About
1 MICHELIN Star: High quality cooking, worth a stop!
There are very few people who haven’t heard of the Don Julio restaurant and Pablo Rivero, the owner-chef at one of the world’s best “parrillas”. Walking through the door of this restaurant, where it is always difficult to book a table, is akin to immersing yourself in the culinary culture of Argentina, and enables you to understand its passion for meat, which is seen here as a family legacy (Pablo’s grandmother was a butcher and his parents cattle breeders). They have attained this level of excellence thanks to the exclusive mixed ageing process used, their assiduous selection of meat (Hereford and Angus breeds), and their concept of sustainability and regenerative breeding. The philosophy here is that of a classic steakhouse, although this idea has evolved to include added gastronomic undertones. The meat display counter is a truly spectacular sight, enhanced by the “V-shaped” grill to ensure that no fat drips on to the embers to alter the flavour from smoke from the white quebracho charcoal. The wine cellar, which is focused around Argentinian wines, includes some real jewels!

We can discuss whether it is worth spending more than 100 euros per person on a dinner but certainly not on the quality of the food and the whole proposal. Best meat ever eaten with a tender steak despite being 3 fingers thick. Up everything else is even the chips are at the top. If they make you wait outside for a few minutes, despite the reservation or you are in a queue waiting for a table to open, they offer you excellent quality wine d excellent empanadas cooked on the spot. Suggested if you fancy a level experience

An experiance that just about lives up to the hype. An advanced booking meant an indoor seat to savour the true atmosphere of the restaurant. High class services is hard to maintain with such a big demand and turnover of customers, so that element is lacking. Food and wine was high quality and whilst at the top end of the price point for eating in Buenos Aires it didn’t feel over priced. A worthwhile visit.

Spectacular food, but the very high price and heat, interrupted the experience. We order lomo, ancho with fries and arrows and cheese empanadas with onion (AR$5000) and meat (AR$7700). All excellent but prepare the pocket - Lomo 500g AR$99000 and Ancho 500g AR$77100!!! List of wines with off-market prices. I booked months in advance but only had the option - balcony when I made the online reservation and this became a problem because Buenos Aires is very hot. They served sparkling and ice cream to soften the heat without charging “officially”.

This restaurant was such a disappointment. We were in Buenos Aires for 48 hours and several people recommended Don Julio’s. First it took forever to get a reservation which we thought was a positive thing. Our reservation was for 9:30 and only outside seating, which we were not apposed to however our table was literally on the street where cars came flying by. Now to the food….. their cuts of meat were so bad we couldn’t eat them. They were tough and they had no flavor. But to top off the evening we paid over $500.00 (which that was not a concern) but the food was horrible. The service was awful they were so busy that they forgot half the stuff we ordered. I believe this a tourist trap.

For being in the Top 10 -Highly disappointing and having eaten at a few Michelin rated restaurants in Argentina my expectations was disappointed They just turn tables here and waiters are of poor calibre ,hardly speak English which we found odd as they cater to a large international clientele.Waiter spilled wine on our table when pouring and never replaced table cover or placed a napkin on red wine stain-Waiters was so busy concentrating on setting up new tables for service they paid no attention to our requests The best thing in terms of food was the complimentry empanadas. It was a cool night and we sat outside but for some reason all the outside fans we turned to the highest level which we asked to have turned off and so did the table next to us .It cooled the food down faster and made sitting there unpleasant I eat at a meat recommended Resturant 2 days earlier which will knock Don Julio backwards - We did a food tour during the day and eat at Don Julio sister restaurant a block away where service was better and food better although it has no recognised rating I plan on visiting Argentina again but not Don Julio I have eaten at 10% of the top 50 Resturants in the last 2 years world wide and Don Julio is not rated number 10 in my opnion

The meat was good (it had a lot of fat, but I liked it), we were well served, but it took a long time for the meat to come. There was a lot of queues, even with reservation. The amount charged is absurd, we spend about R$600, dividing a steak between a couple and drinking water. The restaurant is good, but it's not all that to make up for the charge. We went to other restaurants of the same level (or even better) for half the price. I do not recommend and would not go back there.

He was with his family. Go to the star of Meshelin. The result: the hall has terrible acoustics, a noise like the Moscow subway when the train approaches, no one at the table or the waiters can be heard. The food is common, the legend of marvellous meat has been scattered completely, at home on a mangala fire Prime Beef - it won't be worse. Their main feature, wonder, tomatoes (I can't rust), I wonder if they were given by Meshelin? Prices are high - quality and content for a simple restaurant in the city. But, you have to praise the restaurant marketer... know how to lie beautifully... the restaurant has a line, like we've had a lot of... Bottom line: get ready for the usual meals... with tomatoes... yelling to be heard and the price tag of a good and expensive place, well, don't be fascinated by the commercials and the Michelin star, lest you be disappointed... The Russians who organized the trip, who live in Buenos Aires, were advised not to take anyone there and never...

