This place has been refurbished and now looks like a proper restaurant. Not sure if new owners ??Been here twice before renovations when it was a rickety type cafe, and twice thought I would not go back due to the rudeness of staff who would not let us sit inside, had to take our coffees outside and it was lashing rain, also food was nothing special, only went there en route around the island on walk. So, this time around the service was great as was all 4 of our starters. Amazing views. The flat iron steaks were bit cold and had to eat the broccoli and carrots first or they would have been stone cold, it was not a big meal for £25 per steak. Steaks were on the small side. We all agreed it was a nice enough meal but way too expensive for what we had.

Normally we would get off the ferry from Largs, turn left and drive the short distance to Millport. This year we turned right and went the long way round, looking at the views across the sea to the east and then the west. Suddenly a cafe appeared with tables indoors and across the road outside. Staff were courteous and efficient in explaining what was available including gluten free options. We had a very enjoyable meal, eaten at one of the outdoor tables with beautiful views towards Bute and, further away, Kintyre and Arran plus a few seabirds close by. This review would obviously be different if it had been raining but then most people won't choose a wet day to visit Cumbrae.

We cycled around Great Cumbrae during the day, and stopped at Fintry Bay for a quick lunch. Superb Nachos, milkshakes, ice cream, miso bowls and sandwiches at the kiosk. Jon and family were wonderful, helpful hosts. We came back the same evening for dinner and had fine dining in the family and dog friendly restaurant - I had the blackpudding and crispy hens egg - superb, while my son and wife had the equally superb tempura prawns and scallops for starters. For main, I had the Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb, while my son and wife had the crab linguine and Cod (which had the best rice we have ever tasted with it - a thai coconut sticky rice which was light and delicious) respectively. Brownie and a couple of afragattos finished a perfect meal. Service was happy and rapid and Bev and John and kids kept the place running on rails. Most definitely will be back.

Doing a cycle with a large group of children and adults and we decided to stop at the cafe for lunch. The plan was to eat our packed lunches and purchase coffees and ice creams for the whole party. A member of staff who I'm assuming was the anger approached a few of the.tables where children, young children, parents, grandparents etc were sitting and we were told that we had to move as we could not eat our own food on the premises which I understand however I do feel some common sense would have been appropriate as it was very quiet at this time and we weren't causing any hassle but no. The manager insisted we leave and wouldn't even let us sit on the grass beside the tables! A few of us tried to compromise with the manager but eventually he began to get very worked up and bordered on rude so approximately 40 of us moved on across the street. Just like to say well done to the manager for his total lack of common sense and inability to take questions or constructive criticism. He also lost out on a lot of business as we were planning to purchase hot drinks and ice creams for all. We will be back on the island as a group and as individual families and we will be avoiding Fintry Bay Cafe at all costs.

Great place to stop, great menu for hot and cold food. Loads of different flavours of ice cream also available. Food is reasonably priced. Staff very helpful and inside and outside eating areas are spotless. Nice views across the Clyde. Great stop halfway round the island.

This place has the potential to be fantastic, great location, friendly and attentive staff, quirky interior and excellent outdoor facilities. Having got all that right the owners should now look forward to the new tourist season by changing the oil in their fryers. Not exactly rancid but tasted ‘funny’ as did the toasties and I suspect were brushed with the same ‘substance’ occupying the fryers before going on a hot plate. Not great. Didn’t bother highlighting it and just left.

Me and my friend stopped there, wanted to have something to eat. It was 20mins before 5pm we were ringing the bell (which left for the guests to give a sign for the staff )for ages at the coffe shop Eventually a child who let a dog inside told us they might open at 5pm, but not sure. We thought the place was appealing with the beautiful view therefore went for a short walk to the beach and came back by 5pm. The door was open, music was on, but the entrance was blocked with a belt at 5pm. We stood there at the door with belt patiently waiting 10mins!! for someone to approach us while staff saw us several times, they were walking up and down looking out at us in the restaurant. We thought it was a joke!! Nobody even bothered to come and tell us at least that they running late or something???!! As we lost patience my friend shouted in “excuse me”, can we eat in this restaurat? A staff member came to us with an attitude it is not a place to eat or something and said you need to book in advance. Anyway there was no sign on the internet, we HAVE TO BOOK IN ADVANCE. We had to ask her, almost instruct her to go and find out if we could have a seat and order some food without a booking!? Came back and said we can until the first guest arriwes. We went in sat down but by that point none of us were very hopeful.. As got closer to the table noticed that the surface was covered in doghair!!! almost if you would wipe the table off with a dog!! Lots of hair..and the chair was covered too. Staff saw that my friend was wiping away the hair with her hand, said nothing. I like dogs but their hair all over was too much. We said good bye and just left. Shame, because the location, the view and even the restaurant looked stylish and nice.. just need an owner and/or a full staff change.

