We have been coming to Luz / Lagos now for nearly 7 years (sometimes 3 or 4 times a year). This is the best restaurant in Burgau, Luz and Lagos. If staying in any of the three towns, this is a must visit. The food is extremely fresh and full of flavour. All made to order. George and his team even specifically changed their dishes to accommodate our requests. They couldn’t do more for their customers. Superb service backed up with quality food. The prawns to start are incredible and a must try. Two of us had the prawn pasta and the chef added garlic and chilli on our request which was to die for. Another of our party had the piri piri chicken and another had the monkfish casserole. Every single one of our party ranked the meal 10/10.

Always go here whenever I'm out in Burgau. Even hired the whole place for my 21st meal and party back in 2011. Jorge is a great host, makes you feel welcome and knows his menu inside out.
All the food beautifully seasoned and just tastes fantastic.
I love the clams and also the duck. Always fresh fish and local produce available.
Also make use of large wine glasses by filling up on wine haha!!

Booking is essential in almost all the restaurants and bars in Burgau, so it took a couple of days to get in here, but well worth the wait.
A small, cosy restaurant where you can see through to the compact kitchen when the staff are wonderfully at work.
We went straight to mains, grilled swordfish, steak topped with bacon coupled with saute potatoes and pork steak in a mushroom and white wine sauce, simply delicious!
Puddings of crèpes and a homemade chocolate mousse were also devoured, great food, great service, what more can you ask for!

This is the first time visiting and after reading reviews before I booked I was hoping it was going to tick all the boxes. However service was severely lacking which to me is a complete let down when dining out. Such a shame as the food was decent, not amazing but average and the whole dining experience could have been positive if the waiter had gone through even the basics. The restaurant is small and only a few tables were taken so there should have been no excuse not to have a good standard of service however we were continually ignored. We had to chase for condiments, drinks, and then to hear desert menu and order and finally the bill. No pleasantries checking on us in between either. Poor! Would not return.

We booked a table for 6 and was absolutely astonished by how good the food was here.
The Cataplana has to be the best in the Algarve, the Peri-Peri chicken is the tastiest that we have had over the course of our 3 week visit to the area, the children's chicken meal is something totally different to all others that we have tried.. Reading previous reviews of poor quality/frozen food we would totally disagree... The food can be seen being prepared and cooked and is worth the price paid.. Thank you George family and staff đź‘Ť

We had reservations for dinner. We arrived on time but the wait staff had not arrived yet. They arrived shortly after we did and a waitress pointed us to a seat. For quite awhile we were the only customers. The service was very brusque and there was not attempt made to interact with us at all except to take our order and deliver it to our table.
When another couple arrived the wait staff made a real fuss over them. They asked how they were, talked with them, showed them a nice bottle of wine. The staff interacted with them all evening. As other customers arrived the greeting was not as infusive but the staff did at least interact with them and talked to them. We shared an appetizer of tomato salad. It was decent – not amazing. My husband had a pork dish. I had the pepper steak and it was decent. At no time did our server ask how our meals were or if we needed anything. When we finished our meal the dessert menu was just dropped off at the table without any sort of comment. We were not asked if we wanted another glass of wine or coffee after dinner.
This is supposed to be a nice upscale restaurant but we were in and out in less than an hour. We shared an appetizer, had a glass of wine each and both had an entrée.
It was cold inside and I’m not referring to the temperature. I would not return. I felt like an unwelcome guest who had overstayed his welcome. All this for expensive average food.

Absolutely delicious food and excellent service at this wonderful family run restaurant. We were lucky enough to visit twice during our one week stay in Burgau. We would not hesitate to return next time we are in Burgau. Lovely Amelia recommended the cataplana (with monkfish) - Amelia assured us that we would love it and Amelia was right! Thank you.

This place is just excellent. I've reviewed it before but I have to do another. If you're in Burgau then it's a must. Excellent food and excellent staff. Jorge is a superb host and his assistants are just as friendly and helpful. Wine is good we had the house rosé. We stuck to the seafood, mussels and swordfish, and previously the prawns. Try it and you won't regret it. Make sure you reserve a table, it can get busy.

Always good food and friendly service but even better this year. Loved the Piri Piri Prawns or Chicken Wings for starters followed by Monkfish Casserole or Portuguese Steak for mains. Need two to share a Cataplana and noticed visitors returning from Luz to repeat the experience! Had a really good atmosphere and even with a full restaurant, service and food perfect- excellent hosts George and daughter, perfect food - George’s mum……a real family effort 👏👏🥰

This restaurant is still our favourite restaurant in Burgau, we have been enjoying the food and hospitality for many years, and hopefully will continue to do so for many more. Usually open from April until October. The menu is traditionally Portuguese with modern presentation. The wines are good and the house wine is great and reasonable.
Thanks to the Esquina team for a delicious 2024 season of good food.

Busy period and managed to squeeze us in . Never felt rushed just welcome . The food was served quickly and the quality was excellent . The whole thing felt and was family run all working together to achieve and serve . Brilliant teamwork

What an amazing meal we had last night. Food and service excellent. Hadn’t bn for some time but it certainly didn’t disappoint!
We had mushrooms to start followed by piri piri chicken and duck.

This is the second time I have dined here. The first time the restaurant was absolutely chocker; this time, owing to various restrictions the tables are fairly well-spaced as well as fewer than normal. The grilled shrimps for the first course were a tour de force. The fish main course was cooked perfectly. Well-pleased.

We ate here three time in two week, each fantastic food and fantastic service. Jorge and the team do a brilliant job making you feel comfortable and welcome.

What more can I say, this place is great. We're back in Burgau for the first time in 3 years and Esquina never fails to excel. Great food and the atmosphere is brilliant. Jorge is a great host, friendly and easy going. The food never disappoints. Highly recommended
