The Fish burger you wont regret

As always service is great and friendly. I have never had a fish burger before and Monica (owner) suggested I try this - new on their menu - and said i would not be disappointed. We'll she was right. The layers of taste was really distinct and so full of flavour. There was no fishy smell the addition of a sauce and pickle gave it a bit of crunch which was good.

This place is perfect !! Atmosphere is chill and the staff is friendly and professional. Especially they know what they are doing and what exactly they are serving which is actually making a good customers satisfaction. Food is pretty good and also have a good selection of wines and tap beers which worths a perfect experience for a customer and to have a wonderful time. Trurly recomended!!

We live in Orewa and are a retired couple, married for 54 years who like to treat ourselves every Thursday night, our dinner and date night. We have tried, over a period, most of the restaurants in Orewa and have settled on the Ship n Anchor, now our favorite eatery over the last two years. The food and service is consistently good. Our favorite is the eye filet, wrapped in bacon that is covered with a lavish mushroom sauce, that is addictive. Love this place and that you can buy a lovely piece of steak for less than $40.

A disappointment

Having been to this restaurant a few times in the past and had good food, my husband and I went today for the Sunday roast lunch which today was roast lamb. I am afraid that the restaurant let themselves down this time as the meal was terrible. The lamb was very dry, cut thickly so was tough, there was no gravy served unless you wanted mint sauce with in, I don't like mint sauce but do enjoy gravy, so this was not available. The vegetables were dried up and the meal was cold. I sent my meal back requesting that it be warmed up but the young lady obviously told the manager who came to see what our complaint was. After informing him, he did agree that we should not pay for the meal and just pay for the drinks and the prawns we had had. My husband did eat his but did not enjoy it at all as he had the same complaints as I did. As he had eaten part of his (he had to leave half of it) I did say I would pay for his meal. The manager was very pleasant and there was no aggravation in this matter, the restaurant was clean and spacious with a calm and pleasant atmosphere, staff were as helpful as they could be.

The only positives from a recent visit to this restaurant were the wine menu and the table service. Despite a reasonable choice of dishes on the menu our first choices were unavailable. We settled on one Golden Chicken and one Chicken Risotto. To say that both these dishes were "unaccomplished" was no understatement. The GC was partly overcooked and partly undercooked to the point of being raw. Potentially dangerous in chicken. The CR was an mess of glutinous rice with large chunks of chicken, mushroom floating on some oily slimy liquid. Our server enquired as to why we were unable to finish these dishes and we assumed advised the kitchen accordingly. We were not approached by the Kitchen and were offered a "small discount" on our bill. Paid quickly and left. A very unpleasant experience, which on the face of it contradicts many of the reviews.

Amazing!!! Incredible service most lovely staff. My children loved it. We ordered the chicken fettuccine, scotch fillet (which was cooked perfectly) and my kids both had the chicken nuggets. I think everything is priced really well. I am extremely impressed and will be coming here again.

The Ship and Anchor Orewa - you have to try this place! FANTASTIC

Took the hubby and kids to The Ship and Anchor a few days ago. We are working our way through the restaurants in Orewa and on Sunday I had a feeling about this place so this one was up next and boy did it not disappoint! Great theme and decor, really cool sea prints on the tables. Bathroom fine and clean. Great service, especially Aman, really great young man! Now let's get to the food, oh my god, this was some of the best food we have ever eaten anywhere (in the world) unbelievably fresh and delicious. We hadn't eaten much all day and were starving so ordered a feast! The shrimp cocktail was amazing and so fresh (had to order this, I mean where do you ever see this on a menu anymore!). We also had buffalo wings and garlic bread (both yum). Mains we ordered the Salmon & Mushroom Risotto (the salmon was slightly overcooked to our liking but that is probably personal preference, the risotto was gorgeous), Schooner Burger (no complaints from our 13 yr old), Caribbean Pizza (this was me and omg this was incredible, a whole meal of seafood, cheese and chilli on a nice thin crust). The main of the night ordered by our 16 yr old was the Seafood Fettucine (kind of had order envy but the pizza was sooo good) this was unbelievable, so much fresh seafood and the flavours were to die for and also came with 2 slices of garlic bread. Hats off to the chef/s! Highly recommend. We will definetly be back to try more of this menu :)

