So very many restaurants are so very similar it seems to me. To find a different experience of fine dining is somewhat challenging, but not impossible. I must admit from the off I am not vegan but am a lover of food, innovation, and quality.
For my mother's birthday, 13 family members stayed in the local area to Foxglove. We booked out the restaurant to seat all for a private taste sensation and were welcomed with open arms, a very homely and rustic restaurant and two of the most fantastic purveyors of fine food one could imagine.
There was some trepidation within the group but all were soon mesmerised by the introduction and explanation of each course, there were 5, and an education, of sorts, in vegan fine dining. Even the wine was incredible and we learned how egg whites are used in the process of making non-vegan wine. Egg whites? Wine?
I can't recommend Foxglove highly enough for it's food, atmosphere and owners; owners who go to great lengths to not only welcome but also lead the dinners through the experience, and what an experience.
From freshly foraged food to fungi we were unaware existed, Foxglove creates a cornucopia of tastes and textures leaving those consuming dishes, as beautiful as they are delicious, in a whirlwind of adventure, which leaves far behind any thought of meat or concern at the 'vegan' tag.
A big thank you from all us Vines to Foxglove and I assure any reader a visit will open your minds, fill your hearts and expand your palets immeasurably.
PS - To top it all off dogs are welcome, which as the user of a therapy dog made me feel less imposing and difficult.

Our experience at Foxglove makes me think I should change all my previous reviews to 4 stars, because this was an absolute 5 star experience. The ambience, the drink options, service and of course the food was spectacular.
Our hostess told us all about each dish, and the work that goes into each plate was just as fantastic to hear about as it was to eat!
The atmosphere was unlike anything we have experienced before, we chatted to other patrons as well as our hostess about dogs, the local area and of course the wonderful food. Everyone was so friendly.
We brought our dog, something we don’t usually do but we were assured the place was very dog friendly. If anything they were dog-positive! Our girl was spoiled with her own bed and water, and got a good fuss every time our hostess or chef came over.
Overall, we had a wonderful evening. We live over the border in Manchester but we have both agreed would make the journey again in a heartbeat.
Thank you Foxglove for such a treat. You have something very special here, long may it continue!

I travel to Wales twice a year to visit Foxglove - quite honestly they serve the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life! Everything is a true taste sensation. Every dish is so carefully thought out and prepared, it’s like a work of art on each plate. The attention to detail, the creativity and the flavours are beautiful. The couple who run it are lovely and friendly, Antonella is front of house, she’s an expert forager and chef Luke is a true genius in the kitchen. Best of all, they raise funds for an animal rescue in Bali and dogs are welcome in the restaurant! All are greeted with a blanket and a Whimsy dog treat- and lots of fuss - what’s not to love! It’s a real treat to eat there and I always look forward to visiting.

Just wow! We loved everything about this tiny quirky restaurant set in the heart of Barmouth.
We arrived on the dot so got to chose our table. No contest, we had to sit next to Chips the cuddly chihuahua!
Antonella herself serves each dish and describes in detail every component which miraculously blend together to provide a party in your mouth. Every course was divine.
They are very animal friendly, obviously, and even welcomed a caged pet parrot to sit with her owners in the corner.
This really was a different kind of dining experience and we can't wait to go back when we're in the area. Vegan for 8 years and the best food yet.
Many congratulations to Antonella and the chef for creating such a wonderful, friendly, eatery. xx

I’m still astonished by our meal at foxglove 3 days after eating it.
The food and service were both exceptional. Barmouth should be proud to have this destination restaurant right on its doorstep- it brought four of us from various parts of the U.K. together to celebrate a special occasion
Food arrives in small plates, the menu is tantalising and good value for money for food of this quality and execution.
We’re already looking at dates to return.

A wonderful evening at the Foxglove in Barmouth. Brilliant vegan food, tasting fantastic and wonderfully presented. Really good value at £55 for tasting menu. The owners are great hosts and clearly are knowledgeable and skilled & authentically committed to vegan lifestyle. We came away having been treated to a great meal as well as being entertained in conversations with Antonella our host and bringer of food. There was a humorous dynamic between her and her partner the chef. All in all a brilliant night out and no problem recommending this place for all; you don’t have to be vegan to enjoy the food. On finishing our meal we were asked to name our favourite of the dishes and this was a really difficult choice as all of them were perfect.

