Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been to the Island Cafe restaurant at the Turbine Hotel a couple of times now and the quality has been very consistent, the atmosphere cozy and their staff is super friendly and service minded. The juicy burgers are on special every Saturday: 2...burgers with fries for just R170. And they are good! Special mention for the baked apple pudding with whiskey apple compote and smoked spicy pistachio praline for desert, as well as the boozy milkshakes they currently have on the menu. Delicious! Go check it out. You will be back for more.More

We have been visiting Knysna for over 20 years and decided to book dinner this evening at the Island Cafe. We were greeted very warmly by the staff and our waiter Siya who showed us to the table. The menu has a nice choice of...starters and main courses, not extensive but in our opinion provided plenty of choice. There was also a special of fish and chips which included a glass of red or white wine. Our order was taken promptly and efficiently in a very friendly manner, polite and excellent interaction with us. Our starters were excellent, Prawn and Avocado, soup, Oysters and salad. All of us agreed our meals were beautifully presented and very nice flavours. Our mains again were excellent, fish and chips and seafood BoKaap curry, none of it could be faulted. Overall the food was really excellent but in addition the service by our waiter Siya was outstanding. Furthermore the manager and other staff were attentive throughout. We enjoyed our evening here so much we have rebooked to visit in a weeks time. Thank you all for a very enjoyable evening.More

I can highly recommend eating at this restaurant. The food was delicious, the surroundings were cool and quirky, and the service was great. The restaurant is built into an old power station and is part of The Turbine Hotel. We would definitely stay here if...we ever return to Knysna.More

I tried to have dinner but returned both starter and main course. Both arrived together which was the first mistake. Starter was a small pasta dish - unfortunately completely overcooked and glued together, more mush than pasta. Main dish was line fish (fresh???) with broccoli...(raw) and some unidentifiable purée. No taste and just awful. The service was lovely and professional throughout which was the only positive experience. I also didn’t have to pay for the meal (which I didn’t eat) - so that was fair.More

We did not have an enjoyable experience at Island Cafe and would certainly not visit this restaurant again The sirloin steak was inedible and when referred back to the Chef an excuse was made that it was the steak suppliers fault that the steak was...inedible My wife had the Pork Belly which was also not good was certainly not a traditional Pork Belly either So overall I would recommend you find another Knysna restaurant to enjoy a sumptuous meal and avoid the Island Cafe at the Turbine Boutique Hotel Theisen Island Roy MoultonMore

Ruined by rude manger: GREG COLEMON. So the place is lovely. We ate and drank at leisure and as we were getting the bill, a manager called Greg Coleman walked up and started to intimidate us: he started by saying , do you know there...is a 2500 rand fine for having a dog on this deck. There was no sign and he had been there for ages watching us eat and drink, all too happy to take our money in a place that was otherwise almost empty. He went on an anti animal tirade and was incredibly abrupt: zero people skills. We assured him we were getting the bill and we were leaving, he said good. We are animal lovers and take our small dog everywhere (she has done the garden route thrice). With that said, we more than understand some venues are not pet friendly and we don’t go there. When we arrived one dog was at the cafe and others were walking around. We were welcomed and the manager Greg Coleman saw us. A previous venue was upfront that dogs were not allowed and that was fine. Island cafe happily let us spend money before management came to insult us. This guy has power problems and I feel sorry for his workers. As a member of the lgbtq+ community I also felt victimised and felt he was asking us to leave. Don’t do business with Greg Coleman.More
