Friday night Buffet with a show

Beautiful beach front Resort, very relaxing atmosphere, and very friendly staff, entertainment was on point, food was ok you get given a card to hand in for your 1 time helping at the buffet..maybe they do buffet differently here in Tonga it's not all you can eat and help yourself numerous time when you want other than that everything else was great.. I'm not sure if I will go back for the Buffet night ...but I will definately be back for lunch or something else other than the Buffet night.

Thank you for your honest feedback, unfortunately buffet is operated differently here in Tonga. The staff helps serve the food but there is definitely plenty of food everyone. Thank you once again JOHN

Puts the 'friendly' into the Friendly Islands

Great location. Units are nice. Show superb. Staff friendly. Owners excellent. Mahimihi fish dish best in the islands. My mate and I had a really good stay. I have been to Samoa and Fiji, and this rates amongst the best resorts I have stayed in the Pacific.

Good entertainment, food however is very basic.

It seems as though this resort caters for locals more than for international guests. The entertainment was excellent. However the food appeared to be more suited for the locals. Otherwise Good effort. Sad it was destroyed in the recent Cyclone. Lets hope they rebuild bigger and better!

Great place to eat while watching whales

We have eaten a lovely meal of fish , chips and salad and curry, rice and salad. Cost T$25 each. They were huge servings and very tasty. We went back the next day to have cocktails on the deck while viewing the whales. We were served by Siva and her friend who were both very helpful and friendly. Tonight we are going back for buffet and cultural entertainment .

Best on Nuku’alofa!

Stayed for 5 nights in June, had the best time and didn’t want to come home. John and Marian (owners) alongside Mary did their best to make me feel at home and nothing was too much to ask. Rooms were basic (as to be expected of Tonga) but more then adequate/comfortable for the stay, literally 5-20m from the beach (would say it was the best of any hotel on the island from travels) and great value for money - couldn’t complain! Breakfast was good, was lovely sitting on the veranda in the morning, eating and reading a book. Island buffet dinners and entertainment were enjoyable and amazing to watch. Can’t wait to stay again! Thanks for making my first solo trip a memorable one!

Dream Wedding Venue

My husband and I are from Australia and wedded at Vakaloa beach resort in November 2018. I am half caste and my husband full Australian, the wedding was the perfect combination of cultures in the most beautiful setting. Un-traditionally we decided to have our Ceremony on the balcony, the signing of the certificates on the beach and then the reception in the hall. Marian, John and the team we’re very accomodating to all of our changes to the event. All of the last minute requests we had raised were all fulfilled- Last minute decision I had requested a string band as opposed to a normal band and within a matter of 2 days the team were able to turn this around. I highly recommend this for anyone considering a beach wedding in Tonga.

Great banquet and show

Great banquet showcasing Tongan generous and warm hospitality. The place was packed with Tongan families and only a few tourists. Great laughter and enjoyment as various guests got up on stage and danced, birthday announcements and dedications were made. The banquet was very generous with the obligatory roast pig. The show is great. Don't forget to bring some change to show your appreciation for the dancers by attaching to costumes.

You are utterly the very best. I mean seriously you rented me a car at a very low rate, you did'nt want my cc. Your island nights are Wed and Friday are brilliant, lots of nice food and sensational entertainment. You guys are AWESOME. I'm coming back next year, can't wait, oh and please reserve the red car for me. xxxx

we went along for the buffet night meals are served after 8 pm which didnt really suit us as we were told to be there by 7pm . meal was ok but a big crowd and very loud

Thank you for your honest feedback, our doors are open at 7pm to allow the guest for arrival for the 8pm dinner. Unfortunately we average between 200 to 450 people every Wednesdays and Friday night with 95 percent of the guest being locals. Malo John

Hotel and Restaurant experience...best Hospitality feeling since a long time

We were staying 3 nights in the hotel and the restaurant. We felt to be warmly welcomed. The biggest honour for us was,to stay in the local wedding on saturday night. The local dances were impressing, the buffet delicious. Remarkable also how good the ressort is organised. Thanks to john and the Staff...you really understand to handle the small problems of the tourists and handle all of them easily...a lot of hotels and restaurant could take you us an axample how to do.

I’ve heard so many fun and entertaining stories of fellow Tongan-Australians who’ve been to this resort and I finally got to experience it. Amazing entertainment, the views from the resort onto the beach are breath-taking. Food was good and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. The only reason I couldn’t give a 5 star rating is because of the inconsistencies of prices for beverages. I ordered an alcoholic beverage and paid $15 for it, however my sister ordered the exact same beverage and was charged $25? Perhaps they made a mistake or they tried to scrape for a few extra dollars lol. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this resort and will visit again when we return.

Not a traditional cultural night

We went on a Wednesday evening with a largish group. The DJ and singer was so loud I couldn't have a conversation with the person beside me. When the buffet was served it was chaos and a free for all to get to the 2 lines. It would be easy to allow one table to go up at a time instead. I tried a little of each dish but wish I hadn't. The shellfish and octopus were inedible and the pork fatty and undercooked. I did like the raw fish though. I tried the dessert but couldn't manage the taste of the local delicacies. The place was full of locals who from the constant (happy) screaming clearly were having a great time. They also jump onstage and dance with enthusiasm and also walk round the dancers and tuck money into their clothes to tip them. All a bit strange but actually quite fun. The reason I give 2 stars rather than 1 is for the dancers and fire dancers. It was done to modern songs rather than traditional music and lasted about 30mins after the food. The stick dancing was also great. I cannot give more than 2 stars with such bad food and loud music