The amazing team at Ship & Anchor treated us well and the food was fresh and fast. We tried the new fish burger, it was delicious. Panfried and served on a bun with a combination of sauces they make homemade on site and topped with lettuce, cheese and gerkins. I’ll be back soon 😊

don’t know how this place keeps getting great reviews

This place is ok for old fashioned food. I ordered a shrimp cocktail in a tall glass with thousand island dressing. There was One prawn on top of a few cocktail shrimps and the rest of the glass was filled up with shredded iceberg lettuce. This place is normally full of senior citizens and drinkers. It is definitely Not the best restaurant in Orewa !

Excellent food and hospitality for a great price

Excellent food at a good price, good vibe. We dined as a family. The wait staff were friendly and attentive, willing to cater for our various requests for my son. I got the saltimboca chicken, it was awesome with real sage leaves wrapped in pruscutio. Will definitely be back!

Good food but off chicken

Beautiful food we ordered with uber eats a few times for four people and enjoyed aal the food but yesterday we ordered again the some entrees and steak and our favourite chicken fettuccine we found the chicken was way off , really bad. Disappointed and I got sick badly. Please check your ingredients. We paid $32 only for the pasta and we paid $166 . A bit a shame we couldn’t enjoy and got sick. Ot sure i will have courage to order again. We will probably try again but not soon as I just had surgery and I have another next weekso I really cant afford to get so sick again. I hope this will help you to know when something is wrong and to fox iti was looking forward to it to have it at lunch today , but didn’t work

The good, the bad and the delicious. Second review.

Our forth visit and second review. I am greeted with a kind smile and was seated promptly even though almost every table was reserved. Water was served and with a little wave, I had ordered my appitiser. Beer fried chips with home made aoli. They arrived in a white bowl filled to the brim of wonderfully cooked, crunchy fries. With another wave, our drinks, mains and dessert were ordered. There was a little imbalance between the sauce and fries. The aoli only lasted for a third of the fries. The rest was brown bagged for home. Only a short wait and our mains arrived. The carribean pizza, with a great balance of veg, cheese, nuts and various seafood types. Absolutely delicious. Topped with sweet chilli sauce, slices beautifully. Just a little lopped sided with a few slices with only a piece of seafood at its tip. Lastly I had the lemon & lime cheesecake unfortunately the lemon and lime was missing but the cheesecake was delicious anyway. This shows how good their chief is. We were confused why my knife and fork from my main never got taken off our table when cleared for dessert. And we asked for the leftover from both main meals to be packed to take home and only one came back. So overall it was a satisfying three course meal with only a few tweaks to be made to make it closer to perfect.

Unpleasant Experience

This was our first night dinner on a NZ holiday. I ordered Seafood Chowder which was not very nice. The chef had left a large bay leaf in it which I ended up getting caught in my throat. I thought it was shell but ended up nearly choking on it before it eventually came up. No discount on my meal, owner didn’t seem to care. Felt sick for days from it. Reluctant to eat seafood chowder again. My husbands meal was also very ordinary

Friendly staff who make you feel at home

I won a $50 voucher for this restaurant through a competition on Facebook that Hibiscus Matters promoted. My husband and I used the voucher for our wedding anniversary and had a very enjoyable time. The Manager and the waitress staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the "Fish of the day" which was beautiful and almost melted in your mouth. It was a typical family pub type atmosphere and we had a lovely time. Thank you.

Would like to recommend the Ship and Anchor for great food and friendly staff. We were a group of 30 mature lunchtime diners. At the time of booking, they suggested we may wish to pre-order some of our meals to assist with service and even provided the menus in advance. This certainly proved a great idea. Our meals were served promptly and without delays. The food was good quality and value for money.
