Chris our server, good food and a nice gesture by management save this rating ! Hostesses need some training.
After postponing our trip to Ocean City to celebrate our 44th Anniversary, we decided to chose a local business in Ashburn, Cooper’s Hawk where we have...dined before (pre-pandemic). Located in the Belmont Chase Shopping Center where there is a Whole Foods.
In keeping with CDC recommendations, I read that it’s one of the few but growing restaurants that allows you to book outside tables and after booking reached out to the restaurant requesting a shaded table if possible, with a fan (we had scouted the restaurant)/
Morgan Wims reached back out and indicated she would do what she could to help our request.
We arrived promptly for our 6:30 pm reservation and even though you dine outside, you have to come inside . It is cool inside and its where the hostess table is so e went inside and shortly after were led to our table (BTW for customers who follow CDC guidelines to eat outside, it would be nice to have a station on the patio ). Here is where we were disappointed as the table, we were seated at was the hottest one w/o an umbrella, fan and had multiple flies on the table. We asked to be seated elsewhere and were told no.
We then saw a table in the corner with shade and I asked a server if we could sit there and he said check with the front…who said sure (memo to management. When this situation occurs, let customers know another table will be ready in xxx minutes and we will gladly wait). WE then waited while Chris our server cleaned and we now had a shaded table. BTW we say multiple couples walk away from the table.
Also, to others seating before 7:40 pm when the sun goes down, the servers have a device to adjust the tables under an umbrella. You have to ask.
Now calmer, we ordered after Chris took a picture, mex shrimp and sausage flatbread. Both were excellent especially the shrimp which had lots of avocado.
For main course my wife had the Maui shrimp and I had the grouper. My grouper was delicious with the special mashed potatoes and my wife enjoyed the shrimp, although she didn’t know they were fried. So I ate some of her shrimp and she enjoyed my grouper.
We had 2 glass of Moscato and at the end of the meal Chris presented us with 2 glasses of Champagne complements of Cooper’s Hawk, which was a nice touch.
Chris was a great server and those helping him with food were awesome.
So what could have been a very unpleasant evening turned out to be very nice because we took the initiative to stake out a table (which the hostess could have done in the first place.
Good mask guidelines were followed (we generally clean our cutlery and ask for paper napkins). If you have to use the restroom, remember to wear masks
When you exit the restaurant, you can do directly down the stairs outside so do not have to exit through the front.More
