It’s been a while since last here but whenever we are in the area, we like to stop here for a meal which we did a few weeks ago. Honestly, we were a little disappointed. We love the setting, and the staff were friendly enough...but I thought it was quite over priced. My gnocchi arrived there were 7 pieces on my plate with a blob of sauce, so $3.50 per piece! I ordered a mulled wine, and surprisingly a warm glass of white wine with a cinnamon stick arrived , well that was a first for me! Nowhere on the menu did it mention that the mulled wine would be made with white wine, nor did the waiter mention anything. I had a few sips of my $18 hot white wine drink and that was enough. Mulled wine should definitely only be red. My dads pasta dish was nice and the salmon was ok. We sat chatting for about an hour after our meal. No dessert menu was offered to us in that time ( the best apple crumble I’ve ever had is no longer on the menu ) , so we paid & left.More

We used to go to the Garden Shed quite a lot before the lockdowns and took our friends there with high expectations. Good table at the back, friendly waiting staff… but the food was so disappointing. Tiny but vastly overpriced portions, we were all still...really hungry after a starter and main. We decided to skip the overpriced desserts and walk back to our place for coffee and leftover Christmas trifle. I don’t think we’ll be going back.More

We were three, males, advanced in years (totalling 201yrs among us), celebrating a birthday. First day out of Auckland's lockdown, hopes were high. First time at this restaurant too. Nice greeting at the door, very pleasant people, asked very nicely for our vaccination certificates. The...website says no guarantees of a seat in the garden even when you book, so even though the interior looked very comfortable and interesting, nevertheless it was a pleasant surprise to be ushered out the back into a surprising and delightful outdoor area in the middle of crowded suburbia. High walls, one of which is a film-set two-dimensional replica of a large old house, which adds nicely to the atmosphere. The walls are covered in lush plantings of a wide variety. Tables well-spaced for covid. I suspect they might have been a bit more cramped in normal times. In the middle of what was a warm early-summer day the overhead sail and the large portable fans were very welcome. 10 out of 10 for ambience. Lovely staff, though the masks and the accents made it difficult to hear much of the time. Three different beers ordered. Two came in glasses that didn't appear very cold, and so they proved. One came in a can along with a chilled glass. That one was very good. When we ordered a repeat later in the meal, we pointed out the lack of chill. They promised to do better with the second order, and this time all three were moderately cold - that is two were better and one was slightly worse. The range on offer wasn't bad, but I'd have to score 5 out of 10. No excuse for beer not being well chilled, in summer especially. Maybe they're out of practice. One burger, ok but not great despite being wagyu beef. A burger is best eaten in one piece, in the hand, all flavours blending together in the mouth. This was the type that is not large in diameter but is very tall, so your only option is to break it open and eat it with knife and fork and miss the blend. One fish and chips, very dark and oily batter, looking somewhat overcooked. The fish inside was moist and fine though. Nice fries on both. One chicken breast, nice enough if nothing outstanding. I can't really score better than 6/10 for the mains, very much typical pub food. One dessert, meringue, was not quite as described on the menu but was actually better for being one normal meringue and a series of tiny ones, along with sliced fruit, coulis, and other sweet morsels. The mocha fudge went down very well too. But the apple and rhubarb tart looked so good that I almost wished I'd chosen it even though I don't like cooked apple. It apparently tasted as good as it looked. 10/10 for the desserts then. So, 2 tens, a 5 and a 6. That's not a bad score but will it entice us back? Not sure. Hope they do well, though, as Auckland eases out of restrictions.More

Wonderfull overall experience! Highly recommend, the food was amaze 9/10, but the experience sheesh don’t think I’ve had a better one. Their outdoor garden winter vibes were beautiful, and our waitress was 10/10 and made our experience. Will definitely be visiting again.

We went here for lunch and the first thing that wow-ed us was the ambience. True to its name, the place seemed like an oasis/garden tucked in the concrete jungle. However, the experience that blew us away was their superior customer service. They were all...professional, engaging and really made every effort (genuinely) to ensure we were having a great dining experience. Highly recommend the Curious chook and the steak 😋.More

First time at this restaurant. It looked busy and i now know why. The best service i have experienced in a long time. Warm friendly welcome..choice of indoor or outdoor seating..specials explained..knowledgable about wine selection. Decided on chicken main and baileys affogato..both delicious. Goid selection...of tap beers had the IPA. All served in a timely manner and reasonably priced. Obviously strong management in place. Highly recommend and i will b back!More

The lovely people at the Time Out bookshop recommended this to us, and they were right, it’s very good. The menu caters for all diets, and the servings are generous. The burgers looked amazing, though we didn’t have them. The restaurant has several different dining...spaces, so the feeling is of a very spacious space. Service is friendly and efficient.More
