Nestled in the fertile Constantia Valley lies a 300-year old wine estate, Groot Constantia and on it, Simon's restaurant, where we celebrate the riches of the Cape winelands by transforming the freshest ingredients into memorable meals. Revel in the Cape Town summer by dining al fresco on our terrace with panoramic views of the Groot Constantia vineyards. Savour the wines of the valley or enjoy our wide selection of craft beers. As the weather turns, join us inside where we like to light a giant fire on chilly days
Booked telephonically on Tuesday for Saturday at 11h00 in the main dining area with the fireplace.
Received an sms confirming all of the above.
My friend arrived before me and was told there was no booking and was seated in the conservatory where there were...no other patrons at that stage.
I arrived and showed the booking to the hostess and asked to be moved accordingly.
Was told that there was an error and they did not have a table for us - even though the restaurant was quite.
After 15 minutes they took us upstairs where there was going to be a private birthday party and then realised there was no seating for us.
Took us back downstairs where we showed them all the empty tables and they seated us in the main dining area as confirmed.
After 5 minutes we were approached and told that the waiter seated us incorrectly and that we could stay but had to vacate by 12h15 - leaving us 45 minutes to order and eat. We declined and proceeded to order.
Thereafter we were approached 2x to ask us to be seated elsewhere!
We declined and stood our ground.
Then the "manager" approahed us again - this still with many, many tables standing vacant, and asked if he could offer us complimentary coffees on condition that we move but this time to 2 seats with a small side table.
We are beyond disgusted!!!
This was totally unacceptable and clearly they made an error and were making it our problem. We were harassed continuasly. At one stage extra decor was just dumped on our table and left there whilst they seated other guests.
Such a pity as the revamp is absolutely gorgeous, the food and wine superb and even our poor waiter was lovely.
We paid for our meals and drinks in full and no apologies were given - the hostess and staff conveying the messages to us were quite brittle and unapologetic at all times.More
We have been coming to Simon's for a number of years now and it never fails to please us. It has been recently re-vamped to a very high standard, with expensive fittings, chandeliers etc. but retained a reasonable price range of food and wines. Very...well worth a visit. West coast mussels and salt and pepper calamari are excellent, but the sweet of home made carrot cake was just divine!More
Popped into Simons for an early Sunday lunch after a walk in the vineyards. Wonderful cosy atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. Great food, Prego chicken will put most Portuguese eateries to shame. Beers are icecold and served in a frosted glass, always a great indicator....Wiil definitely be back.More
We were looking for a Mother's Day venue and having walked her dogs past the restaurant a few weeks ago, my sister suggested we try Simon's again. From the time I booked to when we arrived, their service was impeccable. Confirmed booking via sms, phonecall...on Saturday confirming the booking, and then a reminder sms yesterday morning.
I requested outside seating under the trees next to the entrance and sure enough we were seated exactly there (so many times requests get ignored). The restaurant has new owners and has undergone a complete transformation - it is magical and extremely beautiful.
The menu has such an incredible selection and different choices for everyone. The wine list is awesome and being Mother's Day we chose the Groot Constantia Rose. Service by our waiter was outstanding - he brought an ice bucket for my flowers without me asking. We took our time ordering - enjoying a family catch-up and the waiter let us take our time. After deliberating for so long, we ordered two butter chicken curries (pronounced delicious by my curry-loving daughter) which came with rice and a roti, two beef burgers (my husband didn't talk once when eating 😂) with thin, cripsy chips and two grilled hake. I haven't had a hake dish so delicious. The fish was served on beautifully cooked vegetables and baby potatoes and then covered with a sublime lemon butter sauce. The portions are all generous. Two chocolate mousses were only just managed.
It was such an incredible afternoon that we can't wait to go back.
Thank you Simon's for making my Mother's Day lunch absolutely special.More
Very good service and a quality wine list. The menu is well priced and our choice of chicken burger, butter chicken curry, mushroom linguine and artichoke linguine was well presented, excellent tasting and very well priced. Our waiter was very attentive as was the manager....Back soon. PS dogs welcome in the outdoors area.More

Hi Vanessa. I think I might have been the reviewer who talked about Simon's Restaurant as I had my 70th birthday there on November 04, 2017. Google Simon and you will find their website - I am not allowed to quote it here - and the functions co-ordinator is Dawn [you can also get her phone number and email address off the contacts tab - again I am not allowed to quote it here]. She works unusual hours but is very helpful. I used a function room and not the restaurant itself - I had 70/75 guests. I am almost certain they will be open on Easter Monday but obviously they must answer that question. On the question of price, I was offered 3 or 4 menu options at different prices from around R350 to about R450 a head [please don't hold me to those figures as 100% accurate]. And I was told that I could have a cash bar or pay for a full bar or something in between. My advice is contact them asap and I am sure they will give you the info you need. Hope it all comes together and that you have a great birthday. Simon Cooper
