Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Atticus Bookstore & Cafe has been a New Haven fixture for years. After class, during a shopping trip, or before a Yale Rep performance, you can't go wrong at Atticus when you want high-quality light fare. Good selection, great (and quick) service, Atticus's standards continue to hold up as control shifts from father to son. Check out the menu, try the black bean soup, then browse the Staff Picks in the bookstore and buy something to read that you wouldn't have thought of yourself!

Based on the recommendation from the front desk staff att The Graduate, for a nearby place for breakfast, I went to Atticus. You will not be disappointed! Thank you Graduate! I had a chocolate/almond croissant and a bun topped with tomatoes, cheese, and other tasty ingredients. I returned the next day for croissants and hot tea. Everything was fresh and tasty! A must visit in New Haven!

Located on a well traveled street, this fresh and tasty book and cafe place hits the spot while shopping nearby. Croissants are flakey and fresh. Great variety of eclectic greeting cards in the book section.

We have come to this location many times. However, the food is questionably prepared. Workers behind the counter were picking on things, eating, while preparing food for customers. Many health & safety no-nos. This place needs a change in management. For sure. Service also needs improvement. The sandwich we had was ok.

I love this gem of a cafe and bookstore! The food is delicious. But PLEASE, Yale kids, be courteous and move to the library with your lap top! EVERY table was being used by only ONE person, even a table for 4 was completely taken over by one student and her laptop. How can a person order soup and a sandwhich with no place to sit? Atticus.. give these kids a time limit!

I highly recommend this independent bookstore over any run-of-the-mill evil empire corporate chain for your literature needs. Please allow me to share my experience. As I entered the place I instantly noticed an amazing, unique selection of books. Then I noticed how the staff interacts with the visitors and " T " the manager. I spoke to T and immediately felt like I was in a comfortable environment. T is intelligent, understanding, and caring. As for the cafe, the pastries are delicious and the tea is excellent. This place is definitely worth visiting.

Nice local bookstorm coffee shop outside of the Yale University. Went in for quick coffee and a bite to eat before a self guided tour. I enjoyed my chai, my wife her coffee, and my son his breakfast sandwich. We walked around the store and enjoyed the esthetic and the staff recommendations, would recommend for a good book and a good coffee.

I had some time to kill while my wife ran some errands before we went to the YCBA. I have been to Atticus many times. The food is wonderful, but alas today there were no seats available. I browsed the stacks thinking something might open up, but no. So I left with some good reading material. It has a real vibe.

The baked goods are well done, and the food is good. The books are ... books. It isn't a bad place to spend some time, but it isn't spectacular, either. I enjoyed the food and bought a couple of books, but I wouldn't call this place all that distinguishable from comparable little bookstore cafes across the country. Probably the best in the area, though.

We loved having a relaxed place to sit on a cold saturday. There ate plenty of tables. We didn’t use Wi-Fi and didn’t need to charge a plug so unsure about the availability of electrical outlets. The coffee was excellent. The prices were reasonable. We also purchased a couple of items on the bookstore. The selection was outstanding.

I couldn’t love this little bookstore more, and I drop in every time I visit New Haven. I love browsing the shelves, and the cafe has nice coffee and food.

I've been going to Atticus Bookstore since I was ten. Their baked goods have always been scrumptious and unique. Still going strong - I ran in for their new takeaway experience when I was in town. I shared some of their pastries - kougin amann, guava and cream cheese turnover - with a friend. 'Where is this place? What are these called? I'm going back there!' Later, for dinner, I had a caprese sandwich they'd made. The softest, finest mozzarella, generously dressed with greens and beefsteak tomatoes, on artisanal semolina-sesame bread. -happy sigh-

Excellent staff. Excellent selection in this smallish bookstore cafe. We’ve eaten at the cafe in the past and it is very good for coffees and sandwiches. The bookstore is old school and fun.

Fast, delicious and a must every trip we take to visit our student in New Haven. Their smoked salmon is great...and their breakfast sandwich is perfection. Plus, there are books to shop for too!

Atticus is a bookstore/café that has been in the same spot since ever. Have a nice salad, some tea, meet your friends, and watch life pass by in New Haven's coolest street. Great selection of books.