Today’s lunch at Fintry Bay ‘Restaurant’. First we were told that we couldn’t order from the restaurant menu inside and eat outside. There was no obvious way of getting my Mum’s wheelchair inside. At the outside serving window we were told there were no fillings for their ‘Filled Baguettes’ so opted for the sublimely presented ‘Hot Dog’, ‘Americano’ and a portion of chips for the princely sum of £11.25. Had to ask for ketchup as the only bottle visible was empty. The chap I assume was the owner had an air of ‘can’t be arsed’ probably more important to make sure their convertible advert was parked blocking the only dropped kerb making wheelchair access more difficult #whydotheybother #wontbeback #inconsiderate

Had to ask after waiting a while if we were to seat ourselves or wait. Got a table. Waited far too long for the order to be taken by a rude and bored member of staff. After waiting nearly half an hour for a burger and soup, without even drinks on our table when asked how much longer it will be, to be told the ticket did not print out so we would have to wait even longer. The establishment is lovely and the views incredible. Not any good though if the service is diabolical.

Visited this place for sunday dinner, the owner Beverly needs some lessons in hospitality and manners. Shocking attitude. The english girl was fab. The food was fairly average and not to tasty. We asked for evening board only to be told no not sure why as it would have been as easy as the lunch board. I would recommend it but if she doesn't change her manners she'll have no business. Throwing plates down never once asked was everything ok for you or a thank you just someone who has no personality owning a upmarket for millport cafe.

Ate here a few months ago on a Saturday night and was very impressed with the food and service. Unfortunately it seems to have gone progressively downhill on each visit (3 in total) since then. Today’s was particularly disappointing. The place badly needs a deep clean-the floor and surfaces were covered in crumbs and there were 3 dying wasps on the window ledge. The glasses had dirty marks and my plate had a white hair on it. Food was generally mediocre and the tomato soup wasn’t edible. Staff inattentive too and seem very young. Sadly won’t be returning.

Went into the restaurant today and the service was appalling. They could not deliver two soups and a sandwich at the same time. They would not allow us to buy from the outside area, to have inside. We went inside because it was SO cold, outside. It took forever to take our order, even longer to deliver it and it was not busy. We had to vacate our table for a few minutes as they hadn’t even arranged it properly and they seemed, generally, totally unprepared. We had to ask for napkins, they forgot a drink order, although they did take it off the bill because they forgot about it. There were two dogs wandering around the restaurant, although well behaved. The outside cafe area is good and seems to be better run. Very disappointed with this visit and would not go back.

In the decade since I visited the place has evolved. Large indoor seating area, outdoor pergolas and hammocks. Still very busy with the cyclists as it’s the only place in the west of the island. Loved the house music stickers and classic Pacha calendar in the gents. So initial impressions not good as I dared to ask the dark haired lady where to order. She was very short and rude. Shame on me for thinking that the indoor bar and serving area with till is where you would order items? Fair enough. Burgers and chips and cheese were good and there was a small selection of beers. The three lads on the till and ice cream were fine. Our food was served to us by the grumpy lady and again it seemed like an inconvenience. If she is the owner she maybe doesn’t like customers and earning money. If she is just staff I would get some retraining. This place is the only show in town on the west of the island and is a gold mine. At least smile as you maintain a monopoly.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal here last night. Great service and exceptional food. The scallops were the best I’ve ever had, the sea bass was incredible and I topped it all off with a heavenly chocolate brownie. And each of these dishes was Gluten Free. You won’t get any better than this. Thank you for a lovely night.
