Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing meal. My friends all had lamb shanks and I had the pork belly. Followed by Tiramisu. Yes we didn’t go whole hog pasta … but Italy is so much more. And boy did this restaurant deliver. Great reception… bar staff and then table service....The whole package delivered better than my last review of the much more expensive Logan Brown. Here the staff helped each other … rather than delineated service… staff friendly.. meals wholesome and proper Tiramisu sponge fingers… well worth enjoying.More

My partner and I came pretty close to the kitchen closing, however we were still given superb service and the food came out fast. I had the pork belly risotto and WOW it was delicious. 10/10 recommend

Fabulous Italian restaurant. It's right by the main road but everything here is. We had the arancini to start (there were 4 but ate 2 before taking photo) then the salmon pasta and mussels. Really yummy. Great service.

Teresa welcomed us and secured a table. Atmosphere was excellent, service was exceptional, and the food was so delicious. Thank you to Teresa and her team who provided a wonderful night out in Ohakune.

Food here is generally good and reasonably priced. One of the better restaurants in Ohakune. I had problems with what they called a Margherita pizza. It was not. It was a sort of plain tomato cheese pizza, no basil, no pomodoro tomatoes (only pizza sauce)...and utterly NO BASIL. Had only a very few crumbs of parsley on top. The veg pizza is much better. Get that instead. I am not dissing this place, you can get a really good meal there, just avoid that one item for now until they can figure out how to get it right.More

Was in the area for a holiday and decided to try out this place for dinner, upon entering it looked rather busy but they do accept takeaway should you want food from here but cant get a table when walking in. Other than that first...thought's were very welcoming and once seated, staff were knowledgeable about the essentials such as the fish of the day and if there are any out of stock items two products were ordered from the dinner menu and one from the desert which felt to be priced relatively well. The pace at which the food arrives is rather quick would say around 5-10 mins.More

One of our “must do” places when visiting Ohakune. Good food, good service, steak was perfectly cooked, and tender to the last bite. Almost melted in ones mouth. Steaks always a good test of a restaurant, Osteria Ohakune again passed with flying colours, among the...better steaks we have eaten. All other dishes were excellent too, kids meals as usual very generous portions. Need an Osteria at home.More

We visited here in 2021 and the quality was a bit patchy between visits - but on our recent visit the food quality and menu was top notch, and the level of service well on the way to also being 5/5 - would definitely recommend

A charming Italian restaurant offering traditional and modern dishes. The food was excellent. We were served professionally by a high school student who was knowledgeable about the menu. I am not vegetarian, but enjoyed the roast vegetable and feta pizza. The duck liver pate was...fabulous.More

Great service & amazing food! Very friendly staff & lovely atmosphere. We started with the homemade pate, followed by the Chicken breast with prosciutto, and the fish of the day which was snapper. Finished with some cheesecake and a tiramasu. All accompanied by a very...nice Montepulciano wine. Great place to celebrate our Anniversary. Highly recommend.More

It's popularity suggests it is the best restaurant in town. I booked an early dinner table and when I arrived was promptly and courteously showed to my table, and offered a choice should it not suit. I reviewed the menu, and the drinks menu, and...waited, and waited ... eventually catching a staff-member's eye to order a drink. I chose the Peroni 'blue ribbon' beer which was just delightful after a hard day of MTB riding. A large group arrived soon after so I felt a need to order soon or languish. Again the staff moving to-and-fro were not looking around, and I had to make a small 'display' to get someone's attention. I chose the pork belly. Like the beer, once ordered, the main meal arrived relatively promptly. It was tasty and quite good. The beans were somewhat overcooked, the carrots were fine, the mash okay, and the pickled cabbage / slaw quite tasty and providing a great little bit of zing alongside the thick pork belly segments. My plate was almost spotless by the time I used the last of my mash to wipe off the remaining gravy, slaw, and other bits and pieces. I chose the affogato as dessert. Frangeliko is Frangeliko, and was served in a little shot glass. The espresso was quite nice and served in a little demi-tasse. The vanilla ice cream was good quality but there was barely half a 'scoop'. If I had poured the coffee and liqueur over it it'd have disappeared completely. As it was I used around a third of each of the liquids, and it was quite tasty. I ended up drinking the left-over liqueuer :-) Overall: The peroni blue ribbon beer was superb; my main course was quite good; my dessert a big disappointment; and the quality of service quite underwhelming. The staff members themselves were quite nice, courteous, and knowledgeable ... it just required quite an effort to get them. A little inhouse training would not go astray, to be scanning the room as you move through it, and acknowledging people when they seek your attention (just needs a nod and a finger or two raised to suggest you will back in two minutes) ... not eyes down avoiding all except what you see as the single task in front of you that very minute.More
