The food wasn't bad but it was quite an expensive meal and there wasn't any dish that stood out for me. It also felt quite repetitive. Having similar priced meals (and even cheaper meals) elsewhere in Kyoto and the rest of Japan makes it difficult...More

This is a delightful restaurant (difficult to find as with most places), but once found, it is a real treat. Off the street you go down a short garden path and it feels like you are arriving at someone's home. Only 9-10 seats surrounding the...More

This was a last minute reservation just as we reached Kyoto after 1pm. The hotel concierge did a great job in securing us a table, although it was not at the table counter which would have provided a more entertaining dining experience. Nevertheless, we came...More

Perfect tempura, well balanced meal and very good attentive service.Discreet entrance down a garden footpath to a modern concrete 3 story building. Small space like so many in Japan, but beautifully detailed down to the Lalique bird on the windowsill.

One of my favourite restaurants in Kyoto. Very decent traditional tempura with high quality seasonal food. Sea urchin is my favourite but bean curd tempura is impressive.

This place was recommended by one of the women at the front desk at Hotel Kanra. It's a bit hard to find and we took a taxi. You walk down a little entrance way and its up one floor. I was so surprised on entering...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
