Best food and value on the Island hands down!

I will just keep this short and sweet but you need to eat here every chance you can get whether it is brunch, lunch or late lunch, The Mooring is by far the freshest, largest meals and best value on the Island! The food is absolutely amazing, th3 customer service is second to none and great location and outlook. Even if in a rush or just need a quick bite they have you covered. Thank you The Mooring Fish Cafe and will continue to come back multiple trips as always :)

Fabulous Fresh Fish

The Mooring can always be relied on for large, fresh fish meals. It's such a lovely spot to eat with a stunning view of the Avana Harbour. You'll definitely want to pay a visit for lunch when you visit Raro.

The best spicy tuna tacos yum. Can’t wait until the cafe is open again. Jill and her team are taking really good care of their guest and everything is so fresh and taste delicious.

Yummy FOB but chip portion disappointing

Stopped her for lunch and order the FOB which was fresh, tasty and a good size - all of which I expect for a $15.00 sandwich. I also ordered the hot chips at $5.00 and was really disappointed in the portion size - was about half the portion I expected. Overall, enjoyed the food and might go back.

Having dined in on previous occasions we had 'take out' on this visit to The Rock. This is a MUST DO experience on Raro either dine in or take out. The fish sandwich is large, very tasty and great value for money. The dine in experience has lots of character and if you get the chance, say hi to the owner. She is a person of great presence and will make you feel very special. Gee, can't wait to go back!

This is the best Fish Sarny.

This place is only open till 3:30 in the afternoon but believe me when l say their Fish sandwich is the best on the island. All their fish dishes use Mahi Mahi not the cheaper/tougher Marlin. Had the sandwich and the fish and chips, not a fan of their chips, they are those thin type. The nachos looked good and all meals under $15. Recomended. Staff were friendly and helpfull.

Fab for lunch

Awesome food 😁 only open for lunch and was super fast service. Note less places on island open on Sundays for lunch so Mooring Fish will be busy with about a 25 min wait, unlike their normal 5 mins!!! Note also they don’t sell alcohol but you can byo beer/wine. Kids can bring togs and jump off jetty. We ate there 4 times

Staff so friendly it was like a family, and lovely, relaxed tmosphere by the beach. Now, I'm not much of a seafood fan but when I saw a FOB being brought to another table, I had to try! The most delicious fish sandwich you could dream of.....such fresh fish and bread, and perfect lime sauce to top it off. We returned for more visits a few times! Cost was $15nzd per sandwich. You absolutely must eat here!!

Change of venue, not of quality

The Moorings has moved from Avana to the heart of Muri. Shame because the ambience of the old location was great. However life moves on and Jill, the founder and owner told us that the new location is only temporary until a new place is found. In the meantime, the cafe still serves the best fish sandwiches on Rarotonga, especially the Tijuana. Because the tourist trade is still somewhat subdued, the opening days are limited, otherwise we would have visited more often.

Fantastic fish!

An amazing little find. They had freshly caught Mahimahi and Tuna when we popped in. The service was some of the friendliest we received on the island. The fish was so fresh. We had the tacos and Mahimahi sandwich. Our food arrived promptly and the cajun spice on the tacos was divine not to mention the fruit salsa- a perfect balance. highly recommend the tacos. My partner had the fish sandwich and he loved it. We went back again on Sunday before we left and they had live music. It was clearly a popular place to be for lunch as there were throngs of people. Great atmosphere. They allow BYO wine and beer too. Cash only so make sure you have some before you arrive. Can't recommend enough.

As good as ever!

Having eaten at The Mooring Fish cafe in 2018 and really enjoyed the FOB, we went looking for a terrific fish meal again. We drove to where they should have been a couple of times and nothing - no tables, people or signs. We ended up looking up the Mooring Fish Cafe on the internet and discovered they had moved to opposite the Muri night markets. So we drove to the new site, walked in and were impressed with the greetings from staff. Not quite the 'ambience' of the last establishment, but amazingly quick with meals, and the food is still excellent - nothing has changed there. Prices are still reasonable and the service with a (free) smile does take some beating.

This is easily one of the best places to dine while in Rarotonga. Its casual, relaxed, food truck vibe belies the incredible food that’s produced. Nothing can beat eating a fresh fish sandwich or taco while watching the catch come in at Avana wharf. The team are super friendly and are happy to give you food and allow you to pay later if you forget this is a cash only venue. You haven’t been to Rarotonga if you miss the tuna or mahi-mahi from Mooring Fish Café. They also do gluten free (and vegetarian or vegan) options

Still Making Great Food

Once again we had to go back to the Mooring.And once again the food was wonderful. The only drawback was the Island fisherman were having a terrible season (not there fault) so far and fresh fish was hard to come by, so it was first in first served! Although all there other food is very nice it is the famous FOB (Fish on Bread) that most people go there for. Can get very busy at times and because of the lack of fish some days they remain closed, so check before you head around to that side of the island. Staff are fantastic and the prices OK, but as already said it can get very busy so get there before the busy times!

Freshest fish

This is a great place for the freshest fish and chips you could get. We went on Sunday which seems a popular day and there was live music and a great atmosphere. The batter on the fish was so light and crispy and service was super quick despite being very busy. Was a lovely end to our raro trip

Great feed of fresh fish

I stopped in for lunch 1 day last week whilst on holiday, and on an online recommendation I ordered the crumbed fish (mahimahi) burger & fries. It was great. Plenty of fish in it, nice salad & tasty sauces. Price was good too.
