The servers were very friendly, but not very knowledgeable about their menu or how to mix drinks. The food itself is ok. It seems that they are out of many of the menu items most of the time. However, you do have an open-air view which is right on the beach. That, to me, is worth a great deal when on Island Time. Oh, and speaking of that...you will wait...a long time. Still, there aren't that many options in the town area. Best meal is probably the breakfast.

Good service, food was delicious, prices were a little high but not bad. The banana colada was awesome! Will definitely be going back for another drink.

We had breakfast here at Callaloo restaurant. It was good. They served a mix of local and American breakfast. There was one minor hiccup with the bill but it was quickly resolved.

Okay, they get good reviews, referrals and at first glance it looks pretty welcoming. We went on a Friday night during Xmas/ NYE week with a party of nine. We are your best clientele meaning we eat a lot, drink a lot and tip well and don't complain. Not this night. There was one woman working the front of the house and probably one person in the kitchen. There were maybe 20 people in the restaurant at the time causing a log jam for drinks and getting an order in. Another group of 8 came in and then waited 15 minutes before leaving when no one greeted or sat them. It took over an hour to get our food and they forgot 2 orders. Luckily we ordered lots of food. Also, of their limited menu they were out of half of it, so your choice was shrimp, pasta or a burger all over cooked. No fish, ribs or salads. Oh I almost forgot... no callaloo soup (their name sake). The people that left earlier did come back because there is nothing else within walking distance.
So the moral of the story is when you call for a rezzy ask if they are fully staffed, have everything on the menu and you'll probably enjoy The Mermaid. If not go else where.

Enjoyed the morning breakfast right next to the ocean with the cool breeze and sound of rolling waves. The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Calesha.

The restaurant that is part of the Mermaid hotel. Basic Caribbean cooking. Nice seaside view. Only open for breakfast and lunch which is a drawback. Overall reasonable.

This is a top restaurant in Hillsborough, situated in the restored Mermaid Hotel. The view of Hillsborough Bay is amazing. The patio is cool and breezy. And the food is excellent. I had the jerk chicken and it was delicious. Courteous, friendly service. Highly recommended.

We started our Carriacou trip with a breakfast at Callaloo and we enjoyed it a lot - the food and coffee were really good, the views were pretty and the sound of the waves during breakfast time is the best sound you want to start your day to!
Service is nice but do expect island time, after all it's Caribbean time and on top of this it's a smaller island on top of it :) (we had no issue with that)
TIP: there is a swing in front of it literally attached to the big tree - DO ENJOY IT :)
TIP: they do accept credit cards and gratuity is automatically included 10% so no need to worry about cash

Having spent a month on Carriacou this restaurant was one of our regular haunts.
The beach front location makes it easy to relax and spend a while over drinks and a meal (or two). The food offers are usually a choice from 3 or 4 options with local style and flavour with some really nice local fresh fish.
