Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had evening meal here on Tuesday 13th August, having pre-booked a table for 7:30pm.
Overall we had a very enjoyable meal.
There was enough choice on the menu, without feeling overwhelmed.
We were in the front part of the restaurant, and this area was simply, but nicely furnished. The room is quite small, so there was a bit of a buzz, but without feeling too close to other diners.
Staff were all pleasant and efficient.
Overall the food was good, but we felt the side dish of veg was a bit unimaginative.
We paid a little over £80 for two starters, two mains, a shared dessert and four bottles of beer.

In addition to a very good starter (haddock), we each chose a fresh lobster. For £29 we had a VERY BEAUTIFUL WHOLE lobster, perfectly cooked with garlic butter... a much heartier and much cheaper treat than what we are offered in France. A big thank you for this delightful moment. The dessert was in line with what preceded... don't hesitate, (you must reserve at least the day before)

For those of us who can’t just order ‘anything’ on the menu it is such a lovely treat to go to a restaurant prepared to adapt their dishes to suit allergies and intolerances.
The restaurant is small, with an intimate feel and the staff are very attentive.
The food is largely fish based but there are some lovely alternatives if you don’t fancy something fishy.
I had the pan fried chicken in a vegan cream and mushroom sauce with seasonal vegetables.
My husband had calamari to start and lasagne for his main.
I also had a large glass of chilled Australian Chardonnay.
The food was tasty, well cooked and the portion sizes were very generous.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The whole bill was just over fifty quid
Excellent value for money for really good food!

The lobster was clearly cooked from frozen, which is disappointing considering the name and location of the restaurant. It tasted fine but the texture was chewy. Definitely not worth the money. I then ordered a pancake, which had clearly been microwaved. I could have used it as a frisbee! What’s wrong with serving fresh food?!

Nice setting, great service but terribly let down by overpriced and poorly cooked food.
Ordered scallops which were not seared and a very small portion for the price. The two garlic prawn starters were well cooked.
For mains, my partner ordered sea bass, which arrived with uncooked skin and a basic, unseasoned cream sauce. The cabbage side was also undercooked.
My tuna steak had the opposite problem, being over cooked and very dry. It had no seasoning and tasted extremely bland. When I pointed this out at the end of the meal, I was told that this is because the chef had received complaints previously about it being undercooked.
Three starters, three mains and one beer for £93 is an absolute joke for very basic, averagely cooked food. If you’re looking for value for dinner, look elsewhere.

A nice restaurant central to Barmouth town. Nice family feel to the pub. Expensive in my opinion for average pub grub. We had x2 steaks and although cooked nice, were not at all worth £25 each (extra £2+ for sauce) I have certainly had nicer for that price.
The children's menu is great and my daughter really enjoyed the roast dinner although the cauliflower was undercooked but that's not the end of the world as the rest of the meal was pretty bang on for her.
The drinks are expensive too and we paid £4.50 for a can of Guinness!! The Snowdon craft lager is nice but at £6.50 a bottle I'd also avoid.
Overall good experience but I would not visit again due to the fact its clearly overpriced. I think the steak is worth about £15-20, certainly nothing more.
I spent £100 on this meal for x2 steaks, the pork medallions, side of onion rings, child's roast, 1 can of guiness, 1 bottle of craft lager and 1 can of coke. I have had al a carte meals that cost less than that unfortunately 😞

Tried the Sunday Lunch Menu and we were very happy with the service and the meal. The servers were friendly, knowledgable and very approachable. The meals came out hot and cooked to taste. We had two coffees with the meal and these were good quality drinks. For dessert we had the homemade apple pie and these were tasty and wholesome. We hope to be visiting again in the future.

Lovely meal and atmosphere. Food was great, lots of choice, well cooked, staff very friendly and attentive. We had the lamb shanks, mushroom and chicken stroganoff and tuna steak. The homemade veg soup for starters and treacle sponge and custard for pudding were all very nice and reasonably priced. Had no issues and couldn't fault anything. Would definitely return when back in the area. Thanks for a lovely evening.

This is a homely establishment serving tasty, well seasoned modern classics at a reasonable price. The lamb shank was tender and so flavourful as was the venison main. The duck starter is also worth a mention. They catered to a gluten allergy which is quite hard to do well (it’s easier to be vegan than gluten-intolerant in many places) so top marks for that!
Third visit and service and quality hasn’t faltered….this place does seem to have more bookingavailability compared to others in the area and I don’t know if that’s because of competition or maybe the website and exterior of the venue looking a little dated perhaps? Either way, don’t let any of that out you off - one of the better meals we’ve had in Gwynedd.

A lovely down to earth restaurant, with a good variety of dishes.
All of our choices were excellent. The portions served were also incredibly generous, and the prices were surprisingly modest for meals of such quality. What more could you want?
Highly recommended.

Owner needs to be as attentive to the food they serve and their customers as she was to the litre bottle of vodka. The food was either over cooked or tasteless and cold. We were in and out in less than 50 mins. She never even asked how I meal was, we had to tell the poor young man who was waiting on.

Myself, my husband and two children 13 and 9yrs ate here on Friday 5th August. The food was absolutely delicious, lots of variety too! The children's menu was varied and my children were spoilt for choice, they ended up sharing a cheesy garlic bread and portion of onion rings to start both of which got the thumbs up. They then opted for; pizza and carbonara which they demolished followed by Cherry cheesecake and a penguin ice cream, they both thoroughly enjoyed all their courses and gave each one a 10/10.
My husband went for Calamari to start, I opted for Scallops both were delicious. I also have coeliac and require a gluten/wheat free diet they said they could adapt most of the menu to be gluten free which is so refreshing to hear, and proves the meals are all freshly prepared. For mains my husband had the lasagne with garlic bread which he said was really tasty. I went for Lobster with new potatoes it was fantastic very tasty indeed and so reasonably priced too!
For pudding I had the warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream which again was gluten free, it also tasted lovely!
I would definitely recommend visiting here but ring and book in advance as it was full when we went, and is often fully booked which is understandable.

Starter of cod and prawn fishcake was nice, and my partners chrispy chicken pasty parcels was also nice, service from the waitress was very good... However when it came to the Sunday Roast we were very disappointed. Beef was overcooked, tasted like reheated frozen sliced beef and definitely didn't resemble freshly cooked and carved roast beef, Roast potatoes black on one side, vegetables rubbery, Yorkshire straight from Iceland frozen section. Would definitely NOT recommend for a Sunday Roast.

We ordered Mussels which had been boiled to death, almost impossible to get out of shell and was like rubber to eat. The so called creamy sauce was salt water and could only be consumed by soaking in the bread provided. The sea food in the penne has suffered a similar fate as it had been over cooked to the point of being rubbery. An extremely disappointing eating experience
