Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We have seen a few vendors of arepas, but we finally got a chance to try it. If you don't know, it is a corn based bun that is stuffed with great tasting food. I got the Reina pepiada (cheese, chicken, and avecado) and my wife tried the llanera (asado, tomato, avecado, and cheese). Both were wonderful. We had pineapple juice and they asked if we wanted with or without sugar, which is rare and great.
The owners are super kind and chatty to a guy that only speaks badly broken Spanish.

Banos, Ecuador is a beautiful destination, and the definition of a tourist trap. Like all tourist fueled locations, it can be tough to find an excellent plate of food. As an American chef who has spent a couple of months in northern South America, the simple local fare consisting of various combinations of potatoes and chicken does the job on the stomach and wallet, but is rarely something to write home about. And in a tourist hotspot like Banos, the food is consistently more expensive and somehow worse in quality. After arriving in Banos, I was purusing my dinner choices unhappily, as it all looked like the same old stuff. And then I walked by Arepas ToGo. It was small and unassuming, with the menu written in chalk on the wall. Tired of walking, I decided to commit, as I had eaten arepas before and thought, at least it's not potatoes. The guy at the counter spoke English, always nice when I don't have to subject someone to my terrible spanish. As it turns out, I had no clue what an arepa was. Simply put, it's like a taco sandwich, but with much more going on. The shell is perfectly crispy, but not greasy. The dough is soft, but not heavy. The choices of fillings are diverse, but not overwhelming. The sauces complete the picture. I finished mine in under a minute. I had to inquire further, so I struck up a conversation with the gentleman behind the counter, Raul. Himself and the owners are Venezuelan, one of the homelands of the arepa. Although he was working the counter, he was no stranger in the kitchen, and was able to answer my prodding questions about ingredients and techniques. They also have empanadas, some traditional Venezuelan dishes, and of course fresh fruit juice. In short, Arepas ToGo is a culinary jewel in an otherwise mediocre food scene. I have been twice in two days, and will not stop until I've tried everything. An absolute must while in Banos.

I had walked by this restaurant a few times during my weekend in Banos. On my last night I needed to try it, and it just so happened a Venezuelan I knew in town highly recommended it as well. The food was delicious and a great size portion, staff was so welcoming and the price was so great. Wish every town I visited had one of these for quick, delicious and economical food! I will be sure to stop in again on my next visit to Banos!

The tiny Arepas cost 3,5$ and are not as amazing as may people did comment here. The Señor who prepared mine was not layering the ingredients that good so after half eating it it was just beans. Also my Arepas tap broke way earlier then it did may in other Arepas places before which I found from Colombia all down till Uruguay. This place is overrated and for that medium quality definitely overpriced. If you want to try nice Arepas worth the money, then try them in Mindo or somewhere else again ;)

Let me preface by saying I have been craving a good arepa for years. I saw this place, looked up the reviews, and it was everything I wanted and more. The (I assume) owner was beyond patient and kind, answering my many questions and concerns about the options and dietary restrictions (GF, DF). The arepa was super filling and well worth the $4.50-- he doesn't skimp on fillings! I wish I took a picture but I ate it so fast it never crossed my mind. Cannot recommend enough for a quick meal on the go as I did or to sit and enjoy!

Amazing arepas and great prices. Very good service that makes you feel at home. The quality of the arepas is superb and include a great variety of types. They also offer empanadas and heavier dishes, as well as natural juices.

This restaurant is so good, I ate here 3 times while I was staying in Baños (twice in one day, lol). I looked this place up online before I arrived. The arepas are outstanding. As someone who has a gluten allergy and loves to travel, sometimes it is difficult finding things to safely eat in restaurants. The staff who was working each time I went, Raul, explained that the arepas were made with a gluten free flour (I believe it was corn or maca, maybe both). I also have an allergy to dairy and was able to ask for “no cheese”. Raul speaks English very well and can help with any modifications you need! The arepas are stuffed full, and a very good price. They have fresh juices available as well. Raul and I chatted while I was waiting for my arepa, he is very friendly and fun to talk with. You NEED to try this place, and I will definitely be back the next time I am in Baños.

Delicious (and very filling ) arepas, my boyfriend had the pork and cheese and I had chicken, cream cheese and cheese.
They also have amazing fruit juices ( we had pineapple and strawberry).
One arepa is more than enough for a person, they are big sized.

What a great little find. We spent 2 nights in Baños and ate twice here. The patacons are superb. The ingredients are fresh and are all lovingly prepared in store. I just wish we had more time in Baños to eat our way through the whole menu!
We both thought that this was the best food we had eaten after having spent 2 weeks so far in Ecuador... And it's Venezuelan.
If you're ever in England, reply to this review and I'll help you open a restaurant there. You'd absolutely crush it.

We fancied some Ecuadorean fast food and decided to check this place out. The food turned out to be absolutely delicious. Considering the portion sizes and quality of the food, we found it fairly priced. Very friendly staff with great English skills. The restaurant is rather small, and probably meant for take away, which is the only downside.

Best food I’ve had in Baños. Most restaurants here are pretty expensive and subpar in terms of value, but Arepas To Go was phenomenal. I came for one and ended up eating 2. If I could spend more money I’d eat here all day!!

We entered because a little furry friend who was near the entrance caught our attention, then we found out that his name is Alan, a very noble little dog that all the children who pass by that sidewalk greet. The attention and treatment that Mrs. Olga and Mr. Raul have is summed up in that we said goodbye with a kiss and hug like when you say goodbye to a friend that you don't know when you will see again. We stopped by at noon and ordered some arepas, I had a queen pepiada and my partner had a chorizo and an empanada (to try). I can't explain the seasoning they have when cooking, I can only invite you not to miss stopping by if you go to Baños. Everything was delicious and on point. To drink I ordered a paperón that was heavenly. Greetings Mr. Raul, Mrs. Olga and Mrs. Griselda, when we return to Baños it will be the first place where we will go to eat.

So we stopped in here for lunch during our very first few minutes in Banos. We saw the great reviews and thought we would give it a try. It was great! First of all the staff were super nice. They helped us navigate the menu after seeing we were newbies to Venezuelan food. Between the two of us, we ordered one Reina pepiada arepa and the chachapa with chorizo. They were both huge! We really could have gotten away with only ordering one. The food was super tasty and we loved the sauces on the side. It definitely lived up to the hype!! Highly recommend stopping here when in Banos.