Before going to Don Julio, I read with some concern the varying reviews, but, thankfully, in the end our meal was wonderful from start to finish, a truly memorable evening. As there has already been a ton of prose written about Don Julio, I’ll bullet point key observations: - Reservations: You absolutely need to get a reservation way in advance. As soon as you know you’ll be going to Buenos Aires, go to Don Julio’s website and try to book a reservation. Even if it’s before the roughly 80 days when you can actually reserve the table, you can/should enter your e-mail address to be notified when reservations open up for your desired date/time - this is called a early-access request. Then, when you get the e-mail notifying you that reservations are open for your requested date/time (“Convert your early-access request into a reservation”), immediately go and book a table. But it doesn’t end there - you will get two additional e-mails as your reservation approaches, one to confirm, and then another to confirm again and enter a credit card in case you are a no-show. Obviously, keep an eye out for those in your inbox and respond promptly. - Arriving: Arrive a few minutes early and expect that you will wait in line to check in for your reservation - for our opening 7p reservation, we waited maybe 7 minutes in line to get to the receptionist. Happily, every now and then a waiter will come by and offer a complimentary glass of spumanti (a carbonated wine drink, like champagne but a bit sweet) to make the time go by faster. - Ordering: If you’re not sure about which steak to order, ask your server to take you up to the central open grill where the different cuts are laid out, to show you what’s what. - Dining: Note that the steaks tend to be lightly salted, at least compared to the sodium-heavy US standard. We found that adding a nice pinch of salt, thoughtfully provided as a matter of course in a small bowl alongside criollo and chimichurri, really brought out the amazing quality of the beef. I might be wrong, but I suspect some of the other reviews mentioning lackluster flavor was due to the lighter salting. - Service: Our waiter was super friendly and responded enthusiastically to any request we had, like additional oil for our bread, adjusting the table, etc. Just be aware that the service can be more akin to the Argentinian style, where they consider it rude to pester or rush you, so if you want anything, e.g. another glass of wine or the check at the end of the meal, just get your server’s attention and politely ask. Unlike the US, they won’t constantly check on you and then plop a check on your table to turn it over ASAP. Is it pricey compared to other parrillas in Buenos Aires? Absolutely, though it’s only mid to upper-range by New York standards. Does it cater to tourists? Yes, at least based on the clientele when we visited. Really, though, the bottom line is that our dinner was the one of the best experiences we’ve had dining out. The lovely ambiance, the amazing food, the thoughtful little extras like the spumanti, and the top-notch service made it a lovely night to remember.

Good food, but 150000 was overcharged. Luckily we noticed this and got a new bill. When we mentioned this to our taxi driver he told us that they try this more often with tourists. Not okay! Service was poor. Food was good, but locals told us that you can eat cheaper in other restaurants for at least the same quality meat...

Restaurant praised by all the guides, local or French agencies...I told myself that we couldn't miss this. Pre-Reservation taken 2 months in advance, confirmed only a few days before then request for re-confirmation on D-2 then D -1, specifying that it would only be held for 15'. Arriving on time, there was a crowd in front of the restaurant...we had to wait for a table to become available despite reservations; of course, unlimited sparkling wine but more than 30 minutes of waiting and again because like other people before us, we expressed our dissatisfaction. On the menu, the prices are much higher than those that can be found photographed on the Internet and much higher than in other establishments of the same category; the portions are huge (without being told when ordering), we leave some on the plate...and we come out feeling disgusted! Furthermore, we were not overwhelmed by the meats, which were different for my husband and me. In short, a big disappointment for an evening that I was really enjoying...a fashionable place, with a friendly exterior and exorbitant prices! Go your way.

Meals with friends 12 years after testing this restaurant. With a Michelin star now attached to the property we expected an additional experience, especially considering the rates that have multiplied by 10. Inflation does not get the better of everything. Don Julio is a good meat restaurant very well cooked. A mixed reception, a service that wants to gourmet but is not at all there. A semblance to justify the prices. But when we see at the end of the service the gastro boxes go out on a cart and fall in the middle of the road with meat in front of the remaining customers. I don't understand how the manager of this restaurant can accept that. I would not detail all the breaches of the minimum principle of proper service. (Comment from the waiter on our wine order, waiter in the guest toilets...) Moreover, as for the menu and main course. We took the corto menu. The meat is well prepared but as for the filling, the consistency of the menu of the story that should be told there is none, but really nothing. How can the Michelin guide reward an establishment like this, on what criteria? What a disappointment. The property is surfing a reputation that does not match the level of service presented this evening and undoubtedly on other nights. Only the bill is up to it

