We were here in late January and now having our second dinner here in a week. The food is home cooked, reasonably priced and delicious. I asked and found they are open at breakfast and lunch, too. If you don't speak Spanish, type questions on your phone translator because they speak no English (and probably no other languages other than Spanish). If you are in a hurry, this isn't your place. It is home-cooked food here. We were happy with Balboa beer. I have no idea on beverage choices.

We ate lunch at The Clarita Restaurant on Nov. 30 and sat under a fan as the temperature was in the low 30’s. It had rained a little at night. Workmen filled the place and the lunch was traditional and homemade. For $16USD for two, we had chicken in sauce, rice, lentils in a mug, orange drinks, macaroni-ham salad. Big bowls of Soup were also available. The TV was on and there is no smoking. The red chairs have soft cushions and the tables blue tablecloths. I recommend The Clarita for a hearty meal.

yep, I asked for menù, but they don't have it, and you know what? who cares! that evening was avaiable just chicken with rice or chicken with potatoes. anyway, Clarita cook very good quality chicken meat, in her secret sauce. Her husband serve on tables and you really feel like at home. Food is great. Price is really low if you compare to other restaurants, but you cannot really compare, cause Clarita really put a lot of love in all her dishes. TOP LEVEL!!!

As of April 2022, it does not exist anymore. Apparently they closed after Covid. The whole island practically is deserted, I only found one open restaurante calles Perla Real

Several recommended this place for lunch so We have it a try. We sat down waiting for a menu, but nope. The kind old man said meat, rice and salad. And that was that. He brought our meal and it was terrific.

Santos is a no frills guy, cooking and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner for locals and interested visitors. There is not a lot of variety, but every dish tastes nice. He does the best Patacones of the island and is known for the fried chicken. We came several times and felt very well treated. Thanks a lot!

This restaurant is the authentic experience. We ate lunch here twice. Don't expect any frills. It is a no fuss restaurant with delicious local food. The staff does not speak any english but we used hand signals and google translate. No issues there. The beer was ice cold and both days the food was absolutely finger licking. The portions are large and prices are reasonable. Tourists are charged more then locals but it still was one of the more reasonable meals we ate. Its definitely worth every dollar. The menu is limited and changes daily so don't expect a lot of selection but what you will get will be amazing. We had fried chicken, rice and beans and beef stew. I'm still dreaming about it.

Dont expect too much but the food was decent. No frills here. I would rather have eaten here (among the bugs) than elsewhere on this overrated island

I don't speak a word of Spanish and the staff doesn't speak English, but we never had trouble communicating. The fried chicken is wonderful as well as the beef stew dish. I spent a month on the island and this was my favorite restaurant.

We spent 4 days March 5-9 and had 3 fabulous meals at Restaurante Clarita. The language barrier was manageable by looking around to what others were eating and asking for the same. It's not a menu type restaurant. What is being cooked for the day is what you will receive. We were excited Pollo Frito (fried chicken) was being served for 2 of our meals along with delicious sides. The 3rd meal was very tender beef/pork stew over rice. We enjoyed their hot-sauce on everything. The clincher for us was the Ice-Cold Beer. Smiles were abound and as long as you can get there early before the kitchen closes (between 11:30 - 1:00 for lunch), you should have no problem getting served. If a server does not come around go to the counter and ask if they are still serving. Although I'm not aware we missed out on other food options; having additional Spanish under our belt would have been helpful. Rosetta Stone here I come!!

We had both our dinners at Clarita's while on the island. The gentleman serving doesn't speak English but understood what we wanted. The whole fish was fabulous as was the chicken. The small salad it was served with was awesome, the garlic dressing .......wow! From the outside looking in you may not be sure about the food, however once inside, it is local, delicious and very reasonable!!!! Loved it 😚

My friend and I walked up to this place and no one was really there. We asked for a table for two. The man there didn't understand it seemed but was able to say that he had carne, arroz and frijol which I understood. The plate came with an amazing thin steak, potatoes, rice, onions, peppers and a few pieces of lettuce and a slice of tomato. The beans were in a separate little container. To say the food was amazing would be an understatement. When we went to pay the bill it was $10 USD for both of us. I don't think the place was even open when we got there but they accommodated us. You could eat like a king on $15 USD per day. I will definitely be back before I leave Contadora.

Had lunch on our second day here. The place isn't fancy but none of the places are on the island. Great local place to grab a delicious local plate. Worth the try!

We had lunch here. I don't think there was a choice but as we don't speak Spanish and they dnt speak English we went with what the locals were eating. It turned out to be meatballs, rice, lentils and a bit of salad and it was lovely. There were 4 of us. We had 2 beers and 2 soft drinks. The bill was $28.
