My wife and I stopped for lunch at SGGR2 in Islamorada after an appointment in Travernier. The location is found in a very busy marina so the scenery is both interesting and entertaining as a variety of vessels come and go.
The lunch menu was varied with an assortment of seafood, poultry, and beef dishes. Pam chose the local fish (Mahi) sandwich while the filet mignon sliders caught my eye. Both choices were served with spicey slaw and we split an order of sweet potato fries. Both were cooked and served by a very efficient waitress.
While a coke and ice tea were our selected liquid refreshments, the bar offers wine, beer, and mixed cocktails. The meals, as always at the Square Grouper, were pure perfection, they were simple but superb.
For both locals and those visiting the Keys, this is an emporium that will leave you more than satisfied at a moderate price.

Ever since it’s recent opening, Square Grouper is one of our favorite restaurants to have a nice meal after a long work week. The outdoor seating is beautiful but the indoor seating is just as gorgeous as the decor is well done.
They have a full service bar, daily specials, lunch and dinner and brunch on the weekends.
They have vegan and vegetarian options as well. We love their roasted cauliflower appetizer, the rice bowls and the desert list. 🤤 They also have a great kids menu and my seven year old son loves to go here.
They currently don’t take reservations but if you come before or after dinner rush on the weekends, you won’t have a long wait. There also is not a long wait if you come for lunch. They will serve you drinks while you wait for a table at the seats by the water.
Best spot in Islamorada, even better than the highly over priced Pierre’s up the road! (I got a similar cauliflower dish at Pierre’s for double the price and Square Grouper’s dish was far superior).

The Filet Mignon was great and aged perfect . Robert our sever was over the top , never an empty water glass or empty plate on the table. This is a new place from what I've heard , but if they don't change anything it will fast become one of those must stop at while we're in the key's places like my fav The Fish House . Just don't fix it cause it ain't broke !!

We have tried over the years to get into the original Square Grouper only to be turned away due to the crowds. I should qualify that and say we decided we didn't want to wait for 45 minutes to eat and left of our own accord.
When we heard there was a second location in Islamorada we placed that stop on our bucket list.
Located in a busy marina, #2 is fast paced, crowded and a bit noisey. At the same time, it gives you plenty of marina action to watch and the wait staff was up to the challenge. We found the staff to be ever observant and the kitchen staff able to produce meals in a very timely manner.
Both of us decided to go with the signature sandwich, the Square Grouper. It was a very wise choice on our part. The Grouper is a delicious dish in itself and their presentation simply enhanced an already delicious meal.
All told, this was a smart choice on our part. I wouldn't suggest any improvement to this well oiled machine. I'll be back again and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Many wonderful restaurants in the Keys, but this one was our best meal. Very attentive wait staff, love the "3 joints are better than 1" theme (this is the 3rd location for this restaurant). Hubby ordered from the daily specials and was blown away. I had a grouper sandwich and it was very yummy, with sides included it was a ton of food.

We arrived at the Square Grouper at about 1:30 PM. We were greeted, seated, and waited on promptly. We sat on the deck outside, which was pleasant. While we waited for our food to arrive, we watched the goings on in the boatyard & marina. We chose a couple of draft beers off the daily beer list ($7 & $8). We both ordered the fried catch of the day sandwich ($18). It includes a toasted bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a small serving of cole slaw. The sandwich comes with a side. The shoestring fries were a large portion and were crispy, though not piping hot. The fish of the day was yellowtail snapper, and it was a perfectly fried crispy, brown piece of fish. For good local fish, well prepared, served by pleasant folks in a “keysey” atmosphere, check out the Square Grouper’s Islamorada location.

This restaurant was within walking distance of our resort, but well worth a drive. The food is not only fresh but very well prepared. They clearly take pride in not only the menu but the entire dining experience. We ate here three times during our visit. The farmer's salad was big enough for two and we enjoyed several of the fish dishes. The wait staff was both friendly and professional. Don't miss going out to see the manatees after your meal if you go for lunch.

