Excellent Food! (and beer too!)

My friends were raving about the Reuben egg rolls so we stopped in to try them (and a few plates of fish and chips) out. They might be the most perfect food to ever exist. You must try them. The fish and chips and the drinks were also all solid. Nice atmosphere. Convenient to order at the bar and the food came out quickly on a Friday night!

Skimpy on the shrimp

My husband and I stopped here for dinner while vacationing in the area. I got the shrimp kale salad and my husband got the steak wrap. Everything was tasty, but I ordered a whole salad and it came with what I thought were 8 shrimp. They turned out to be cut in half, equaling 4 whole shrimp. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. We also enjoyed a flight of 5 beers. Highly recommend the place, I gave it 4 stars for the skimpy shrimp!

Great find!

Ohio University game day—Halloween weekend. Found this place uptown. Upon opening, they became very busy. However, we had excellent service from Elise. The portobello mushroom sandwich was phenomenal! Side salad was very nice! Will be back the next time we are in town!

Poor Service

Went there and put our name in for a table they said it would be a 30-45 min wait. We thought no problem we will sit at the bar for a few drinks. Over an hour later with a lot of empty tables we were told it will be a little longer. We ended up ordering our food and ate at the bar. The bearded bartender was super rude! Probably will NOT be back!!

We were staying for the weekend in Athens, we love beers so we wanted to check out this place. It is right on the OU campus, so no parking lot and good luck finding a spot on the street if its busy, we got lucky it was a sunday so meter parking was free and we found a space a few blocks away. The inside was a bit dingy and dirty looking, not what I was expecting. The menu had a good variety, we tried a beer flight and really only liked one of the beers, the mixed media was delicious, everything else was watered down. I had the Reuben Sandwich which was so disappointing, the rye bread was good, but other than that it was bland, dry and the meat was tough. The fries were also super salty. The hubs had the ribeye sandwich, he said it was tasty but there wasn't much meat on the sandwich it was a little thin. Overall I wouldn't come back if we are in the area. Much better options around.

Popular, but just OK

While we're not interested in craft beers, we tried Jackie O's because so many folks had recommended it. We found the food good but quite average. Service, however, was extremely slow. Don't plan another visit!

Tasty suds

Stopped by for a beer. I had a Ricky and my husband had a Cool Beans. Both beers were yummy. Ricky was a clean light drink. Cool Beans had a beautiful coffee smell and finished smooth. Because of Covid the kitchen was closed and the inside was only open to access the bathroom. We lucked out with sunny weather and a temperature of 73...strange for November but awesome for our visit. Can’t wait to go back once Covid is history.

Good beer, meh food

Good beer, very average food. Don’t get a salad- it was wilted and brown. The chips that came with the burger were too soggy/stale to eat. But the beer was worth it!

Good food, very busy!

We had a great dinner at Jackie O's! Expect a wait, especially on a weekend (we went just before 5PM and had about a 30 minute wait). Great food, great service. Highly recommend!

Great food, beer and atmosphere

The food and atmosphere are great! They have a great beer selection. I enjoyed the hazy IPA. The fish tacos were delicious. I highly recommend this place.

Still special; able to eat OUTSIDE; fine food and service

Jackie O's has been a rock solid option in Athens for over three decades. And now with COVID, their upstairs OUTSIDE eating area is certainly a great compliment to the fine food and service. Waiters and staff are very careful with mask and protecting their clients. Food selection is quite good; not overboard in complexity but certainly well done. Still a great selection of beers and also hard alcohol to drink. And you can also eat inside now with the air con turned up high, lots of air changes per hour and plastic dividers now hung between tables for safely Still a great place to grab a meal or drink.

Pizza and Beer, Yes!

They make a wide variety of beers, which were excellent. At least, what I sampled was excellent. The pizza was terrific, with lots of garlic. The Greek salad is legit and can fill you up. The only knock was that the burger was small. It was tasty, but small. Still worthy of five stars!
