We are local Sabahans who like to try new restaurants.
Two months ago we had a totally unplanned evening where we headed out to @laveranda.kk to try out this brand-new Italian restaurant. The moment I stepped in, I loved it because of the dim lightings & relaxing ambience! My husband and I had Octopus Salad & Grilled Seafood - both are prepared so well and I highly recommend them to those who want to eat light. Matched with bubbly Prosecco … aaah we felt like we were somewhere in the Mediterranean seas … 🌊🐠

And my daughter’s Orrechiete Bolognaise is so flavourful and delicious that we both said we wanna come back very soon! Thank you to the friendly Italian Manager who taught me how to pronounce Orrechiete although I’ve forgotten it now as I’m writing this 😂

Overall, we really like this restaurant a lot and we give it a big thumbs up because it’s cosy, friendly, completely unpretentious and on top of it all, prices are so reasonable. Can’t wait to to return to try their other dishes! ❤️ Well done La Veranda!

Beautiful Spacious Place and Delicious Authentic Italian Food. The Atmosphere is Very nice. Good price, good services and a good selection of menu and be sure to check out the menu of the day. Special Price RM14.90 for Pastas from Mondays to Fridays at 12pm to 2:30pm.
I love the Fresh Oysters , The Truffle Pizza Bianca, Pesto and White Fish Farfalle and a glass of Merlot to pair with the exquisite Seaford taste. It is amazing. Highly recommended to Couples , Singles, Families , Friends and Work Colleagues. A definitely a gem at Sutera Avenue, Kota Kinabalu.

Their Pizza and seafood platter is my favorite .
-La veranda pizza must try . With 125g fresh mozzarella on the top
- fried seafood platter and grilled seafood platter both are nice. But I am big fan of fried things

Real authentic Italian food
We visited Sabah on our vacation. We are so glad we have found a piece of Italy in Kota Kinabalu.
The food is authentic and the flavor is like back home.
Really glad that we stop by there and have it a try. Usually Italian restaurants overseas tend to be more localized. I have to say this is not the case.
Not easy to find but I would say it’s an hidden gem.

Another visit to this restaurant because its one of my favs, every visit i had i always order something different than what i had before. The food is always amazing but this time i had ordered their lasagna, and it came out burnt on the top, like really hard to bite kinda burnt, i was dissapointed and my boyfriend had the fish and chips, i was suprised it was served with only one (small)fish fillet and a load of crisscut chips. Other than that, the service is great.

Amazing to find such authentic Italian food so far away from Europe! The setting is nice and relaxed and the staff are friendly, but it’s the food that is the real stand out! We love pizza and these are definitely the best we’ve had in SE Asia (calzone was my favorite but the kids loved the one with curly fries on!) but the stand out dish was the grilled seafood. YUM! We managed to talk to the female head chef (quite groundbreaking for Asia!), who is from the south of Italy and she seemed so passionate about her food it was infectious! Can’t wait to go back and try more things off the menu😁

It was a complete disappointment for our New Year Eve diner during holidays.
We had been reading all the good reviews about it and decided to make the reservation and beat the traffic to go in. However, it was not a pleasant experience, at all.
First of all, it is obvious that they do not have the capacity to take all the reserved guests, while at the same time took in all walk-in guests. I waited for an hour to have my first dish. And guess what, it was the main. My starter and soup were not served yet.
Secondly, I will agree it is a 100% authentic Italian restaurant. But, there are different grades in Italian culinary. I have to say the quality of food is below average here. I believe most of the locals are not very experienced with Italian cuisines and that's how they are recognised as a top-rated Italian restaurant in KK.
Ravioli with smoked salmon - We know there shall not be water in mixing flour to make pasta. Since when the eggs became unaffordable? The stuffing is actually alright. But the skin required slightly longer cooking. It was hard to chew.
Tomato soup with clam - I was told they ran out of scallops but they could use clam. No problem with me. But, how could the dried rubbery smelly clam be served? They were so dried that the meat was stuck to the shell. Please refer to the image to judge by your own eyes. I knew I would probably need a toilet session after and I dared to risk it with my strong asian stomach. But I was still right about it. Thank god for giving us proper toilet.
Deep fried softball crabs - It was a total crap.(I did not expect one day I would have used this word on a public comment but I really think they deserves it.) The description states ' 2 WHOLE CRABS'. We were shocked when the dish was served. There were 2 tiny pieces of crabs - probably a half of the small crab, a whole bunch of lettuces and some potato chips. What a disgraceful presentation for Italian culinary. We asked the dish to be sent back to the kitchen straight away and had it cancelled. And I was told by the staff it was not how it should be looking like usually. The dish shall have an update of the name as 'Soft Shell Crap'.
There are a lot of improvements required to be put in place. Before the greediness for money being stuck in the mentality, basic respect to your guests is to make sure the quality food is served. People here deserves better Western cuisines!
The staffs on the ground serving were very friendly. Thank them for that.

From the welcome to menu recommendation. From the appetiser to the main course, we enjoyed thoroughly. Great taste and reasonably priced. We will surely be back to try out more of the other dishes.

The most authentic Italian Restaurant in Kota Kinabalu.
The chef is from Puglia (South Italy) and they make home - hand made pasta tipical from that region, orecchiette. Pizza from Italy, and a selection of main courses from the grill.
MUST TRY!
We ordered:
- Pizza Bianca
Their signature pizza with Fries on the top
- Lobster ravioli
Good value for money and delicious taste
- Beef Tagliata
Absolutely 100% tender. It was so melting
- Mix Grill Seafood
In Sabah seafood is a must, not disappointed at all
- Orecchiette Pasta
Unique flavour. It should in each one order if you wish to try authentic Italian food
- Caprese Salad
- Tiramisu
