We went there for dinner last night to celebrate my husband's birthday. The decor is beautiful, authentic and with lovely fresh floral centrepiece. We were welcomed at seated at our table and whilst waiting for our order, we were provided with crispy, spicy crackers to go with our drinks. We had ordered Tom Yam Gung - the smell and flavour took me straight back to numerous visits to Thailand. We also ordered Som Tam, Thai Fish cakes Pad Thai, and a spicy grilled fish. The food was outstanding- only problem, the portions were generous. The service was attentive, without being in your face. Well done.

We were staying at the Oberoi, and decided to visit their Thai restaurant for a change from Indian food. The restaurant itself reminded us of a traditional, formal Thai place with lots of dark wood paneling.
There were fewer vegetarian dishes than we had hoped, but we found several that appealed to us. We had one of our favourites, som tam, plus a vegetable green curry, an aubergine dish, and jasmine rice. Portions were quite generous, so more than enough. Overall, the food was very good, although the papaya salad wasn't that authentic, both in ingredients and presentation. Despite us ordering the food Thai spicy, we had to ask for extra chilli. The dessert selection was very limited, none of my Thai favourites was there, so we shared a citrus cheesecake which was nice. My partner stuck with water, my vodka cocktail was good.
Service was pleasant, as expected in the Oberoi, at times a bit over solicitous, almost intrusive in their desire to please. On the other hand, the bill was brought before we had asked for it, and just plonked on the table, which was quite annoying. Prices were quite high, but as expected in a high end restaurant.

I went back to Oberoi Grand after a gap of 30 years and found the hotel some how stuck in time, at least that was the impression we got after dinning at Baan Thai.
Overall ambiance was nice but noisy kids from another table who were running around the restaurant spoiled the atmosphere.
Menu was confusing to say the least. Grilled chicken under main course arrived at our table looking like stir-fried side dish. Dessert choices in a so called specialized Thai restaurant included cream brulee and cheesecake. In fact some of us ordered the "Kaffir lime brulee" hoping to taste something different but received a regular cream brulee with kaffir lime infused crushed ice in a separate small glass. The so called signature dessert was not even mentioned in the menu.
And then there was the service or the lack of it. The servers appeared to be not very well trained and had limited knowledge about the food. For example they described the ice cream cake as ice cream between two slices of bread. Our server disappeared during the course of our meal and we found it difficult to get our table cleared or order dessert. The servers even lacked minimum skills in placing the foods on the table. Not to forget they did not replace our knives and forks after we finished our starters.
But the worst experience was when we settled the bill. The server charged us in foreign currency without asking and at a very imaginative rate. Unfortunately I only noticed this after leaving the hotel and did not feel like going back to lodge a complaint.
At the end I have to mention that food taste were good but I don't think it will inspire me enough to go back in next 30 years.

I had a craving for Thai food (which seems to be most of the time) and wanted to have a break from heavy Indian food. So we headed to Baan Thai in the Oberoi. It's a beautifully made restaurant - very traditionally Thai - with wonderful aromas even before you enter it.
The menu is a little small I felt and could have done with a bit more variety, especially in terms of the salads and desserts, especially given absence of beef dishes, as is the norm in India.
The portions were fairly decent but was it authentic? I wasn't expecting it to be 100% so - but the 80% authenticity (in my mind) was good enough. The most authentic was probably the salad and the least was the paad thai. The difference between this red ruby (dessert) and ones in Thailand was the consistency of the coconut cream.
Service: the waitresses were very good and very charming but the number of times they kept asking how was the food became irritating. The captain was equally courteous as you would expect in an Oberoi but had clearly failed to deal with a particularly noisy table full of a few obnoxious individuals who were annoying the hell out of the rest of the restaurant.
Overall I'd give this 3.5 stars

If you want to experience Thailand in Kolkata, give it a try. Chef's soecial Fish in Yellow Curry and Jasmine Rice was delicious. Avoid alcohol as it's costly. Forgot the name of the dessert, it was basically a white liquid flavored with coconut and it was quite unique and delicious.

Excellent service, Sujata took extra care of us. When I found something too spicy I had chocolates and a fresh lime in front of before I could ask for water. They made it extra special by bringing us a little cake to celebrate Mother’s Day. The food was good and always a pleasure to return to Baan Thai

One of the best restaurants service I’ve ever had. The hostess and waiters were extremely attentive. I can’t usually eat too much and I wanted a salad along with my main course. Shang brought me a small salad complimentary. She also brought some stir fried vegetables. She as very helpful in suggesting certain dishes. Overall great experience!

Delectable, mouth watering Thai delicacy. The strong taste of coconut on my first bite of Thai red curry is unforgettable. Must try if you are in Kolkata!! PS: I ordered Prawns in Thai red curry sauce and rice to go along with it

Best Thai restaurant in town.
Loved the food, ambience and the service.
Only one suggestion please ask the chef to work on the size of the spring roll .Felt very bad looking at those tiny rolls.
Khilish, Sung and Tenzing took very good care of us.
Will visit again.

After being in a house arrest for the better part of almost 2 years because of a potent combination of the pandemic, WFH and parenthood, the wife and I decided to satiate our almost uncontrollable yearning for something Thai. We chose the time tested Baan Thai to indulge our cravings. Its been a while since our last visit and we went there hoping that things were as good as our last time. We're happy to say we weren't disappointed. It deserves to be considered as one of the best restaurants in town, which it is. The Thai green curry, barcued pork and the pad Thai noodles were 'foodgasm' inducing. We will visit again soon and we recommend others do the same.

A true Kolkata gem! Authentically Thai both in its ambience, as well as in its vast repertoire of scrumptious dishes. We were treated with the kindness and care you’d only expect from a family member by Khitij and Anita! Kudos for all the thoughtful gestures and delicate touches. Nothing like great food elevated by superlative service! We will be back.

I visited baan thai restaurant. I must say one of the best and memorable experience I had in terms of food and service. Som tam salad was well presented, well balanced and delicious. Their coconut base dessert was yummmm.... The best aspect about the place though is excellent service.Specially mentioned about baan thai restaurant supervisor Tushar and his team member Nancy was exceptional. They were so professional, well knowledgeable about menu and provided best hospitality. They really takes an effort to engage with each guest and ensuring best of best service which really makes a lot of difference.Kudos to Tushar and Nancy for making my dinning experience memorable. Keep up the good work 👏 👏👏👏
Surely will visit again this place and highly recommend who wants to experience best luxury culinary and Impeccable services.

Went in without a booking at 7:45pm and they found us a table. For starters we tried satay, rolls and prawn salad. Delicious. For mains we tried various chicken and prawn dishes - quite spicy but lovely. Service was great throughout. Fully recommend

It was a great experience dining in Oberoi Grand which just celebrated 140th anniversary. This Thai restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the staff is experienced and efficient.
The food is uniformly excellent, and I particularly liked the duck curry and Pad Rhail. High recommended both for food and ambiance.