The restaurant no longer accepts reservations via the website, but many people manage to book, I don't know what criteria was used, whether it is IQ (who recommends it), anyway... 3 months before going we tried to make a reservation, we only managed to get a pre-booking which was canceled close to date. The trick is, if you want to go to dinner, get there around 4:40pm/50pm and wait to put your name on the list, a couple we met there arrived at 5pm and got a table for 7pm. Unfortunately, we arrived at 6pm and were told that our table estimate was for 11pm (truly absurd). You receive a RESERVATION stub and need to show up at the scheduled time, and you can wait on site enjoying Chandon sparkling wine and empanadas (complimentary). We were staying a few meters from the restaurant and could even go back to the Airbnb and wait there… but we decided to wait and were called at 7:50 pm. DESPITE ALL THE WAITING, we thought it was worth it, as the meat (ojo de steak) was perfect, juicy and melting in the mouth and so were the fried papas... we didn't order wine, as it was our last day and we were boarding early in the morning, but it was worth it worth knowing. There we ate some of the best meat on the trip, if not the best! We ordered the ojo de steak (500g), papas fries and sparkling water… the bill came to around 380 reais for two people without wine.

Disappointment Honestly, Booking is a problem, once they confirmed our reservation at 3pm we arrived and they upgraded us at 4pm…. They sent us to an improvised table on the second floor, the service was very slow, through no fault of the waiters there were simply too many diners to serve… An OVERRATED place, the food took a long time and was very mediocre, the main duck, a Beef Ancho, simply arrived cold. To start, the 2 cuts we ordered were not available, the waitress had to tell us that they could serve us. The prices are very high, you compare it with other better level restaurants and it is 300% higher. We arrived with high expectations and left very disappointed.

The bill exceeded US$ 500, the cost is low because our family group of 5, includes 2 children and an elderly person who cannot eat red meat. The meats of excellent quality and very good preparation but there was no alternative chicken or fish for the elderly person who accompanied us. In the premises we were given a table outside and in the heat of the day it was very difficult to be comfortable, the attention of the staff good almost at all times but when we withdrew we asked for some water before leaving, they reached us only a glass, indicating that they can only give that for all 5 people. The preparation very good, but not excellent. The meats were cooled twice and when we asked for a metal sheet to heat it, on both occasions it was so cold, it could be touched by hand. Conclusion does not merit the awards received.

Hello! I went to Don Julio with my wife, on 08/11/2023, already prepared, having read several previous reports. As it is impossible to make a reservation, we arrived at 10am to put our name on hold and were 4th on the list, being told that we should be at the restaurant from 11am to be called at any time. We saw that those who arrived around 10:30 found a longer queue, and by 11:30 there was no way to make a reservation. The tables were freed up and we were called around 12pm - a wait we could already imagine. The service in the restaurant is 'ok' - it wasn't the best and warmest service we've had, but it's not the driest Argentine standard. We received a portion of bread with some sauces (the chimichurri one was the best we ate in Argentina!). We ordered 1 provoleta for the starter and, for the main, 1 Ojo de Bife with mashed potatoes. The portions are great (something common in any restaurant in Buenos Aires), so this amount was enough for my wife and I to share and be satisfied. We shared a bottle of sparkling water. The provoleta was simply 'good', no more, no less; It's not very big (but I think if it were, it would be cloying) and it reminds me of well-seasoned curd cheese. The Ojo de Bife is VERY good - quality meat, well made, seasoned only with salt. I could easily say that it is one of the best meats we have eaten in our lives, perhaps the best. But it's not that far ahead of other restaurants in Buenos Aires. But it's really good. I found the puree very tasty, it's lumpy (not that veil), rustic, well seasoned; My wife didn't like it anymore. It depends on taste. We don't drink wine (as my wife doesn't drink that much), but the menu is quite expensive, so go prepared if you want! Our bill came to $31,615.00 pesos - at the rate we got, R$263.45 (1 peso = 120 reais) + 10%. FINAL ASSESSMENT: it's worth more for the experience, after all, you will be eating in what is considered the best meat restaurant in the world, which will soon receive a Michelin star (the guide has just arrived in Argentina). Regarding the food, it is delicious, well served, but it is not that superior to other restaurants in Buenos Aires, such as La Cabrera or San Juanino. We enjoyed having this experience, and I think it's really cool to go once, because of what it represents. But repeat the trip? Then I think it's not worth it - Buenos Aires has many meat restaurants of very similar quality and much better value for money.

Best known as the largest neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Palermo is divided into different quarters, each with its own unique identity. The high-end quarter is Palermo Chico, characterized by magnificent mansions, regal avenues, and exclusive apartment buildings, and home to the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), a favourite amongst locals. The largest park in the city, the Bosques de Palermo, is Palermo's most famous landmark and a popular destination for nature walks, picnics, rollerblading, and cycling. The scene becomes much trendier in Palermo Soho, a hip area known for its cool cafés and unique design stores, filled with shoppers on weekends; and Palermo Hollywood, renowned for the numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs, which make it the preferred spot for nights out and special occasions.
