On our 1st night in Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur, the group wanted to eat fresh seafood. So, I texted my Sabahan friend for recommendations. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to join as she was in Kuala Lumpur. What a twist of fate! However, she told us to head over to Sembulan Lobster Restaurant & so we did.
My partner had made reservations prior to our visit. Fortunately, it was a short drive from our Hotel. Although it was drizzling, we arrived at 7:30 pm, in time for our reservation. We chose to sit outdoors as we wanted the night breeze.
Two staff came to our table to take our orders. We were told that one of them was the chef. He was the one who gave us recommendations when we were indecisive. In total, we ordered 5 dishes. They were buttered prawns, salted egg squid, baby kailan in oyster sauce, seafood fried rice & steamed Garoupa fish in ginger & soya sauce which happened to be the best dish for the night. The chef also accommodated to my request for additional egg floss on our buttered prawns.
We had trouble finishing our dishes as the portions were big & generous while the price of each dish was reasonable. Before leaving the restaurant, everyone agreed to come back again before we leave the city as the food was just so delicious!

Excellent culinary. Waiting time from ordering to arrival of dishes was bearable although restaurant was almost full during 8 plus in the evening. Food was tasty and presentation good especially the wet buttered prawns if I remember the name correctly. Spent about RM200 plus for 3 dishes. Price is not exactly cheap but then again what is cheap in KK?

One of the best seafood I had in a long time.
Nothing pretentious. Just fresh seafood cooked to perfection.
My favourite was the salted egg soft shell crab. This is to die for.
Although not exactly seafood, their oxtail stew was yummy. The fall of the bone chunks of meat was a perfect combination to the slightly sweet, slightly salty and slightly spicy sauce.
The steamed fish was, what can I say…. It is full of bones but hey it is fish. Overcome the part about the bone, it was a 5 star eating experience.

Food was delicious and portions were generous. Seafood was extremely fresh. Price was reasonable and we would definitely come again. It was pretty popular and crowded so best to reserve a table in advance and be prepared to wait for orders.

This is my second time eating at this restaurant. The food is just as I remember it to be.
For me, the star was the Salted egg soft shell crab, Tamarind oxtail stew and the tiger prawns steamed with fresh garlic.
The crab was a bit disappointing not from the taste perspective but size. They were a bit on the small side. (It was all they had). But, on the positive slide, we had a few females which was full of delicious roe.
Although their TripAdvisor listing says that they are closed, a search on Google showed that they are very much in business.
Suggest that you call ahead to make a booking. We were disappointed the night before when we turned up without a booking as they were no tables available.

a bit out from town but still easily accessible if u got your own transport. not a big restaurant but serves decent seafood at very reasonable prices. there are also live crabs and cockles available

Brought a family (Kuching origin) to have dinner (7 adults & 3 children). Place is so-so. No welcome greetings. This restaurant seems to have more tourists in it. The man who took our orders did not do any recommendations and was so cold. Total for 9 dishes (crabs,prawns (steamed & butter),fish,chicken,vege,eggs,lala) of various cooking types was MYR445.70 incl. SST. No one came to change our plates. We had to ask for extra plates for the shells, etc. There was no itemised receipt when making payment. As a person who loves seafood I wouldn’t say this was a good eat at all. We’ve been to a much better restaurant compared to this. For the taste it’s only 2 stars, for services we rated 3 stars and ambience 2 stars too.

Good menu and reasonably-priced.
The lobster was fresh and well-cooked.
The roast chicken was moist and tasty.
No Diet Coke and the ambience is rather basic but the price reflects that.
Would definitely go again.

Fresh and delicious seafood offered at this restaurant. Prices are very reasonable.
Only note is that it gets very busy during dinner time, so waiting time for food to arrive can take up to 45 minutes.
So arrive early and enjoy the delicious seafood offered.
