Fantastic spot, the staff are very attentive & friendly. However, I ordered the eggs Benedict, my bacon was very undercooked it was not nice for someone who likes very crispy back which is personal preference, I really do not like to complain unless it's inedible for me. I did that & the bacon came back only a fraction more cooked, this was not very nice, I would have expected the bacon to come back more cooked than previously. This was not the case. Aside from that everything else was absolutely perfect, the eggs were to perfection, my partners meal was perfect she was very impressed having not had chicken waffles before. Great time, unfortunately I could only give 3 stars due to the bacon.

Three waitresses couldn't find our booking which I'd made with the owner the previous week & confirmed with a girl on the day. Service really wasn't great all night. It seemed a lot of young, untrained staff who were doing the best they knew how.
Meals were expensive for what they were. $19 for crumbed camembert!! Fries were just like from a fish & chip shop. $33 for the chicken dish in photo (normally comes with veges) so you'd expect it to be pretty amazing. It was tasty though!
Fantastic spot overlooking the bay.

The location of this restaurant is excellent with views out over Caroline Bay. Fortunately the weather was great so we were able to sit outside, enjoy the sun, and enjoy the great views. The staff were excellent and always smiling and in a great mood.
My wife had the excellent pan fried fish of the day. I went with the pulled beef burger. To be honest I was expecting a slow cooked beef pieces that fell apart. I don't think it had been cooked anywhere near long enough as there was still large fatty bits and the meat did not fall apart. But it was tasty when you worked around the fatty bits.
We shared a desert or chocolate brownie smothered in chocolate and other naughty stuff. It was good, but dissapointed that it was clearly two shop bought brownie biscuits, fresh out of their plastic wrapers, covered in shop bought sauces. Come on guys, put a bit of effort in to this as I could easily have done this at home!!
The drink selection was very good, especially as they had guest beers to choose from.
Overall we had a good meal - more like a 3.5 rating. But I would return if I was in Timaru again.

Brilliant Bay Hill Brewery Bar
We were in search of a coffee for myself and an ice cream for our 6 and 4 year old after playing down at C Play.
There weren’t any cafes on this stretch of road and our little wheels were falling off after a long search.
We asked the waiter if they did ice cream on the off chance it was on the menu – since this was a bar and restaurant, rather than a café.
As it happened they did, and it was an ice cream sundae for children.
My children had never actually ever had an ice cream sundae and when their desserts arrived (most promptly) their little eyes opened very wide and they couldn’t believe what was in front of them – ice cream with chocolate sauce and hundreds and thousands! Oh they decadence! Haha.
They enjoyed them immensely and I did too of my coffee.
Great views of Caroline Bay.
Great and friendly service.
Had a few helpful tips and advice for local things for us to do in the area whilst on holiday.
Thank you for a nice visit.

It's just not ok to charge $35 + for a sub standard meal. They forgot salad or coleslaw on two meals, no dressing. Staff in the kitchen constantly eating bowls of fries in plain sight. No one checked on our meals. Plates removed 30 minutes after we'd finished our meals & moved the plates to the end of the table. No dessert menus offered, we had to find a waitress & ask. No drink refills offered. They weren't busy either. Great view though!

Staff need a lesson in customer service, we were pestered until we ordered. I have never experienced anything like this. The garlic bread was green and didn’t taste anything like garlic bread, we were never given cutlery, side plates or serviettes, until after mains came out. Food was subpar, probably would’ve forgiven the quality of the food but as our experience with the wait staff was extreme, I wouldn’t be back

Lunch with a Caesar salad which consisted of dried chicken breast too much dressing resulting in limp lettuce oversized inedible croutons. But the Avon was delicious.
My husband had seafood chowder full of pasta too much cream with the fish hard to find. Nothing like we’ve ever had. Pasta doesn’t belong in seafood chowder.
My uncle had a half size of very chewy overcooked veal but the chips were edible.
We won’t be back although I enjoyed the Monteith black.
Suggest they hire a cook

Ordered a chicken parmigiana and the chicken was red and looked undercooked I complained and then waitress took the plate to the chef and came back and said the chef tested it and its fine the reason its pink is because its thigh. I thought it looked like breast.. I continued with the meal and cut the chicken open more to discover more red undercooked looking parts and I complained a second time and they once again said its fine.. I could not eat it, we weren't offered a refund either so I was quite disappointed. Even if it was cooked why present chicken that looks raw? if you want people to eat it? Disgusting!!!

