On my recent visit to Wellington and Petone, Caffiend was highly recommended by my daughter and her husband, who live two blocks away.
All I can say is wow! During my week-and-a-half trip I visited this wonderful restaurant six times. The coffee and baked goods are fabulous, but my favorite item on the menu was their waffles with maple syrup, bananas, bacon, and cinnamon whipped cream, which catapulted to the top of my best-ever brunch list. Highly recommended!

We don’t always have brunch here because we’re late risers and it’s often quite full. Recently we’ve managed to get in early a couple of times and it’s been excellent both times. Great food, great coffee and really excellent service. Both times there were little “above and beyond” things that we didn’t ask for - extra bacon for my husband to replace the things he didn’t want in the big breakfast, and this morning one of my poached eggs had popped when it was served so they brought me an extra one. Will definitely be back!

Super kind staff today made some small meal adaptations for our tired wee lady. It made all the difference so all 10 of us could enjoy a relaxed and scummy lunch. Speedy service too

After many years away from Lower Hutt I found myself back in Petone at breakfast time.
Having previously had many good experiences here I headed in for breakfast and a cup of tea.
The place is looking quite tired and a little scruffy, bathroom wasn't clean and needed refurbishment (access wasn't easy for those with any mobility issues).
Service was quick but impersonal and lacked any social skills (despite being busy there's no need for this in this environment)
Food was "ok" but toast was dripping with butter and quantity was a little mean given the $27 cost, eggs were over cooked but mushrooms were delicious.
My english breakfast tea was so weak and by the time the single tea bag did its job it was almost cold.
My last visit I fear?

Stopped in here as we had some time to kill before an appointment, myself and my 2yo had a long black, fluffy and cheese scone. Bustling and busy cafe on a Tuesday morning and even though the line was 10 deep it moved quick, only had to wait 10 mins for a coffee which was pretty good considering they had many tickets up on the coffee machine. Delicious cheese scone and coffee was great, will be back! Quite a lot of seating inside and 6 or more outside on the road side but a wide footpath and barrier on the curb.

Just had a cheese scone and foolishly bought a takeaway to have later before I had tried the first one. Bad decision. Tasted stale, poor flavour and terrible consistency. Have thrown the second one away as it’s that bad.

I visited this place for the first time. I ordered four dishes (for two people) as I would like to try their food.
Mexican breakfast was awesome! Ceasar salad was very good. The poached egges and toast were nicely cooked.
Recommended!!

Food average, coffee very good, I particularly enjoyed staff banter the swearing and then topped off by the public holiday surcharging, which is a load of crock.
Great business if too dumb to calculate annual running cost.
Very average just skip and save your cash.

Called into this place whilst visiting Hills Hats. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we wouldn't have found Hills Hats otherwise. Great coffee served with Mexican eggs and mince on toast. If you haven't had this before you must give this a go ! Thanks to Emma and her team for a great feed !!

Mother’s Day, place was full - however food was still fantastic… Soup was great, smashed Avocado with Halumi = best ever! Hot chocolates, iced chocolates = incredible.
Kids meals = awesome, will keep coming back…

Looking for a nice cafe to stop off for coffee. Our usual haunt has closed. What a gem of a place. Very busy. Lovely staff, excellent coffee and food. Very hard to pass the sweet counter without a purchase. Highly recommend this place.

Been there for coffee a few times and gave all the food coming out of the kitchen a longing look and thought - next time.
Finally got there and it was, as always, busy and bustling. They are hugely popular and yet the service is super timely, the food is excellent and the coffee hot and how you want it.

We visited for the first time as 2 couples.
We got the last table, the cafe was noisy but vibrant.
I expected a long wait for our food since it was full but it was there in a flash. I had the best ever french toast, bacon & banana.
All 4 of us enjoyed our meals and coffee.
Shout out to the hardworking team there... they were flat out the whole time.
Highly recommended...we will be back.

Wonderful place to visit for breakfast
Food amazing and well drilled staff who worked fast friendly and efficiently. 11 out of 10. Keen to return. Can recommend the lambsfry and bacon

Great spot and humming when we had brunch. Staff super friendly and helpful to score us a table. Awesome coffee. Perfect strength and heat. Had the Mexican scrambled eggs which were a yummy combination.
