weak points - ther are reasonable choices of fresh fish, crab, clams but limited choices of vegetables to select. It seems to be affected by Covid-19 and many Chinese tour groups cancelled their trips. We asked for the sabah local veg but not available. good points - the price for our order is reasonable. We ordered 300 grams of fresh steam prawn, a veg dish, 300 grams of fresh steam squids. The seafood dishes tasted fresh. There are tables for couple which i thought was very good indeed. In the same location, there are 3 different seafood restaurants and there are various restaurant staff at the entrance to this place trying to grab your attention, so you just have to focus on which restaurant you want to go.

Was planning on trying a few seafood places on our KK trip but since we liked it so much we stuck with Suang Tain and went back a second time and wasn’t disappointed Can be a little daunting picking your dinner from the live tanks but it’s all part of the fun. First time was dinner and we weren’t prepared but the lady who served us was accommodating and helped us . You choose your seafood and cooking style then and additional things like rice and veggies, so I would suggest taking a look at the menu online before you go and work out what you want. All top quality and fresh (it’s alive why wouldn’t it be) We had whole steamed fish, mud crabs and prawns, veggies and steamed rice plus a beer and water and for 4 people was under $100 AUD Can’t beat that.

We order 3 dishes for 2 persons and decide on barbecue sting-ray with sambal (chili paste); stir-fried kailan and salted egg bitter gourd. The food we ordered was average. But the service was excellent and the worker very friendly. Since it was during movement control period due to Covid-19 pandemic, there restaurant was relatively quiet.

Brilliant seafood place. Very busy restaurant, basic interiors but busy, with some high quality and tasty food. You choose your catch live from the fish tanks. Then you choose how would you like your food prepared. We have a vegetarian person in our large group, and he was also happy with his meal. Recommend…!

This is our first meal in Sabah and Suang Tain is an instant favorite. Inside a somehow rundown building, it serves fresh seafood with own choice of cooking method. No idea? The staff is happy to share the most popular options among locals and tourists. Fish, geoduck and blood clam are our picks. Price is very modest. It gets very crowded during mealtime so come early.

I would rate this restaurant as average, i have had a lot of really good seafood, but this is definitely not one of them. Their coconut was really terrible and it was molding on the outer looked really bad. The only reason i was there because it was our first day and we were exploring and stumble upon this place. Will never visit this place again. Food was just average. nothing special. only special it was expensive.

Great seafood at very reasonable prices. Good choice and everything was lovely. It’s very busy and we had to queue, but it was worth the wait.

Great place for seafood and price was reasonable. Service was good although they were packed with customers. Made an effort to cook a vegetarian noodle dish without eggs and when they got it wrong(included eggs although we specifically mentioned no eggs) they promptly replaced another one for us. Seafood was really fresh that we went back for a 2nd time.

One of the many seafood restaurants around a big food court, and we haven´t tested the others, but said this is the best one - our experience was definitely positive, the place is so busy, the fish and the other sea creatures don´t spend too long time in the tanks before they transformed to delicious meals and we found the service excellent. First we hesitated how to choose, but a lady invited us (in English) to take a look to the tanks, answered the questions happily and recommended which creature is better prepared which way, and then you can pick what you want - technically into a plastic basket or at some bits she did it for us from the higher tanks. Big lobsters are expensive, compared to the overall food prices in Malaysia, so if you want to try them, prepare to pay a high bill (like in Europe) - but it can be a highlight of the holiday. The prices are clearly written on the tanks so it´s not a surprise, but keep in mind you have to buy the whole lobster which can be a good kilo (included shell), and it´s hardly anything left on it to eat. Tiger prawns have more to grab on :-), but there´re prawns in every size and price. And fish. And shells. And etc. They have an air conditioned VIP room, and supply of plastic gloves which are useful when you try to clean your sauce-covered stuff from their shells (especially for those who don´t practice this too often). We went for a soft-shell crab, clams, tiger prawns, and some side vegs (also on display which is helpful), and enjoyed everything. I believe they serve beer and canned soft drinks too, but we usually order Chinese tea because it´s more authentic :-) . I was full, no room for desert, so I can´t write about them...

We waited for more than an hour for all our food to be served. First came the tiger prawns, then the veg and one would think that the rest of the dishes would subsequently be served together. However, we waited for almost more than 30 mins after we feedback that the dishes were not served. It was disappointing. The positive point was that the seafood was fresh.