Foxglove offers an outstanding culinary experience. When planning our trip to this area of Wales we selected Barmouth based on wanting to visit this restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. Each of the five courses on the set menu was exquisitely prepared and presented by the fantastic chef Luke. Multiple elements, colours, textures and complementary flavours making up each of the dishes. Everything is plant-based, much of it foraged, leading to a welcome opportunity to try new, and some previously unheard of, ingredients. Add to this, a cosy, relaxed environment, outstanding bread, a lovely bottle of wine, the added bonus of a slice of Antonella’s carrot cake (an extra treat for the couple of regulars sitting next to us), and being made to feel completely welcomed as friends chatting away long after bedtime! The meal was one of the most memorable of my life, I strongly recommend you book a table if you are in the area.

I went to visit Wales last week for the first time ever. I decided to go to Barmouth on a solo trip in search of balance, between mountains and sea, cooling down from a frenetic life.
When I looked online for vegan places to have dinner at, luckily I found out about Foxglove, and based on the extraordinary reviews and beautiful pictures I saw, I immediately knew I wanted to book my own spot there.
What I didn't know though was that not only was I going to have excellent food and drinks as expected, but also the most amazing and incredible experience I could possibly dream of!
The hosts are so friendly and incredibly passionate about every single thing they do, to the point that they explain each course in such a detailed way.
They forage most of the ingredients used in their dishes which makes their food even more amazing, super fresh and delicious, made with true love.
From the first course the explosion of flavours and the combination of different textures surprise your palate in a way that all your senses are awakened and aligned, and before you know it, a beautiful atmosphere is created between their guests and you feel one with the whole experience!
The drinks I had were well balanced with the food and I also had the privilege to try their homemade Kefir, which was so good!!!!
Luke and Antonella are genuinely working hard to create this unique experience that is amazing for everyone, not only for vegans!
I will definitely come back as soon as I will visit Barmouth again!
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who looks for wonderful healthy food made to the highest level at a super reasonable price for what you really get in return.
Much love xx

Just the best vegan meal we’ve ever eaten. There were 5 courses, the ingredients for which had been foraged or sourced locally and each was superb in terms of presentation, taste and textures.
Our hosts were brilliant and talked us through each course and were so interesting and informative about the food and life in Barmouth.
It really was a truly memorable evening.

This was our second visit and we've had the pleasure of eating both the Sunday lunch and the evening taster menu.
Every plate that arrives is a work of art and the ingredients just dance on your taste buds.
The venue is intimate and cosy and the hosts are the best!
Even if you're not vegan and just love great food then this is the place to try. You eat plants that you never even knew existed, many that are foraged from the surrounding area.
It's the best dining experience you'll ever try!!

One of the best meals I've ever had! A set menu with five courses of inventive and unique food. Proper fine dining but with no pretentiousness at all. The host and chef were really friendly and talked us through all the dishes, where all the ingredients came from, and where some things had been foraged. It was a really unique experience, with some flavours I've never tasted before. Would definitely come back again, especially because their menu is always changing. 10/10!

Lush food, fab service, great value for money, very dog friendly, even supplied with a dog blanket and treats on arrival. Met some great people, will definitely return. A must for vegans and non-vegans alike, most of the food is locally sourced and foraged. Imaginatively, skilfully and deliciously put together in a 5 course fixed menu, good choice of wine and expert advice on which to pick. Great experience.

Well i must admit i was skeptical when my partner suggested Vegan...
however i not only ate everything but my preconceptions also !
the food was truly wonderful, well thought-out and beautifully presented. in particular i loved the mushroom risotto.
hosted by a slightly eccentric but incredibly lovely Roman lady & her husband (the Chef) it is also dog friendly.
i couldn't recommend this place more. Thankyou Foxglove

3rd visit here, given we live on the other side of the country and can't visit as often as we'd like to!
Autumn might be our favourite season yet. Such deep flavours and the imagination and presentation keep getting better and better.
We asked for whatever wine was recommended this time and couldn't have been happier - complex flavours that matched the meal beautifully.
Obviously, we will be back again. This is simply the best place to eat.

Came across this on the first day of a five day stay in Barmouth. I eat fish and meat and my partner is vegetarian but I love to try more plant based foods to increase my wish to eat more of this type of food for both ethical and environmental reasons. The five course food in this place, newly opened and very reasonably priced for the quality of the plates (£30 for the whole 5 course taster menu) was out of this world, the food was Michelin star quality, the wine was divine and the waitress was great and informative. I absolutely loved this place and the care, quality and tastes of every plate just exploded in my mouth. I’m still thinking of this place and the food days later - this was a definite highlight of the holiday for both me and my partner. Highly recommended. Get there now as I’m sure pries will increase and I wish this place lots of success.
