meal. The Steak Frites were superb and dessert was to die for! Service was excellent with numerous staff helping out.
My travel partner and I were seated in the back room - I appreciated a table out of the fray so we could visit better. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, attentive and had a good sense of humor. I had a glass of Pinot Blanc...which was very good. We split the scallop appetizer which was not that expensive given the food costs of scallops these days. My partner had steak - perfectly done medium rare. My short rib was high on meat and low on fat - deliciously complimented by the celery root puree and squash. All delicious even if the hot baguette is not complimentary. We will be back!More
We went with our 3 kids (teens). We ordered trout, mussels, salmon, roast chicken and caeser salad. Mussels and trout were by far the favorite, but all were delicious and portion sizes were huge. French Onion soup is large, easily shared with 2-3 people. I...had the house Pinot Noir, meh. I wouldn't get it again. You only have 2 wine options (per variety) if ordering by the glass, that was a disappointment. Service was fantastic, from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, every employee was really well trained and pleasant. It is an expensive/high end restaurant, but we were comfortable in jeans. I loved that :-) Be sure to make reservationsMore
We've been coming to Mon Ami Gabi and its predecessor Un Grand Cafe for decades. I'm happy to report that while some things change (the bread, sweet butter and shredded carrot you pay $1.95 for used to be complimentary, for instance, and specials stay on...the menu for a week rather than rotating nightly), mostly it's the same high quality, good service and good, simple French bistro fare. Tables seem farther apart than they used to be (a good thing). The menu is smaller, due to staffing issues (a shame); our waiter said they can't staff someone to prepare a "cold table" so currently don't offer raw oysters, shrimp cocktail and other seafood items as they used to. But everything we ate from the frisee salad with poached egg and lardons of bacon, to the garlicky escargots, to steak frites to the famous profiteroles were excellent. Our server was both chatty and competent. Food came very promptly after it was ordered and was served hot. We felt well looked-after. We were thanked for coming. It was, as usual, a very pleasant evening out at a neighborhood gem.More
Mon Ami Gabe was recommended by a Chicago friend who was leading the professional conference that I was attending from North Carolina. We were completely delighted with the ambiance, service and cuisine at Mon Ami Gabe. Our server was welcoming and attentive throughout. My spouse...complimented the Cosmo, as I did my glass of Sancerre. Our entrees, the mussels mariniere and seared salmon, were perfect. We left well satisfied and vowing to return on our next visit to Chicago. We highly recommend Mon Ami Gabe.More
This restaurant is located in one of the neighborhoods - Lincoln Park - in an old building. It is a bit cramped inside - lots of tables close together - and has a noise level. The French bread loaf was poor at the beginning of...the meal. OK, now. Forget all that. You came here for the food and the food is sensational. In a word, sensational. Eric our professional waiter lead us to amazing choices. My dover sole, the monthly special was perfection. (Reserve your dover sole early as we were told that it sells out.) We each had a Greek salad -again perfection. Huge chunk of feta. Huge. My wife's steak was superb, perfectly med-rare. Hat's off to Eric. Hats off to the chefs. This restaurant deserves its wonderful reputation.More
