Upon recommendation from a Santa Cruz, Bolivia friend, our guide was able to arrange a special lunch for our group. Normally, The Hot Spot, serves only a dinner tasting menu. Nevertheless, our meal gave promise to yet more delicious dishes from the female chef and...her team. We were all sorry not to have the opportunity to experience the dinner tasting menu. Our dishes arrived beautifully arranged, an invitation to partake in satisfying flavors and textural combinations. A small upstairs space; bold graphics by local artists decorate the walls.More

This place is fantastic, we went because there were lots of comments saying "You have to go" - and we were not disappointed. Delicious and well thought through dishes, I can be picky but loved very dish. The host is a lovely guy who clearly...is wonderful at what he does. Go.More

Don’t judge a book by its cover. This place is beyond fantastic. The most innovative and delicious food I’ve had after 10 days traveling around Bolivia. Wonderful chef and owners. Wish I had something this wonderful back home.

Incredible fine dining in strange Uyuni. Israel is so hospitable, the kitchen so good. Only compliments!!! We'll come back next year.

Super friendly staff, every course was served with a thorough explanation, but most of all: the food was delicious. Every course a small explosion of flavor! Best vegetarian food possible.

I spent a long time online before we left home to try and find a special restaurant in which to celebrate out anniversary this evening. It seems Uyuni is not overflowing with gourmet restaurants, but when I came across review for this oddly named place,...I was immediately smitten. The entrance is totally unremarkable: no huge advertising boards, no menu outside, no windows with pretty lights and views of diners enjoying themselves inside; just a plain door in a mud brick wall on a dusty side street with nothing much around. Steep stairs lead to a funky dining room with quirky artwork and a friendly welcome. Once inside, we are transported to a different world, one in which we are about to go on a gastronomic journey through Bolivia. The dark lighting and eclectic décor, with its red, white and black theme, does remind me a little of a rather seedy club I occasionally visited in my wild youth. The waiter patiently explains everything to us in great detail while I make copious notes. The service is friendly, attentive and unpretentious: the cutlery is delivered in a pile on the table, and for each course he recommends which utensil we should use. The focus here is very much on the food and the taste experience, rather than the impersonal scraping and bowing to pompous diners you often find in upmarket restaurants. I like it. There is no choice of food, just a set menu (with the usual questions about any dietary requirements, of course). With no preconceived notions of what to expect, each dish is a revelation, an elaborate work of art, and a complete culinary experience, with elements from each region of Bolivia. Everything we have been served this evening has been scrumptious, elaborate satisfying and exotic, with a kaleidoscope of flavours - a real foodgasm! The service has been impeccable and the company delightful. This place is a real gem, and not at all what you'd expect to find down a deserted dirt-road in a small wild-west-like town like Uyuni, which has a delightful hippy vibe and is full of backpackers and adventure tourists. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place for a treat!More

We decided to come to this place after reading the reviews and the waiter was very friendly and the small sample of our food was good, but nothing spectacular! It was an experience, but I probably would have preferred to eat in a different restaurant,...however, all the restaurants are shocking round here, so hence why this one is rated so highly. It is expensive for the prices of bolivia, but nevertheless not a bad place and the waiter does explain all the dishes, but not much atmosphere and doesn’t feel like a restaurant.More

If someone had told me that I would have a 4-course degustation menu in Uyuni I would not have believed him. And I would have been wrong as this is exactly what The Hot Spot The New Religion offers. My wife and I visited the...place on a Saturday night and really loved it (booking is necessary as there are only a few tables). The entrance is totally unremarkable, a few stairs from a dusty Uyuni Street, but once you have climbed them you find a modern decoration and a welcoming dining room. Our table was close to the window and we were seated on two sofas. There is only one option: the 4-course degustation menu. All dishes were very good, prepared on the spot with fresh and local ingredients. As usual with degustation menus there are higher and lower points. The second course, a vegetable salad inspired from the Peruvian ceviche was outstanding as well as the main course, a pork preparation. The other dishes including dessert were at a level below but nevertheless very good. Upon recommendation from Israel, the chef's brother in charge of service, we had two glasses of a Bolivian wine which combined very well with the food. Maybe high by Bolivian standards prices are nonetheless very reasonable for such a quality. We paid 370 BOB or the equivalent of 54 USD for two. In summary, our dinner was a very pleasant experience, all the more welcomed after three days in the neighbouring desert. The Hot Spot The New Religion is definitely a must-visit during a trip to Uyuni.More

A wonderful place to eat in the centre of Uyuni. I’ve had the fortune to eat at Norma’s in Denmark, and this was very similar and just as good. Each course was delivered with knowledge of local ingredients from the Andes. The vegetarian tasting menu...was an explosion to the taste buds. Each course small and incredible. Was very full by the end and the cocktails very impressive too. This restaurant could be in the heart of Paris, London, New York or be a sister restaurant of Nomas’s.More

Words cannot describe the shock I had at finding a 7 course tasting menu in quiet Uyuni. The complexity of flavors is something you’d only expect to find in a major city, but every ingredient is locally sourced from Bolivia. The quality, quantity and variety...of the dishes is amazing. If you find yourself wandering out of the salt flats and in need of an amazing meal, you won’t find better in town… or anywhere close.More