I gave one star because zero was not an option. A large group of us had dinner on August 28 at the Islamorada location. Our server was Katie who was very professional and polite. We commented to Sam the manager on how great she was he said he was responsible for making the higher we congratulated him. Grace at the gift shop was also very kind to us and we ended up spending over $500 there. On September 5 when we returned home I realized I had purchased the wrong size shirt called Sam let him know that I was mailing it back. He agreed toMail the correct size back. I emailed a copy of the shipping receipt and have called countless times and had emailed countless times with no reply. How disappointing and lack of professionalism and follow up. Too many great options in the keys to go back here

My husband had the best seafood bowl over jasmine rice. I got the seafood stew which was also wonderful, full of seafood. I got the small size and that was perfect after splitting the crab cake appetizer.
Note to management: after several polite questions from a few of us at the table who were new to this restaurant, our server refused to give recommendations saying that “he’s eaten everything on the menu and everything he’s had is great”. When i tried to ask what he’d eaten recently or what was most popular , again he said, “to be honest, i just cant do that” and everything is great—he was annoyed. A server should be able to rattle off a couple of the highlights or more popular dishes fir us newbies on vacation. The dining experience is about feeling amazing about what you’re about to eat and getting excited for it. He was more concerned about himself than just answering a very simple question, acting like that was too much trouble. Im sure you get asked that a lot but thats you’re job as a server. (I know, because I’ve been in food service too. )
Anyway, the food was good and Im not going to give you guys a low mark bc of one person.

I don't eat atmosphere but they got it right! Back deck will get you a view of the sunset and inside they did a great job on renovations. The food is second to none. The prices are competitive with Lazzy Days and The Green Turtle. The food is far superior. The staff is young and energetic. My friends said the wine list was very nice but a little pricey. Yellow tail and hog fish was available and prepared several ways. There is ample parking, no small thing in The Key's!

We had a large group (11) go for dinner one night last week, and four of us went back the next night (the rest had left the Keys). We had great service, from three waiters and waitresses. The food was delicious, but it was the shrimp we couldn't get enough of! I think we had six orders? This is an awesome place to eat.

The best filet mignon sliders you’ll ever have!! The service was spot on for a hot day, waters refilled without asking, umbrellas adjusted....just right. Food came out in a timely manner, waitress was knowledgeable about the menu. Did I mention best filet mignon sliders ever

Me + 2 others stopped by on Sunday night to find a wait time of 90 minutes, we were set on eating here so we waited. The hostess Angelica was super helpful once my phone died and we needed to give another contact and the MOD even took our drink order while we waited since the bar was full. Once we sat it was worth the wait our server was great and paced the food out perfectly, she got the home run when she suggested the spicy peach martini - YUM! Also the goat cheese with dates is to die for :-D

Square Grouper was the best overall dining experience we had in The Keys. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was outstanding, the food was delicious! I had the quinoa salad with the catch of the day which was yellow fin snapper- blackened. It was cooked perfectly! Everything our party of 8 had was delicious. My teenager said the chicken sandwich was the best she had ever had. The Key Lime pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie were delicious!
On another note, both of my kids have but allergies and many of their menu items have nuts. I made the server aware and she said she would let the kitchen know and seemed to be very familiar with what to do. We had no issues.

This restaurant does not take reservations so unless you don’t mind waiting 1-2 hours, get there between 4:30 and 4:45 PM. There were 40 people in line by 5:00. We were there early and got a great table with a view of the water. This is an upscale environment compared to most options in the area. The piccata grouper was a favorite and the Mac and cheese had huge chunks of lobster. The kids dinner was disappointing so much that we complained to the waitress about the grilled cheese sandwiches. It was made with different cheese that the kids wouldn’t eat. The waitress didn’t seem surprised about the complaint. The key lime pie was the best we have had as we order it at every restaurant!