The Bay Hill Brewery ticks all the boxes for me....great location, friendly staff, a menu to suit all tastes and a relaxed vibe. You can call in any time of day and have anything from a coffee and a muffin to a full delish meal.
We visit quite often and really appreciate the way the staff accommodate my partners dietary requirements and always check with the kitchen.
Meals are always tasty and well presented and love the way side salads come with a bottle of dressing so that you can choose how much you want.

Had barely sat down when the waiter was there telling us the specials. I hadn't had a chance to greet everyone already at the table and was thinking about a drink not what I was going to eat. For the rest of the evening we had to call him over when we wanted something as he was more interested in his phone that was on the counter behind the bar, so had his back turned to us. Meals were average, one person ordered pork belly bites, waiter wrote down bites and she got served fish bites. Overpriced for what options are there, and I don't mind paying good money as long as you get good food. If they want to keep those prices the menu needs to be looked at. Won't be rushing back.

We chose Bay Hill from a recommendation by the motel manager. Clearly she has never eaten here. After appalling service with the waiter trying to find the ‘right’ menu, I ordered the crispy chicken with salad. The chicken was a greasy schnitzel that was not enjoyable. The salad was a reluctant collection of sad vegetables that wasn’t even dressed with a lick of oil. I mean how hard is it to screw up a pub meal? The waiter was not that interested either. Big mistake, would not eat here again.

We started our day with a delicious breakfast from Bay Hill Brewery. We are from out of town.
Very impressed by service, excellent coffee and the breakfast choices were great. We ordered crepes and waffles - extra bacon was extremely generous and hash browns were crunchy and golden!
The beachside vibe and atmosphere was super enjoyable too!
Can’t add a photo because we ate it all 🤤😜.
A must visit!

Location is excellent, food was delicious although on the more expensive side.
The young blonde waitress kept taking our plates as soon as we'd eaten, one lady was still chewing!! I asked if she could please wait until we had all finished eating then she said do you want this plate back?? (A dirty plate she'd just picked up) as she walked away she rolled her eyes - utter rudeness!!
The fish meal had one tiny potato, when we asked if there is meant to be more she muttered who thought they'd be such trouble over potatoes tonight!
The young lady at the till was just lovely. Shame as good service costs nothing & leaves a lasting impression.

Came in for lunch.
Service was prompt but not overly friendly.
Lunch was served quickly. There were 7 of us and all our meals came at the same time.
I had the chicken burger which was okay but nothing special, the fries were just like ones you would get at a chip shop, a little dissapointed they were jacket or beer battered style. The pasta dish was nice by all accounts, the fried chicken was 'alright', again, nothing made it particularly special.
Most of us had desserts and I must admit the crumble was lovely and presented nicely.
Sadly for such a gorgeous location I felt that the standard of food would be higher. The restaurants along the bay hill used to be the best Timaru had to offer, now, not so much.
I feel that overall it did not feel like value for money.

I was a single diner and this place is designed for groups (tables were for 4,6, or 8). I was offered a bar stool at a table for 6, said no, and was seated at a dining table for 6. My chosen wine from the wine list was unavailable (telling customers to read the small print is not an answer for anyone in a service industry). The meal leaned towards quantity over quality ( 20 carrots on a plate; seriously??) I felt unwelcome and decided to leave early. The manager then told me I must have been grumpy before I arrived not to enjoy myself. I'm surprised that he forgot to ask if it was the wrong time of the month! This was a visit to last century.
