The Gannet is an old favorite of ours, a bit pricey, but worth it. Waiting staff excellent and very friendly. My husband had the Sushi Platter for one and I had the grilled Salmon served with a sautéed cauliflower puree the lemon thyme roasted beetroot and garlic labneh. Every dish was well prepared and quite tasty. We enjoy the apple crumble stack and decadent chocolate desserts with black Americano coffee. We would come again and bring our friends with.

I have been many times to Mosselbaai and always on the lookout for a special place to eat something delicious. I think this time I found it: my husband and I stopped there for lunch on a rainy January lunch and we were surprised by special and tasty starters and a perfectly well grilled sirloin. The waiters were discreet and helpful. On the way out we walked through the Inverroche Gin School and thought we should definitely try to book a tasting next time we are in the area.

We went here as it was attached to the Protea Hotel and I was pleased as I like sea food. Our meals were quite expensive but adequate grilled Kingklip, Kingklip en Croute and a Calamari plus a bottle of a quite nice M A N Padstal Chardonnay. The stars of the evening were the starters, 2 atomic Jalapenos and a Haddock goujons. The service was very slow but good as the place was quite full. I don't know about breakfast as we left at 0630.

the waiter first named one price per dish, but the check contained more than twice the price. said that I have a Thai accent and you do not understand. also I do not recommend the city of Mossal Bay. it is not a comfortable city, in which the tourist has nothing to do. even nowhere to eat.

We ordered the FAB Pizza and a lamb curry. With both dishes we can say it was very average, especially for the price we paid. It was lovely sitting outside and the service was really good. The restaurant has a very romantic atmosphere on the inside. The food was very average. Both dishes were over salted and we usually enjoy our salt! I could've made a better curry at home.

We came to this restaurant by chance, as the place where we wanted to go was fully booked as was most of the places in December in Mosselbay. We had a late lunch. We ordered sushi for starters and Salmon for mains. The food was exceptional! It was very fresh and superbly prepared! We went again a week later for dinner and ordered the huge pricey seafood platter! Wow!!! I have never experienced the taste of food into my soul as well! But on both visits to this restaurant, I did!

We have been long-standing customers of the Gannet for over 15 years and it’s always a treat when we are in town.We had a wonderful experience with a friendly waiter, food that was beautifully prepared and overall it was a great experience. Not even mentioning the great view and great hospitality!

Since our previous visit the restaurant has been very well renovated and updated with nice comfortable furnishings creating a relaxed atmosphere. The dinner menu offered a variety of choices. The food for dinner was both well prepared and presented. The following morning the breakfast buffet offered a good selection of fruits, cereals, bread and a hot cooked breakfast. We enjoyed both meals.

This restaurant is attached to the Protea hotel by the seaside. The environment is relaxing and beautiful. The service was friendly and excellent. The breakfast buffet had a good selection, my only criticism is that grille mushroom was quite salty. The setting is top class and we find price to be very reasonable. We were so impressed by this restaurant that next time we visit Mossel Bay we are going to consider staying at the attached hotel.

This restaurant is highly overrated. We have been visiting for years but I think it’s popularity for its location has gone to its head. A nice sushi menu but then we are told they have no salmon. Italian pizza said Parma ham but instead had cubes of ham like a Regina and the base was soggy too. Also not wood fired oven which made the base rather greasy. Pretty tasteless. R37 per oyster which they call medium size. Not according to other places. The food is not bad but not great either and way overpriced for this standard. It’s a place to be seen. It not to be enjoyed at the prices you pay. Rather try the less commercial and touristy restaurants. Sorry. We wont be returning again even though we have moved here now. Also won’t be bringing any of our guests. The service is excellent but does not make up for the lack of flavour, price and ingredients.

Thank you for your comments with regards to your experience at the Café Gannet. We sincerely apologize for the non availability of Salmon and Parma Ham during the peak season. We did sell out on a few occasions. Salmon is a specialised item and gets flown in to the garden route fresh weekly. Please note that we truly appreciate your comments and that our location has not gone to our heads. It's been extremely difficult to operate under the Covid restrictions this season and to accurately anticipate the correct quantities. We generally only serve fresh wild oysters due to the bad weather over the peak season they were not readily available as an alternative we sold fresh cultivated oysters. As we don't know your identity you are welcome to make contact with us via eat@cafegannet.co.za for us to further remedy the situation with you.

The place is so clean. Outstanding area and sea view. Excellent service and delicious food. Staff are really customer oriented and work their best to satisfy customer’s need. You need to see the place and eat over their to have a great taste of the South African hospitality.

Hi Azzam A, your review is so complimentary and really made our day. I have passed your comments on to our back of house team and they are so happy, the cleaners are not always seen, but the work that they do is so important to make sure our guests feel comfortable when visiting us. Thank you for recognizing their efforts and the work of the front of house staff too. I really hope that there will be an opportunity for us to be of service to you again in future! Best regards, Janine

As frequent visitors we have and will always speak highly of The Gannet. Charlene is the best waitress and we always request her. We are however very sad to see some of our favorite dishes no longer available such as; Ostrich Espetada, Grilled Kingklip, Asian Chicken, Scallops, Asian Fish Cakes and the Apple Crumble. We truly hope management might consider adding these dishes to their menu again!

Dear 552jessee, many thanks for your review. We are very sorry that some of your favorite dishes are no longer on the menu, but do hope that some of our new dishes become favorites in the future. We did have to make more changes than usual to the menu - due to the unprecedented and unusual times that we live in - but I am sure that a few of these will return to the menu when they are in demand and things settle back down again. There are some of the aforementioned that we can still make with ingredients on hand, so please do not hesitate to ask when booking. We are immeasurably grateful for your ongoing support! THANK YOU so much. I will most certainly pass you message on the the whole team. (PS: we don't get great scallops year round but please do try the Asian mussels - they are just as good)

We four elderly gentlemen have for many years enjoying a monthly lunch in and around George. The "man in the chair"decided that Cafe Gannet would see us for the January luncheon and so we came to Mossel Bay. I must say that we were not disappointed. The Gannet Cafe is rather special and our meal was well up to the high standard we tend to demand. I was particularly impressed with my Mossel Bay Seafood Pizza. Just perfect. The ambiance and service was great. We will return.

Situated next to the Protea hotel, parking is ample as the entrance to Diaz museum is next door. The choice of food is vast and covers vegetarian, fish, chicken and meat. The whole wheat oaty bread was delicious. All food is served with a silver bell covering. Food texture and different spices added was excellent. Pizzas are also available to round off the menu.

This is the first time we have eaten here - and we were taken by residents of Mossel Bay who obviously know where to eat. All the food and service was excellent - particularly the oysters and the Red Dragon Roll. The lamb curry was also enjoyed.
