Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Light and airy indoor cafe with very pleasant outdoor seating in adjacent courtyard. Tasty homemade soup, nice fresh scones and decent coffee served by pleasant staff made for a good lunch stopover on a day visit to Millport. Would visit again.

Had lunch at The Garrison yesterday. The homemade soup was absolutely delicious, coffee fantastic and the caramel shortbread was divine. Great COVID procedures in place and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommend!

We were running an event in Millport for 110 people and looking for a large sandwich order for packed lunches. Ross was very pleasant and flexible to deal with. When the sandwiches arrived, ahead of time, we were delighted with the quality and presentation, lovely wee vegeware containers and tasty fillings. Our guests were all very happy. Highly recommended for events catering.

Visited the Garrison House Cafe and wish we hadn't. After reading favourable reviews for this place we decided to have lunch there and we're sorry we did. Food was advertised as homemade and was anything but, they also had cakes and scones advertised as homemade but looked as though they had came direct from a supermarket. When we challenged them their excuse was that we are in the middle of a pandemic. What we couldn't understand was how does being in the middle of a pandemic have to do with not being able to make homemade food as advertised. We certainly will never be back and suggested others stay away until they sort themselves out.

Disappointed that all their menu items aren’t included in the Government Help Out to Eat out scheme. We will be in in Millport for a week and would have ate here Mon till Wed if that was the case but instead we have only ate here on the Mon due to cost. We had a baked potato, some paninis and a filled roll and some cakes and soft drinks. Food was just ok and social distancing was adhered to. Healthier options were included in the scheme but I would have hoped that bottled water would have been included but even that wasn’t, nor were the baked potatoes which is a reasonably healthy option.

Visited cafe on Thursday 9/6/2022 during trip to Millport. Ordered Morrocan Chickpea Soup, two toasted cheese and pickle baquettes, tea and coffee and a bowl of water for my dog. Whilst placing my order I had to repeat my request due to the person taking my order not knowing what chutney/pickle was. When food came the soup was bland albeit edible. The baquettes were served cold and contained ham. As vegetarians we requested these be exchanged. Apologies were given by another staff member (who stated they were also vegetarian). I apologise if I offended the original person taking my order due to the disgruntled and angry manner with which I was met when she passed my table. Without making or passing judgement I assume it was due to the mix-up in her transmission of my order or regarding my request that the dirty water in the dog bowl be changed. Very disappointed by my experience in the Garrison Cafe.

Popped into The Garrison Cafe for a cup of coffee after a relaxing stroll along the promenade. The service was efficient and friendly and the staff were willing to share a bit of banter with the customers. The courtyard is an ideal setting for a place to chill. Credit to the staff for offering and supplying me with a fresh cup of coffee when a local fly descended into my cup.

It's a very cute cafe at Millport and serves tasty panini toasties burgers. The loaded nachos was also pretty good and they were kind e ough to make a vegetarian version for us. The coffee and hot chocolate were a saviour on a rainy cold day in May. We enjoyed our meal at the cafe. The staff was friendly too.

As an ex-Customs Officer I was interested to learn that Millport owes its origins in the 1700s to the people who attempted to smuggle contraband into the Clyde and to those who tried to stop them. Garrison House was built in 1745 as the residence of the Captain and officers of the Revenue Sailing Cutter the ‘Royal George’. Stationed at Millport, the Royal George played a key role in the Revenue (Customs) pursuit and apprehension of smugglers. The house is an excellent example of early 19th century gothic architecture and in 1908, the famous architect Robert Weir Schultz remodelled both the house and gardens, including the sunken garden to the front of the house. It is one of the few examples of his work in Scotland and has significant historical merit. Following a major fire in 2001, the building became a derelict ruin and it is to the great credit of the local community that, following a two year restoration project, the building was able to re-open and now serves as an important hub for vital facilities and the hosting of activities for locals and visitors alike.   Garrison House now boasts the local GP surgery, a state of the art Library, the Museum of the Cumbraes, the Garrison Café, North Ayrshire local council services office and also has rooms available for community use. We only had coffee in the inner courtyard so can’t comment on the rest of the menu. The coffee was fine.

Can’t praise the Garrison cafe highly enough. I was in with my two boys and they were very busy. Our food was taking a while to come out but I was in no hurry. The manager came came out and apologised and brought me a fresh hot coffee moments before our food arrived. The soup and rolls and sausage well lovely. Proper good old fashioned homemade soup. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Millport. Well worth a visit and prices are reasonable. Thank you

Can’t say enough good things about the service we got from Garrison House Cafe. We had 2 celebrations in August of which Garrison catered with sandwiches for both. Even though it was their busiest time they handled our requests with ease. Great selection, loved by all who had them. Won't hesitate to recommend and use again.

After finding this cafe on a previous visit, when we come to Millport, we always come back for lunch. Lovely and clean, friendly service and lots to choose from - soup, sandwiches, baguettes, breakfasts, cakes - something for everyone. You can sit inside or outside in the courtyard. Highly recommended

We have been coming to the Garrison for years in and out of season. It never fails to impress with good quality food freshly cooked. But what is really impressive is the staff and management. Cheerful, efficient and proactive even on their busiest days

Where do you begin with a place as FAB as this?! The food is fantastic and homemade, the cakes are incredible and the drinks are to die for! This place is a MUST when visiting the island, whether it be for a quick bite or a really enjoyable fuel-up meal. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating and will move heaven and earth to make sure your visit is top notch. You’re missing out if you aren’t eating here!
